    • Is this why ppl complain so much about all these low end devices not coming with 1gbps? Because they mix up their bits and bytes?

  • All I need to know is, does the Netflix app and youtube app play 4K streams?
My 4K smart tv runs android and I can't side load the Netflix apk, nor am I sure of the streaming quality from the stock YouTube app. I can't load newer versions of YouTube either as the tv can't handle the higher api levels

    • No unfortunately. For Netflix to be HD/4K it needs to be approved and very few boxes are.

  • OP: Does the spdif out support optical cable such as this http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/wp-content/uploads/hs_spdif_1… ? I only have optical in on my amp but need this setup for a Projector.

    • It has a spdif port according to the specs and images.

      http://image3.geekbuying.com/content_pic/201601/f.jpg

      • does it output proper 5.1 channels for h264/265 using optical out?

        • Tronsmart MXIII does, do likely this would too.

      • Yes, but there's coaxial spdif and optical (my amp only has optical in) so the cable I referenced would have optical light coming through it, if anyone has a similar box maybe they would know also.

  • how well would this do playing 720p/1080p video from an online source over WiFi based on the specs? (assuming the WiFi is fast)

    • +1

Should be fine - I've very rarely had issues with 720p/1080p streams as long as the wifi is solid.

  • I have the older mxq s805 version and it plays hd video just fine. Playback quality and speed can also depend on the source and server you're streaming it from in kodi.

The WiFi on these are surprisingly good. Mine is only 10mtrs away from the modem an the WiFi speeds are as good when I had it running through an Ethernet cable.

For anyone getting one of these, invest in a air mouse remote. I got one with a keyboard on the remote and it makes it so much easier to work with.

    • -1

u mean using your phone or tablet?

      • U just comment padding? He said "mxq". It's the older model

    • Definitely recommend an airmouse - I'd check out the ones from Rikomagic or MeLE. I've got both and they're solid and much improved from the early days.

  • Was tempted but I have a Sony BD Player that plays DNLA and even identifies itself as a Android cast device, not the fastest or most elegant but it works well. I also have a Chromecast which I rarely use.

    • +1

Sounds like you got it covered. Chromecast Audio is a good addition if you want more than one room audio

  • bought! first android box, will see how it goes. Can't put NUCs in every room or ill be broke!

  • How is this for Kodi use? Is it snappy?

  • Is the supplied remote suitable for playing any Android games? If not, how much would I need to spend to keep the 2 young kids happy playing games? Thanks.

    • +1

This box isn't really suitable for playing games. Intensive 3D games from Gameloft and others would not run very well.

  • I wonder if this box would let me connect to my Western Digital My Book Live 8TB ? I want to be able to view action cam footage shot at 1080p at 60FPS via WiFi. (My iPad Air 2 can play them back easily)

Don't forget to apply code VNWJBBZC for a 5% discount sitewide.

    • Coupon code cannot be used - it has been used before. it says "Sorry, the coupon code cannot be used over 1 times."

      • That specific coupon can only be used by new members once.

  • ordered 24/01, still waiting for it to ship!

    • Presale ended on the 27th so a shipping confirmation should be serving soon. I'll see where they're at.

  • Looks like this is the normal price? It's still selling for USD$29.99

    • The price has been extended to beat other sites that are selling it for $42.99.

  • Not sure about the build quality of these… I bought one which arrived today, set it up ok, ran some basic tests, and started watching a movie. After about 20 minutes the unit turned itself off and is now refusing to turn back on.

On the plus side, for the short time it worked it did work really well. I was quite impressed with it other than the remote not coming with batteries. System performance was very good, no lag to speak of at all. Streaming 1080p off my NAS worked fine. Setup was a beeze, although most software on it needed updates. Oddly the Kodi loading screen says its version 15.2, but the Kodi main screen said its version 16.

The remote is basic, but gets the job done. Even has the ability to be programed to control TV basic functions too (power, volume etc) although I never made it that far.

Hopefully their after sale service is better than their build quality lol

    • Usually the power off issue can be the US to AU adapter. Might be worth trying a different power point or holding the adapter in place and turning it on to help diagnose.

      • I tried unplugging and replugging a few times into different sockets because it's definitely a "loose fit" between the US power supply and the AU adapter. I'll have a look around at home tomorrow and see if I have any other power supplies that might fit it, pretty sure it's a pretty standard 5v power supply. I know I've got some other US/AU adapters laying around somewhere which might work better as the one which came in the box was a bit bent to begin with.

I got an email back from customer service saying they're closed until 14/02/16 for Chinese New Years so I've got plenty of time to try a few options.

  • have got the delivery of the box, works decent so far but facing occasional reboots in the middle of watching local media via the video player / kodi. Also the YouTube app is not responding to remote functions.Any inputs? wondering if it has the ability to connect Bluetooth headsets? in settings could not find the options for the same?

