Nice to see an Op actually do the maths. Thanks Op good find. But I might go Telstra as their coverage is better in far SE Vic

    • +3

Wouldn't it be nice if Telstra price match Optus?

      • +21

It'd be even nicer if Optus matched them for coverage.

        • Why would people constantly requiring company without different strategies to do the same, if they have the same coverage, their capitals spend will simply require the same level of price Telstra charging us.

  • +32

Why would anyone want to buy this massive paperweight? It is so pointless.

    • +1

      I agree why?

Unless you need something big to showcase your graphic work…

      • +21

Surface Pro is way better for that sort of work. The full Photoshop version is better than any trimmed down iOS version.

If you want an apple product, just buy the new macbook line when it comes out in march/april.

        • I agree, I want Surface Pro more… except that it doesn't have 4G and long battery life, it's still Windows.
I'm glued to Windows more… I still don't know how to maximise window in my Mac…

I think iPad Pro will be like when iPad first come to town, all negative, but then the apps start coming in, the cool games, etc. And now everyone wants one, Android makes one, etc.

So in other words, if you are OzBargainer, don't buy, until it is proven.

          @fm:

That's why you should have your phone with you and use it as a hotspot.

        • +1

@cDNA: Anyway this still is a very good deal for someone who wants it.

About the hotspots, it doesnt really work for me, it kills the battery on the phone and then I forgot to switch it off or on… I would pay a bit more to have 4G ready.

        • +2

@cDNA: i think Surface Pro is more comparable to the new Macbook

        • +1

@fm: You can charge phone via MicroUSB…

        • @Gaggy: I tried, but it won't charge? Now I got this tail on my phone, not sure what to do with…

        • +1

          @cDNA:

Hotspot? Lol. We are dealing with apple fans here.

        • @fm: I'm tempted to buy a Surface 3 and get it shipped on from the US at the moment, 128GB model with LTE is $550US ($800AU). The x7 isn't much slower than the Surface Pro 3 (Microsoft claim 80% of the power) with better battery life than the Pro.

many professional graphic artists who have used the iPad Pro say its close enough to the accuracy of the super expensive pro wacom tablets that they can switch to it for the majority of their tasks.

plus many of the major graphic design developers like Adobe have created specialized custom apps for the iPad Pro.

for for some people it makes complete sense, especially since an iPad Pro is much cheaper than the pro wacoms (around $2500 for the top model wacom)

      • +2

I suppose that makes in a business setting where you'll probably have access to desktops and laptops. I still have my objections, though. I still think having Adobe's creative suite on the SP4 is good enough reason to go for the SP4.

THis article is pretty good if you're interested in a fair comparison between the two devices. There are a few errors they have corrected in the comments below.

Also there's those in an environment where iOS is already a part of the workflow, due to apps or whatever being what's supported. This gives those users: a) a larger display or b) a much better option for stylus input compared to the other iPad models they may otherwise have to use.

It could be that the choice for some people will be between an iPad Mini, iPad Air or this and other platforms won't even be a supported option.

Personally, I'm happy with the size of the Air but I wouldn't mind having support for the Apple Pencil with it. From what I've heard it works better on the Pro than many of the alternative active stylus do.

        • I agree with your point, the Air is a nice size but wish they made the Pencil for all iPads. Still prefer the iPad drawing exp. then on a Surface Pro 3 but the SP3 has its pros in other areas:)

      • That "super expensive" Wacom starts at ~1900 and can do all of their tasks…

      • Having used both the iPad Pro and the Cintiq 13HD, I found that the iPad Pro blows it out of the water. The 13HD is cheaper though, at ~$1200. Combined with Astropad, the iPad Pro is an excellent drawing tablet with the benefit of operating independently when you want it.

Surface Pro 4 (Book if you can afford it) is superior Hybrid. iPad has just a tablet OS.

For real OzBargainers: Galaxy Note 4 ~$529 + Voda red sim $45 →$1609 over 24 monhts *this is also your phone that you can carry everywhere,
& you get all in one superior phone, superior screen/resolution (can read in bed), superior stylus included, 32GB +128 extendible memory (offline storage to save time & $s), 12GB/mth fast 4G (~35 86/40 up/down), replaceable/spare battery option, usb/wifi connections for monitor/kbd, many health sensors & many features the Apple locked garden can only dream about.

        • where to get the note 4 for $529?

        • @netbies: That was my quick search, maybe was refurbished (~$462 refurbished from DHgate free shipping)
Now $596 @getprice.com.au. Look for deals & be careful with the source/LTE coverage.
I pay (minus) -$11/mth on Voda $70+10phone last year (loyalty discount). Total $1587 after 23mth upgrade (used to be 21). Great phablet + S Health sensors.

have to agree with you there, i have the iPad mini 3 and its a good product but i paid $350 for it (cellular version) and still think its not worth what i paid (on clearance mind you) .. cant imagine forking out thousands for a bigger version of the same thing… doesn't make sense to me, must be a very niche market.

