I think FutuOnline sell Australian stock too so if you're leaving the country within 60 days you can probably claim GST too.

Also - can anyone find the Surface Pro 4 m3 version in the sale? Can't find it. I'm after that one

    • whats M3?

      • The more basic version (processor is more basic).

Actually does anyone know if there is a difference between the M3 and i5 version in terms of battery life?

  • +2

I like my SP3 i5, only bought it mid last year though. Luckily went on an overseas holiday right after and got the GST refund. I only use it for basic stuff though - word processing, web browsing and watching videos. My only problem is that the outside scratches easily - definitely doesn't look mint condition like most of my other laptops did after that length of use.

    • +2

I know what you mean, my sp2 looks incredibly beaten up after 18 months despite me being a careful owner and storing in a case when moving around. In contrast my previous Macbook Air still looked brand new after 4 years of constant use.

      • Yep - I don't store mine in a case but usually leave it (keyboard side down) on the coffee table or ottoman etc. Its not a deal breaker or anything, but it definitely shows wear much faster than many other products.

        • shoulda wrapped it in Vynl

ive got a carbon fibre wrap on mine, looks sick

      • What kind of case you have?

I've had a Surface 3 for a year now and with flip case and a glass screen protector it still looks like new :)

  • How does the other Surface Pro 4's line up to this?

    • Awesome computer! Perfect for travel or aa a work laptop.
Only had mine for a few weeks with no scratches so far. I use a docking station and have it laid on the felt side down instead of the brushed aluminum side.

      GET IT!

      • Which docking station?

        • +1

The surface pro 4 edition. Its quite heavy for its size. Not a docking station as you would normally use aince it doesnt ait inside it rather its a port hub where all items connect to it and only the charge cabl to the laptop.

        • @BKZ: thanks!

  • How much storage is left after installing windows 10 on it?

I mean if it were a pure tablet like an iPad then 128GB storage would be plenty but a full install of windows with desktop apps? I imagine you'd blow through 128GB in no time!

    • +6

Got a HP Spectre with 128GB SSD. Win 10 + Many basic apps installed has left me with 80GB of available space. Have a SD card slot where I have installed another 128GB for music, movies, photos so it doesnt eat up the on-board SSD. I do a routine disk clean and maintenance once a month which frees up 4-5 Gigs of space on the SSD. I hope this helps. Cheers.

    • +2

I don't imagine people would install too many apps on a machine with just 4GB RAM.

From personal experience, you have about 60GB of space left after Windows + Essential apps are installed. But of course, everyone's list of 'essential apps' is different.

The stuff that really chews up the space is games.

      • +2

I think there's 96GB remaining on the default Win 10 install. Got a 200GB Sandisk Ultra sdcard for non essential storage and works a treat.

        • +2

Nice. How much did the 200GB microSD card set you back? I'm waiting on a good 128GB deal. :)

        • +1

Got it from Amazon USA when it was USD$80. Worked out to be $121 when the dollar was about 71 cents. This was a couple of months ago. Normally they are USD$99 on Amazon USA.

        • @flagger: Thanks. Not looking to spend more than ~$50 on a microSD card. So looks like it'll be a 128GB card.

    • +1

You can add an micro sd card to it. The slot is in the inner part of the kick stand so it's not noticeable :)

      • +1

        Ahhh,

Then the 128 model should be fine then if you can expand the memory.

I personally would like 16GB RAM version because I need to run VMs for work but this is a pretty sweet deal.

It's a shame this is the only version they're selling! :(

    • Since Vista, the Windows directory grows fairly quickly too, so don't think you can near fill it up on day 1 and keep it that level for the next 3 years. I'd say my Windows folder has grown around 10-15GB per year, which is significant on a 128GB drive.

Considering SP4 would be aimed at the higher end computer user, they really should just kick off the range at 256GB for this price, and leave 128GB for the non-pro editions.

Great price, but SP4 has a few issues at the moment:

    • Battery drain while sleeping. MS is aware of this, but no fix since release…Appears to be Skylake related. Current workaround is to use hibernate mode or full power down. Waiting for software patch.
    • Speakers pop a lot, especially when using the headphone jack. Waiting for software patch as well.
    • Microphone array has a lot of background hiss. Waiting for software patch.
    • Panel is really nice, however a lot of people are getting backlight bleed down the bottom near the hinges. The one I got has minimal backlight bleed, but I have seen photos of serious bleeding (inches long and very bright).
    • Fair few people complaining the battery life is poor (around 4 hours). However after I let the initial setup in Win 10 finish (took a day or so), the battery life on my i5/128gb/4gb unit is pretty good.
    • My experience with MS support (phone and live chat) has been pretty abysmal. Apple and Dell are far superior in the support department.

    Other than that, it's a good device…

    • I've got a SP4 i5/256GB/8GB and getting crap battery life too. What do you mean by letting the initial setup in Win10 finish?

Really love Windows Hello… so convenient

      • I guess the stuff that is optimising drive space, virus scanner completing scans, etc. I have Sophos anti-virus and found it would scan for quite a while on the SP4 after installing all my essential apps (cpu usage would be around 15%-20%).

