The 4TB Backup-Plus has dropped to the same price as the (now backordered) 4TB Expansion Portable, www.ozbargain.com.au/node/231022

Thanks to Maverick, the difference is explained below:-

The Seagate Backup Plus Portable is their premium portable drive that includes backup software, onedrive 200GB storage bonus and other software along with a slimmer enclosure and generally better performance, RRP US$240.

The Seagate Expansion Portable is their entry level portable drive with no bundled software, RRP US$170.

I'm pretty sure from very recent Amazon reviews that Seagate are still using the SATA connected Samsung 4TB, albeit 14mm so no good for most laptops/PS4 (internally).

Price: US $119.99 + $6.19 Shipping = ~ AU $182 using MasterCard exchange rates (Amazon rates slightly higher).

Not the newer single drive though which is model STEA4000400 , still 4tb :D

    • -2

This is two drives withing one case, portable form factor?

      • -2

That is correct! It's Still 4TB and way cheaper than going down to the local JB Hi Price.

        • /Mind blown!

          @Utopian: 4TB is 4TB!

        • +7

This is the single drive version, the "Backup Plus Fast" (STDA4000100) is the two drive version.

I bought this exact model (STDR4000100) in December so can confirm it contains a single Samsung SATA 14mm.

What newer single drive? This is a SINGLE drive and it's the newest 4TB Backup Plus. The 4TB Expansion Portable single drive one is a lower performing model. Sheesh why does this happen on every single 4TB portable drive thread with people comparing it to the desktop drive and claiming it has two drives inside which is utter rubbish.

      • +2

Actually there is a double drive portable version called the plus fast 4tb as linked by hypie above. It's 2x 2tb 2.5" drives in raid 0 for a total of 4tb storage. It is portable and runs off usb 3 only. Please note this is NOT the version linked by the OP which is a single 4tb 2.5" drive which will be slower than the plus fast, but will be less prone to data loss.

In this case it is not "utter rubbish".

In this case it is not "utter rubbish".

Yes it is. I'm well aware of the double drive (see my posts in other deals) but this deal is not the double drive and all these posts do nothing but confuse people.

        • @Maverick-au:

Hey Mav you are both arguing the same point :) When he says "In this case" he was referring to my OP not the dual drive, at least thats how I read it.

Great price for a 4TB portable

  • Thanks ordered 2 :)

      broden alert

  • Yep very good price

  • Sorry for the noob questions, how do Seagate hard drives fare against the WD Hard drives, such as the one offered yesterday (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/231790)?
Is the main difference the WD needing its own power cord?

    • +5

That harddrive is a "Desktop" harddrive. It requires AC power, it is far larger as well.

  • +1

Great price but shyyyyttttttt why does it have to be now
Give me reasons not to buy this in addition to the stacks of 2TB portable I just bought under $100 each a few weeks ago :(

So stupid that the PS4 doesn't support external drives.

    • Really? That's disappointing.

    • Get an extension cable. Had my ps3 connected to one for years.

  • So if this is not the RAID0 drive, how is it different to this drive?

    • It's pretty much the same except for the look of the enclosure, but that one is on backorder.

      • Ta. Seagate (well, every IT manufacturer) need a better naming convention.

    • So if this is not the RAID0 drive, how is it different to this(amazon.com) drive?

Why? If you googled the drives you would find numerous sites telling you the difference and the Seagate website does as well.

  • It is sold by OW for $229, so you save $50

    http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/seagate-4tb…

    • yes but you lose the local warranty…

      • +2

I would almost prefer Amazon's warranty service. They usually pay for return postage, or sometimes they will even give you a refund without sending the original item. Last year they even refunded my whole order of two 256GB USB sticks when only one became faulty, they told me not to send the broken one and keep the working one as a good-will gesture.

  • Out of stock

  • how much usable memory you get in this?

    • how much usable memory you get in this?

You mean storage and you get the same as you get from any 4TB drive.

    • Windows will probably show it the correct way, in binary, approx 3.64TB.

      • ok thanks

  • The drive inside is supposedly a ST4000LM016, but I can't find any documentation on that model.

    • From what I read on Amazon Q&A it's 5 platters 800GB each.

  • -1

seeing as this is unavailable now, how does this compare to this model which is available for the same price?

    @ ASHGOON Look up

  • Should I just buy locally now or do you think Amazon with drop the price again soon?

    • It should drop back to at least US$129.99 when it comes back in stock, as it was that price before the special.

  • +1

this is in stock again. Just purchased one.

    Thanks

    • Says it can't ship to me :(

      • You have to make sure Amazon is the seller, if not look for the link that says "41 new" or "other sellers", and choose Amazon from the list.

  • +1

Grabbed one! Also grabbed a SanDisk Ultra Fit 128GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive (SDCZ43-128G-G46) for $35.59 USD and combined shipping!

  • Anybody know if I can replace my PS4s harddrive with this one?

    • No, it's too thick. PS4 will only take the thinner 2TB drives internally.

  • $134.99 now (10th Feb). I should have bought it when cheaper. Why does price always fluctuate?

    • It's back down to $119.99 USD for those who may be interested.
