    • +1

Yes, I have 24x4tb seagate drives in a raid, several are from external (Cheaper but same drive inside). Been running them for a few years now 24x7 with no issues.

And if you are from Tassie don't bother looking for one in store, I just got a confirmation that all Aus posts in Tasmania don't stock it at all :(.

"I have checked our stock system, but unfortunately there are no longer any postal outlets in Tasmania offering this product. I am very sorry for any disappoint or inconvenience this may cause you.

I hope that you enjoy the rest of your day. If there is anything else that we can do for you, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

If the item is OOS, will OW still price match?

      • Not sure, try it?

        • +1

I just tried with the receipt i got from Auspost, my local had 1 unit only.

They wouldn't, however my local Officeworks is a pain with price matching at the best of times.

          @jg86tsv:
Post office lady said she would try and have some stock transferred into the store for me… there is a few in the region around me. Apparently they have the ability to get them from other stores.

        • @jg86tsv: What's your local OW?

        • @jg86tsv:

Sweet… Post office lady succeeded ! Managed to get 7 units today :)

        • @jg86tsv:

If you don't require all 7, I'm happy to buy any off you and pay for postage, etc

If you do not want your hdd to fail under normal conditions buy a ssd?

    • Define normal conditions?

SSD could fail without warning, they just die.
HDD could show signs of failure before they die, so you have a chance to backup your data.

SSD is more reliable than HDD, but it can be expensive.
For storage, you're better off with 1 HDD + 1 HDD for redundancy.

Use a SSD as a system drive, unless you have truck loads of money to spend on 4 x 1TB SSD for $450+ each.

      • This is true but people are whinging about HDD breaking. you should really have no problem with SSD now days and if you compare prices to what we use to pay for normal HDD you can justify decking a system out with SSD. plus you get the benefits of the higher speed. the less power consumption and less heat… its not to long ago when 1tb external HDD where about $400 each!

        • +1

That's why you always have redundancies.

Always.. I mean ALWAYS backup your data.
It does not matter whether you have a SSD or HDD.
Backup your data periodically and back them up onto an external drive.
If you back up your data onto an internal drive in the same system.
There's a chance that a surge would fry every component connected to the same PSU.

Even a SSD will die after so many read/write cycles.
I also read that temperature is the number one killer for SSDs.
So it helps when you have a properly ventilated case.
