      "FREE"

    • +1

lol. Is it a leaflet of pictures of stamps?

My guess is most will toss it thinking it is spam/junk mail.

The others will remember they signed up for it… then toss it in 12 months when they realise they never had a use for it - nor even collect stamps. lol

  • Is this a stamp or just some sort of guide?

    • +3

this is a free stamp sent within a newsletter from Aus Post

  • +11

    Didn't need it.
    Ordered it anyway :)

      True OzBargain Spirit

  • And a damn fine new website, too!

What is a mini sheet? And how is it collectible?

    • +11

A stamp, including the perforated border from the printing run. Some collectors want a full sheets of stamps intact. A mini sheet plays on this sentiment for special issues.
This isn't very collectable in the value sense, as there will no doubt be many given away, however, they appear to be limiting it to individuals. If this issue isn't also separately available for purchase there will be collectors seeking it, and prepared to pay for it. Many collectors make a point of collecting every stamp issued in Australia, for example.

  • I don't see a sign up on mobile?

    • Try the very bottom, their CSS is way more terrible than their stamps.

      • Yep near the bottom. And of course the sign up form appears right at the top of the page after you've tapped it.

Soon the cost will increase by 30% and will only work every second day.

If you want to understand what great innovative ideas Australian government will come up with under ANY party, you only need look to the UK as we almost always follow what they do… UK Royal Mail completely privatised last year.

So please don't be surprised when the government announces privatisation of Australia Post.
Shareholders are not interested in a quality daily service that is cheap to use.

Wonder if PO boxes will be next in line for a big price hike. Got a bit of a surprise when recently learned how much PO boxes cost in the UK - over AU$500/year.

Making sure I'm ready to dump mine just in case. Currently $115/year here for a standard small box, which is on the back of much higher than CPI increases over the past ten years (when I renewed my box in 2008, it was $70).

        • +1

$126 up from $120 last year. Then minus whatever pay on time discount they might apply.

  • +1

thanks. didn't need one but got one anyways

So it's a free stamp…. Can I use it to send mail?

    • +3

What's this mail you speak of?

      • +3

        Look down, Tom…

      • +11

Did… did you just reply to your own comment?

    • Is a stamp or not a stamp that is the question

      • Good question I'm not so sure. Should be one or the other.

    • +1

It can (should be able to) be used for postage. From the Australia Post website:

      https://shop.auspost.com.au/stamp-coin-collectables/for-coll…

"Can imperforate stamps be used for postage?

Yes, so long as they are posted in their original format. If they are included in a minisheet they are valid for postage, so long as the minisheet is intact. The perforations are one of several security features included in a stamp. Imperforate stamps cannot be cut out and placed on mail for postage, as it makes it difficult to detect postal fraud."

I can use this in my drink machine at work. It takes a buck

The king of hobbies and the hobby of kings! When I was a kid, it was still was enough of a thing that a movie based on stamp collecting was made (Tommy Tricker and the Stamp Traveller).

Still have my childhood albums stashed away in a storage container.

  • Woohoo, I can add it to my much neglected stamp collection.

  • Thanks OP!

  • Thanks Op

I must be a true OzBargainer now. I don't even collect stamps!

Thanks to easy online ordering I do collect junk now though and my hobby is procrastinating over getting rid of aforementioned junk.

  • This will become a collectors' item in future years, likely to worth much for than $1.

    • Yes when a $1 is worth 10c in today's value! The more people that have it the less they are worth.

At least with delivering these it gives the posties some more mail to deliver ;-)

I signed up for it, but i bet i get nothing.Last two "free" promos like this i received nothing!!

  • Received mine in the mail today. Not really what I expected.

    • Same. Dissapoint!

  • SAME. wtf is it? A piece of paper with a $1 stamp printed on it?!

  • To those who got it, please appease our curiosity and post pictures.

    • http://i.imgur.com/HnGIUvF.jpg there you go. It is a freakin piece of paper! Lol. I threw it in the bin.

      • +1

I'm sorry for those who had to wait 4 months for a piece of paper but I find that rather amusing!

  • Surely they jest. Do we have to trade it in in-store like a coupon to get the real thing?

  • +3

To those complaining - it's an imperforate minisheet, it's exactly what it says on the tin. They are designed for collectors but you can stick it on and use it for $1 worth of postage.

  • +1

I received mine too and pretty disappointed… I wish it was that butterfly one in the pamphlet it came with. How can we even use this? Do we need to cut the stamp out or use it as is?

  • +1

received mine too, is this a valid stamp?

I googled imaged 'imperforate', to check what I got was advertised. Don't do this.

    • and if you do, certainly don't look at the image results

  • Got mine on Friday. I thought that they had forgotten to send me the mini sheet. At least I have a stamp for the letter of complaint I intend on writing to Australia Post :)

  • Hmm, I must say it was less than what I was expecting but at least it can legally be used for a stamp - not that I'm planning to. It didn't have that heavier postage stamp weight.
