  • any decent projectors ?

    Are there deals for a petrol-powered lawnmower in the $300-$500 price range? Thanks.

  • Betta had 60LF6300 for $1600 on eBay site and whilst doing the research on TV they jacked the price up to $1978!!! I took screen shots. Worth doing anything? It had good reviews for the 60"

      What are you going to do? Nothing because there is nothing you can do except suck it up and berate yourself for stuffing around instead of purchasing.

      • +3

        Or complain to company and then get the deal! Score!

    • +2

      Wait until sale is over and see if it goes back to $1600, if so they may have a case to answer, the ACCC just fined Kogan for this.

      • Artifical inflation ay, Ive noticed futus intel processors suspiciously high priced too.

  • +6

    I'm not knocking the deal, but ebay has drifted so far from the "level playing field for all sellers, regardless of their size" the founder envisaged the marketplace to be its ridiculous.

    I dream of the day someone starts a viable competitor that is Australian owned that is wildly successful….

    • +1

      We had one, remember the original auction site sold.com.au? It was much bigger than Ebay circa 2000, until it was bought by them and shut down, I'm very surprised Gumtree is still around and as cheap since being bought by Ebay too.

      • +2

        Ebay buying gumtree is a classic protective move.

        By controlling their only viable competition - they can plan for the future and continue on unimpeded.

        Sure gumtree steals some of ebays business - but now they control exactly HOW MUCH business they steal.

  • Thanks, picked up a 2x3m 4wd awning from Outbax, $135 delivered.

  • Picked up a TP-Link D7 modem/router finally. I've never tried one of these eBay deals before, do they charge you the full amount then refund the saving? Because although the invoice and eBay emails show the discounted price, Paypal just informed me I paid the FULL amount … uggh

    • +1
      • Fair enough .. still think it's weird that the Paypal app doesn't mention the discount though.

        • It used to show the discounted amount now it shows full amount. You can see the disounted amount in details page of paypal transaction.

    Just checked out a 6600k at Futu. Looked at the purchase history and can see a $60 increase coinciding with this promotion.

    • Yeah it seems that Futu/ShoppingExpress are taking most of the discount for themselves on a lot of products, the only products that haven't risen in price seem to be EOL or old models. I wonder if Ebay care as they are also ripping them off.

      • so they are stealing our money?

        • +3

          "Stealing" is a bit strong, we don't have to buy their price-inflated products.

          But the ACCC just fined Kogan for exactly this practice.

        • @CH:

          Too bad dicksmith got liquidated, else they are the worst and would get fined too.

          what I don't get is why jack up prices?

          Ebay is paying the discount not those stores.

        • @tyler.durden:
          I think ebay are allowing these stores to pocket the discount during these 'sales' as an inducement to get them selling on ebay in the first place.
          (instead of via their own online stores)

        • @damoo:

          how would they pocket the discount?

          ebay only pays the percentage discount, not extra to the store..

          I think it is more to do with profiteering since they know more ppl would jump on this sale cos of the discount, so they increase their price to earnt the same profit or a bit more..depending on the item..

          so for e.g. they charge
          $100

          now increase to $120.

          Ebay pays $20.
          They earn extra $20 + $100

          ==
          If they kept the price $100,
          Ebay pays $20,
          but the store still only made $100.

          So by increasing the price, they made an extra $20.
          And they take advantage of the increase in sales, cos ppl who thinks discount, so they buy..

        • @tyler.durden: Hmmm… I think you've just answered your question of 'how would they pocket the discount?'. If they jacked the prices up when these eBay sales are about to begin that means they're selling their products for more than their original prices, whereas the consumers aren't saving anything in the deals. I don't think eBay is knowingly letting them pull those tricks off though, or probably not interfering with how sellers should sell their products. In the end, the buyers should be aware and do their own homework.

          @AussieDaddy:

          I have contacted the ACCC about this so lets see if anything happens. Its just plain wrong and if kogan got caught so should others

        • @CH: I pulled up JB HiFi on this practice. They ended up giving the discount off their regular price and not the 'inflated to RRP' price during the sale.

        • @sprof: did you contact futu direct? Im looking at the 6600k too.

        • +1

          @Alpacino299:

          Yeah they told me the price listed is there best price so I told them about the kogan situation with no response as I thought

        • @sprof: no surprise, i picked up the 6600k just now with 10% off for $314 from another seller.

    • This happens every time (except for site wide coupons). Are you new to eBay coupon codes? The stores either increase prices or take listings off.

      • Yes, ppl who are regular ozbargainer would know this trick from all previous ebay discounts sales.

        IT is just very annoying and something needs to be done about this.

        Kogan got fined for something similiar but I don't know if it had anything to do with the ebay discount though.

        ==
        this has been done in store but some retailers

        but putting on RRP and then showing a slash with new price.

        The ebay scam is similiar just in a different way.

        ==

        The ebay prices either are the same before the discount or in some cases is even more expensive than the store sale price.

  • Any DSLR?

    A review: http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2015/05/lg-lf6300-led-tv-australia…

    I was almost buying some used model from Gumtree when I tried to use the discount code on eBay Betta store.

    Now I've to buy a home theatre or soundbar, and the magic remote control.

    ;)

  • Can someone please recommend me a good 24" monitor? I came across the Samsung S24C45KB at futu for $239 but I read on Amazon UK reviews that some complained about quality of resolution as well as the viewing angle.

    I'm looking for 1920x1080. The Samsung S24C45KB is 16:10 but I prefer 16:9 aspect ratio.

    Thanks.

    • Aspect ratio will depend on your main use. For movies, 16:9 is better. For general desktop work, 16:10 is better as you get more vertical real estate.

  • Futu?

    Sorry, you are not allowed to purchase this item

    This item is only available to buyers who have not purchased 1 or more items from this seller in the past 10 days.

  • I was wondering, I've made 2 separate purchases from FUTU during this promo, does that mean I've exhausted the maximum discount? I am not sure if the 'Two transactions per person' applies to purchases from stores/businesses or the whole deal.

    I've just tried to make a third purchase from a different store (before this expires midnight tonight) and the code has worked but I am afraid that eBay will charge me the full price or demand that I pay them back or something, if it goes through.

  • Thanks, finally bought a Sony HX60V camera for $263 - refurb with 12 months warranty. Cheapest online
