      • on a different note, if you guys could one day redefine the categories for easier browsing it would be great. I often have trouble (quickly) finding the category or a specification i'm looking for

        • +2

yes, if you have feedbacks/suggestions/examples, please PM me :)

        • @ShoppingExpress:

Well having a desktop filter main tab would be great. Or just copy pccasegear. They have a nice easy to use site.

Cool…. Nothing to see here :)

  • Still deciding if I should grab one of the 500s for an external SSD.

  • Any nbn routers on special?

    • +2

Any Router with 100 Mbps Port will do just fine… And that is with the maximum 100Mbps bandwidth lol

      • Thats not true, a lot of cheaper routers aren't very good at routing 100Mbps speeds.

        • Much Higher chance of your ISP having Network Congestion issues you won't really be continuously routing 100Mbps…

  • Just pulled the trigger on the 64gb Evo, cheers!

Sandisk SDD 240GB picture in deal is an Ultra II, but on website it is a Plus. Which is it?

I was about to order and noticed the discrepancy.

    • +1

it's a plus, not ultra, photo will be updated very shortly.
      thanks for pointing out.

      cheers
      SE

    • Nvm rep beat me hi.

    • Ultra worth the extra ?

      • nvm sold out

  • +3

The Samsung 500GB SSD Evo for $218 was $199 on Friday (limited stock with Free Express shipping) so that's the new benchmark.

    • +2

True but they had jack shit stock.

  • Are sandisks reliable?

    • +1

Going to run it as my main drive

      • +2

Yep I have installed quite a few and no failures so far

        • Cheers. Another question, updating an old system.

Currently has 4x1gb ram. Is it fine to run a single 8gm stick. Or is there better performance running 2x4gb

        • I installed one of the ultras when it was first introduced. died within 30 days. was set up as system drive.

      • Speaking of this, I have a HP n410 bought from one of the SE sales a few years ago. I just have a magnetic disk installed as primary volume (256gig I think).

How would this SSD go as a replacement? Mostly looking to make bootup and general browsing/kodi faster.

        • +2

an SSD will SIGNIFICANTLY improve loading times for the OS/Apps, feels like a new computer..

    • +1

They're the biggest and most recognised manufacturer of solid state storage in the world.

    • I had an Extreme SSD fail just after warranty expired. Anecdotal evidence of course.

  • +1

Anyone know what type of external hard drive I should be looking for if I want to have it connected to our ADSL wireless router in a small office so that automatic backups can occur on our work computers wirelessly, just in case of computer failure.

Not sure if I should be looking at a NAS or a WD My Cloud harddrive.

    Budget: <$800

    • +1

Just sign up for BackBlaze or CrashPlan

      • on adsl with under 1mbit upload this basically doesn't work with large amounts of data

Great if you are on the NBN, which do you prefer out of backblaze or crashplan?

        • BackBlaze took 2 weeks to upload my initial set of files over 1mbps ADSL. Once it's done the bandwidth usage is minimal (for my use case, at least)

Forgot to mention. Dropbox for team is another good option. All files previous versions are backed up for 30 days.

        • +1

          @whirlpool_guy:

I set up crashplan when I had adsl and it estimated 9 months to upload everything, now I'm on the nbn it's much faster!

  • Guess that explains why I got free postage on what I bought last night. Neat.

Now then, would it be overkill to get a second 8GB of RAM…

  • 16GB of DDR3 1600 for $100 delivered. Wow that's cheap!

  • $58 Deathadder Chroma is temping

  • Any specials on HP Gen8 Server RAM?

    • +38

Yes, you are the only one.

    • +4

Oh wow… You went there and think you found something racist where it didn't exist. Well done.

      • -1

Never fear @sund00bie our Social Justice Warrior is here!

"Cracker" is intended as an offensive name given to White Americans making reference to slaving where Whites would crack whips (being whip "crackers") to drive their slaves. It is intended to trigger white guilt.

Has no bearing on Australians. You're probably just hyper sensitive and need a hug.

      • aahhh, that's cracker. there is a reference to it in 30 rock - about liz Lemons former black panther kindergarten teacher singing song referencing cracker to her class

      • +1

Dear JV, someone needs a hug…

  • those intel-nuc-nuc5i5ryh-i5-5250u-mini-pc-kit-ssd/BOXNUC5i5RYH
i will need M2 type of SSD harddisk, correct? or i can use the normal SSD now sitting inside my laptop (Transcend SSD370 256GB SATA3 6Gb/s 2.5" SSD TS256GSSD370)

    • you can use M.2 or SATA SSD as this model can support M.2 + SATA (Hard drive or SSD) at the same time.