I have read the Windows Hello is one of the possible causes of battery drain: http://www.winbeta.org/news/surface-pro-4-and-surface-book-s….

        • Cheers, I'll look that up.
I changed my power button to hibernate to avoid battery drain while not in use.

        • -2

You're not supposed to have any other third-party anti-virus/malware/firewall on Windows 10. As it doesn't play nice with the built-in one.

Since the built-in one does a great job already, I'll recommend you remove the third-party ones. That might solve 'some' of your battery problems.

    • +1

Not sure about the 4 but on my 3 I get much better battery life from edge broswer. Of course that means no extensions but battery goes from 5 to about 9 or 9 hours.

  • +1

My mackook air is 128gb and it's a fair bit if you don't store useless data, my windows HTC only has 32gb and runs windows fine.
Just don't use it to store useless stuff, off load that to an external drive.

  • +1

    So tempting

  • +1

That moment you realize it's cheaper to fly NZ-AUS return than buying the same item in NZ…

    • I was just thinking the opposite.. its almost worth flying to NZ for a quick holiday, to claim back the $124 GST at the airport.

That would cover most of the flight (on a $200 return ticket, which happens sometimes). Assuming free accommodation with friends/family etc..

  • WANNTTTTT

  • After considering, Core i7 with 256GB storage is the one for me. That is because of 8GB of RAM and faster iGPU. Now I need to find the best deal.

  • Anyone who gets this, apparently there is a trick to undervolt the CPU and iGPU. That way it consumes slightly less power and also generates slightly less heat. Take a look into it.

    • I'm having the heating issue on the sp3 i7… Fan goes on flat out seconds after seconds being on.. thigh burner

      • Yeah, apparently the SP4 is better at cooling.

Maybe the SP3 can be undervolted too.

  • this looks rather cheap! good find op!

  • out of stock

  • Wow.. I was just about to bite… and then it went out of stock. Ouch. lol

    • +10

Rookie mistake. You buy then post lol.

      • +1

Haha.. I got lucky! Back in stock!

  • Damn it, just bought Lenovo notebook a week ago.

  • Back in stock!

  • +1

Wish they also sold the keyboard. I have SP3 but i'm thinking of getting the new type cover because its feels much better for typing.

  • Can someone please confirm this is Aus stock and can claim GST?

    • It is Aus stock. Not sure if they give tax invoices though for GST claims.

      • Thanks! Ordered one.

        • Let me know if you get a tax invoice…I need one for work

        • Looks like cant claim GST…. :(

          Item total:
          $1,550.00 AUD
          GST:
          Shipping:
          $0.00 AUD
          Seller discount or charges:
          $0.00 AUD

        • @so3n: My bad, they confirmed its all Australian stocks with GST included in the final receipt!

        • @chacha: ABN number was on the tax invoice?

        • +1

          @so3n: Yes ABN included A.B.N.: 83 095 108 777

        • @chacha: Did the tax invoice come with the surface 4 pro when it was delivered? Or was it via email?

        • @MoarBargains: It was via email with the tracking ID. SP4 arrived with out an invoice.

  • These are virtually impossible to upgrade, so don't buy it assuming you can whack a 256GB in there later on.

    • +2

chuck a high capacity microsd in and problem solved.

  • Am waiting for Surface Book deal similar to this.

  • Does anyone install AV or Internet Security apps on it? Will it significantly slow down the device?

  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO missed it :(

    • +7

      YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES. You saved $1240.

      • +1

-_- I'd neg you buy I respect the deal too much so + lol

        • +3

          Some OZB tips:

          1. Unless you were actually going to use it a lot, having an extra $1240 in your bank account isn't a bad thing. I've bought lots of expensive gadgets just because they were discounted, and didn't use them much if at all. Looking back, I wish I hadn't bought them.

          2. Any time you miss a deal, it's not worth getting depressed about. It will appear again, possibly even cheaper. Maybe sooner rather than later. Many a time I thought I got an amazing deal.. and then next week (or next day) an even better deal somewhere else showed up and I wish I'd missed it.

Don't get too worked up about it.

        • @lostn: Lol, it is a good point 75% of the money I spend due to OZB is not needed at the end of the day. I was looking at this one since it was released, I do actually want the i7 8GB version, would have settled for this one.

Yea, thanks for the tips. I'll buy a 8 ball once one becomes a deal and use that to decide buy or not. If it says 'Yes' three times in a row, I buy :D

PS, hope you are right. I've been eye'n the 10% student discount for a lone time now. Now I won't be satisfied unless 20% off.

  • Has anyone received the cashrewards email for the 4% yet? I havent seen mine, and am worried that I missed out on the $49.6 rebate….

    • 4%? It was 2%.
Shopandmint was 3.5% (I used them), and I haven't received an "official" email yet but I have received the "we have recorded your click" email that they send every time you do an initial click through their link (which CashRewards don't do), so I'm not that concerned as yet.

  • Payment using any type of voucher or eBay credit may result in your purchase being ineligible to earn rewards. Could explain why I haven't received my cashrewards email yet.

    • Lat time the 15% deal saw one of my purchases go through but others rejected after a loooooooong time