    • +1

yeah because they have too much money don't know where to spend

    • +3

Do you really just look for Apple threads so you can complain about Apple?

    • +4

This is called 'Pro' for a reason - not for browsing on the web or playing games. Just because you don't need it doesn't mean there aren't people who can make use of it. Please respect the others.

    • +2

Really? That comment is so old, people said that about the original iPad and they sold millions and restarted a very tired industry in tablets. Samsung just released an even bigger tablet. I can use our Pro with Windows at work and do everything a laptop can do and not even using Windows I can run Office 365 on it and use all the Office suite just like a laptop. Office 2016 is built for touch interfaces as well. Tablets, even large ones are here to stay and they with the App development it will become even better.

  • +1

    That's a really awesome deal!

  • -4

OP - this is Wifi and Cellular. Would the WiFi be locked or could you use it on your home network as well? Do not want to be paying $10 for each extra GB on cellular.

    • +6

Of course you can use it with your wifi at home

    • +2

Wifi wont be blocked, dont worry.

  • would this device be locked to Optus?

    • +2

I believe there is no concept of locking your phone with Optus or any cellular provider in AU. As long as you pay the monthly bill to optus for the next 12 or 24 months, you are free to use your phone/tablet in any network. But why would you?

      • -2

I have 1000Gb to use on my home network at home courtesy of iiNet hence the question

        • Just remember to turn 4g off when u have wifi available

        • +1

          @RogueWolf: thank you

        • @RogueWolf:

Ios will generally default to wifi first if its available before using cellular.

        • +1

@Copie: I know but if the signals weak next sec its using 4g, with only 4gb data better safe then sorry I guess

        • Some devices (Galaxy Note) can combine both - 'Download booster'

  • +4

Looking forward to Samsung Galaxy TabPro S. Will be a worthy competitor to Surface Pro 4.

    • +3

Is that really the name of it?

      • +4

It is, Samsung aren't really that creative with names.

      • -1

        It is Galaxy PadPro

        • +2

          It is Galaxy PadPro

I'm almost sure that's something on the menu at my local Thai restaurant!

    • -1

Me too! If there was a similar deal with the cellular TabPro S, and with Telstra instead of Opt-useless, I would actually queue up like one of those Apple fanboys.

  • +1

what's the diff between iPad n this iPad pro apart from the obvious bigger size?

    • The lollipop stick.

    • +1

One has pro while the other without pro :p

    • It's bigger/faster, you can get the pencil and a keyboard if thats your thing. For me its a bigger/faster iPad with stereo speaker, and i got the 128gb 4G for $1100 so not bad.

      • How did you get it for 1100

      • How did you manage to buy it at such a cheap price mate?

        • -1

          Got it on eBay.

    • And it has 4 speakers..

  • +3

I'm still waiting for Mini iPad Pro Air with Retina Display to come out

  • Telstra sell these outright for $1608, or if you have a data share phone plan you can do MRO payments at $67 a month and they will give you another sim to use/share. Best option going.

  • +1

if you stick the letters "stitute" on the end of one it doesn't mean anything, if you stick it on the end of the other it does

    • Very astute of you

    • you mean like 6S? am waiting for iPhone 7 tbh

  • +6

Guess it's still school holidays, damn keyboard warriors

    • +1

Haha, people never grow out of associating brands with their self worth.

I'm pretty sure most of the oness screaming about Apple v Android, Nikon v Canon etc are fat old dudes.

      • You're probably thinking Ford vs Holden. Meanwhile most are buying Mazdas and Toyotas.

  • Anyone hear about Li-Fi on the rumour mill?
    Yes please thank you.

  • +2

    nice thanks op just ordered!

    • Got confirm of shipping out hope to get tomorrow or monday.. now to find a pencil for less than $165 !

      Even with Epp still $165

      • +1

    • i saw this deal on the 26th dec, didn't post it as it was marked "out of stock" up until now, going by your order looks like they were taking orders past month even though they didn't have stock, as now it says "buy now" rather then "out of stock" I assume orders will go out quicker

I really feel that comments for all APPLE products in ozb tend to be bashed and trashed instead of complimenting and just stick to the sale/promo being offered. I don't think is necessary to have another forum of Android v Windows v iOS.

    • Shrugs - haters gonna hate.

      • Hate elsewhere forums, not in ozb promo/sales section.

  • Hey guys I just use my iPad to watch netflix/hulu and web browse. Would it be a waste of money upgrading to this? I love the bigger screen though.

    • If you don't mind using both hands to hold it instead of one, and like to turn the sound up LOUD, then the iPad Pro is an amazing Netflix viewing device!