  • So does this android box support 4K resolution if it was to be plugged into a 4K TV? And does that mean it can stream 4K videos like in YouTube and Netflix?

  • When I go into standby with remote it won't power on again unless I remove & insert power plug. Other than that… not bad I guess.

  • I bought one of these all seems to be OK except Kodi will occasionally crash out while watching video. Does anyone know if this box can run Kodi Openelec firmware? I thought that may help with stability. I've been trying to but no success so far.

Would really love to get this stable because it is otherwise seems very good. Playing HEVC 1080p is very smooth, something which my Intel NUC (Celeron) can't do!

As for the remote - I use the official Kore Remote android app on my phone.

Well the reboots in the middle of a video file are a pretty major problem, lol

  • @Clear I purchased this on February 1 but haven't received yet. Sent an enquiry to Customer Service but no response. Can you advise?

    • If you chose free shipping then it's not unusual for it to take 3 weeks to arrive from China. If it's been shipped there should be a tracking number.

      • hi thanks for getting back

Does't look like it's been shipped yet as I can't see a tracking number anywhere on the Order Detail page. Order status is "Payment Confirmed (Processing)". So when it actually is shipped does that mean it will be another 3 weeks wait?

        • Hasn't been shipped then and typically takes 2-3 weeks. February is always a bad month because of the Chinese New Year as most companies including the postal service are closed for 1-2 weeks.

    • received mine today, it takes time with delays. expect 4 weeks for normal delivery, 5-6 weeks with delays. and 3 weeks if you're lucky. most overseas websites are like this. but as Clear said with CNY, add on an extra 1-2 weeks.

  • Can anyone check if hi10p anime videos work properly on these boxes - apparently the RK3229 supports the format. There are a few sample clips out (around 100MB for 1080p 5.1 FLAC) to push the box to the limit.

  • I just got mine, DOA, the power adapter was faulty, used one I had laying around, works great very responsive, the remote is solid state, no crashes so far. One thing is it won't connect to my receiver via HDMI, not sure why so I just connected it to the TV

  • Hi, I ordered on 03/02, still haven't received mine.. it says payment confirmed (processing) on Order Status, initial order email indicated that there would be an email once order has shipped and I haven't received that email, so I guess they haven't shipped it?

    • Order number? I'll find out.

  • Clear: PM'ed you. Cheers.

  • Ordered mine in early February as well. Still not shipped despite several emails promising it will be shipped immediately! Product 'shipping time' stated 2 - 7 days. Why advertise here if you can't ship on time? You will just end up like Gearbest and Banggood. Have opened dispute with Paypal.

    • The processing time is actually stated as 2-7 days. Free shipping is stated as 15-30 business days.

Did you send me your order number before? Or did you just contact GB directly?

      • Again, this is what is stated on the product page and is unchanged as of today: Shipping: Free Shipping. Normally ships in 2 - 7 days. I did PM you my order No. and contacted GB directly three times. No reply from you. Got reply from GB that it will be shipped immediately. That was two weeks ago.

        • Normally ships in 2 - 7 days

That means it will normally be shipped out between 2 and 7 days. In this case the product was on presale until the 27th of January which I've had in the post the whole time.

I've just seen your PM and I missed it. I constantly get notifications and sometimes I miss some. A second message confirming that I received the first would have helped. If your Paypal dispute has been escalated to a claim then there is nothing any of us can do until Paypal finish their investigation.

        • @Clear:

A second message confirming that I received the first would have helped.
          Seriously!!!
Still no explanation as to why it hasn't been shipped as yet!

        • @princo60: I can only transfer messages through marketing to customer service and they will email you directly. I'm tagged as 3rd Party Marketing on Ozb to emphasize that I'm not a direct employee.

  • Just received notice that mine has been shipped today. Ordered on 03/02. So I guess it'll be another 3-4 wks before I get it. First emailed them last week, was told product was in stock and they were "testing" it before shipping out, they gave me another email address to contact them to follow up, and just received confirmation/tracking that it has been shipped. Wonder what would have happened had I not raised the issue here and followed it up myself, I think it would still be sitting on the shelves! Honestly, stay away from this site! They are happy to take your $ but not ship the product until the customer has to chase it! God forbid if the unit arrives defective and have to chase warranty!

  • New firmware was released this month to fix some of the issues people are having. More firmware is expected to come out later on.

You can download the firmware here and there is more information on the firmware including instructions here

Have been using mine for a few weeks. Mainly just using Kodi 15.2

Yesterday though Kodi kept crashing and not boot.

Was about to uninstall and reinstall but tried clearing the Cache via apps manager section of the Android setting menu and voila Kodi worked fine again.

    Hope that helps someone.

PS Can't get Kodi to send Dolby 5.1 through to my receiver but the other video app can do so via HDMI and also via Co-Axial. Does any one know if upgrading Kodi would help?

    • Thanks, good tip - did the same and worked