      • ah.. thanks. flexibility to swap ssd is good. Rep, any RAM for NUC on special?
        Crucial 8GB 2133MHz DDR4 CL15 Memory CT8G4DFD8213
        SKU: CT8G4DFD8213 $57.00
is that good for intel NUC?

edit nope i think i have to use SODIMM type, but no special price?

        • +2

that will not fit the nuc,

          you need this

have revised the price down for ozbargain.

Got a Samsung 500gb SSD for a desktop upgrade, thanks!

Tempted to grab another for when I get a new laptop, sad I missed the Lenovo e460 recently…

  • Using a couple of these sale items, what do you think about this i3 NUC as a basic desktop replacement for $510.00?
Intel NUC NUC5I3RYH i3-5010 Mini PC Kit: $350.00
    Kingston 8GB DDR3 1600MHz SODIMM: $65.00
    Sandisk SSD Plus 240GB: $95.00
    Total: $510.00

    • +2

looking at NUC too but i think im going up for i5. and maybe get DDR4 instead ($10 more).

      • +1

Yeah I'd much prefer the i5 as well, but I'm on a tight budget trying to replace the in-laws 6yo desktop with something small. Nice price for the DDR4 ram, but I think the NUC I picked only supports up to DDR3?

        • seems you are right, NUC only support DDR3. anyway not much increase in performance with DDR4 from what google says.
just want some future proof thats why i go with i5 as this will replace main desktop (but not for gaming) instead of just kodi media system.

        • +2

          @eisniwre:

5th gen nuc's are DDR3, if you want to use DDR4 then you need to buy 6th Gen.

  • Damn - I just bought a Sandisk Ultra II 500Gb SSD from Shopping Express like 2 days ago … :(

  • Thanks tightarse Good deal on ssd but i end up getting the Samsung 850 Pro MZ-7KE512BW Since msy here in perth dont have them in stock an its free Shipping for the same price Hell YEAH!

  • ShoppingExpress, any chance of increasing Crucial DDR3 RAM to 2 modules as the max order? I need 2 or already out of stock? Thanks

    • +2

not much left but have increased the qty to 2

  • Hey rep would you know if the WD USB Desktop drive would work with 110 voltage? I do travel overseas and will need to plug it in so want to make sure it works. I have smaller size USB only drives but was looking for a larger one so would appreciate it if you can let me know. Thanks.

    • For travelling you'd probably be better off with 2.5".

  • +2

The Prices look good but the "was" prices are so not true lol…

  • +1

just bought a 5th gen i3 nuc to replace a celeron one and was able to select courier for the free shipping method instead of the default aus post option:

Qty x SKU Product Price Subtotal
    1x BOXNUC5I3RYH Intel NUC NUC5I3RYH i3-5010 Mini PC Kit $350.00 $350.00
    Delivery Method: Aus Post, Couriers + Insurance Cover $24.95( Discount - -$24.95 ) $0.00

    • Is there any real difference between a 4th Gen i3 Nuc and 5th Gen i3 NUC processor?

Any real difference between an desktop i3 and nuc i3 in general?

  • You can also upgrade the shipping to "+ Insurance" and it still calculates free shipping!! Good just in case…

  • is the msi gtx960 4gb a good price?

    • It's only $1 cheaper than the standard price at Umart. Alternatively, you can get the GEFORCE GTX 960 4GD5T OC (not sure the difference) for about $30 less.

  • any deals on UHS-3 cards? need one for my new gopro I bought from the Bing Lee deal :)

  • +1

Can the 4TB WD be converted into a internal hard drive?

  • +1

How about some Intel NUC Skylake i5 deal?

    • I'm actually waiting for the new Skull Canyon NUCs to come out.

"The key specs for Skull Canyon are the inclusion of a quad-core Skylake processor and the built-in Thunderbolt 3 port. The new CPU offers support for speedy DDR4 RAM and features improved Iris Pro integrated graphics. However, they will only suffice for the most casual of gamer, and that's where the Thunderbolt 3 port comes in.

In the past, attempts to attach graphics cards via an external adapter have not proven to be popular, in part because interfaces haven't offered the bandwidth necessary to harness the power of the top desktop cards. But Thunderbolt 3 offers up to 40Gbps of data throughput (in comparison, USB 3.0 provides up to 5Gbps), which is leading to a renewed push to make external graphics support a viable option."

Price would most likely be very high.

  • Rep, Deathadder chroma no longer has the discounted price, is it still available?

  • How about some deals on Logitech products? I am looking to purchase the MX800 keyboard and mouse combo. Also the Z906 certified surround sound speakers.

  • Does anyone know if this is the right memory to upgrade this ?

  • Would buy the Crucial RAM if I could afford it.
    Great RAM.
