  • If you care about battery life, don't get the QHD version. Go for Full HD.

QHD is so unnecessary at 13 inches.

    • Well it boast an Incredible 12 hours battery life…someone's telling lies

      • +2

        Try 5 hours.

    • is this touch screen?

  • "Can't find more powerful for less"
It really depends what you need. This notebook has no gpu. Not great for portable gaming. May currently sells the gigabyte g3 for ~$1300

    • +3

      Who's May?

    • +3

Of course there will be gaming laptops for less, but i think that in terms of an ultrabook, these are great specs

      • The G3 only weighs 300g more, it's an extremely lightweight and powerful laptop, it's not exactly your typical gaming laptop that weighs 3kg. Personally I think it's overpriced

  • Wow,i76500u is only dual core / 4 threads. Way to go Intel to mislead people.

Under performs even the desktop i56400

    • +2

That's like saying gtx 680m is way underperform to gtx 670 when they are 2 diff category… M is for mobile(notebooks).

    • +2

You do realise the "U" in the model stands for something right? Just like QM or M and K in desktop CPUs.

Nothing misleading here ULV CPUs have been in ultra books for about 4 years now

      • -1

You don't think it's confusing that there are i5 CPUs that outperform i7s?
Or that my 2nd generation i7 CPU is faster than this 6th generation i7?
        I think that's confusing.

        • It's confusing, but it's not misleading. It's very clear

        • +1

It's confusing, yes. But no way misleading as mentioned above.

Intel has codes for designating target uses.

Core m is for tablets and fanless applications.
Numbers with a U on it are ULV ie ultra low voltage for tablets/laptops
QM or no letters are desktop CPUs.

I3/5/7 just designate the low/med/high end of the spectrum. Nothing confusing about a 75w 2nd gen CPU being faster than a 13w ULV chip. Obviously a full blown desktop chip will decimate

        • @krisspy: Mislead means cause someone to have a wrong impression. Just the fact that they're calling very different chips i7 is both confusing and misleading.

They could've easily had a different designation for ULV chips. Intel know that non-technical people only look at "i7" (if that) and ignore the numbers and letters at the end. Just look at how retailers advertise these machines, half the time they don't specify more than "i3/5/7" in the ad title.

        • @fredblogs: you can be misled by computers or phones or cars or travel agents or butchers or grocers. If you're going to spend a lot of money then you should research first.

  • "13.3" 16:9 IPS QHD (3200 x 1800)"

I would need a magnifying glass to read normal text on that screen…

    • Put the text size and icons onto ultra huge large.

Just shows how crazy it is when they're putting a QHD display on a small 13.3" screen. Totally overkill isn't it?.

    • Not really. I have a QHD+ and you can upscale the text size or change resolution if you want.

  • +3

No backlit keyboard at that pricepoint is a disappointment.

  • any opinion on the 120gb SSD Plus?

Looking to put it in an older 2008" macbook pro just for the OS as it's only used for browsing the web for my parents

    • +2

I do not understand the popularity of the 120GB model, because its write speed is a mere 180MB/s (I added that to the description, because advertising the read speed only is misleading - not blaming the OP, it's the websites which omit it). That's about 2.5x as slow as other SSD's. Even the 240GB model only writes at 350GB/s. Spend a little bit more and you can buy something better. I bought a 240GB Ultra II from Amazon for $83 at the time, and there are similar SSD's of that size around that price range.

    • It's not a bad SSD at all for the money. I get 210MB/s on mine which is plenty. It's the 4k writes which matter more.

The 240GB gets over 300MB/s write.

It is a dollar cheaper at Umart though.

  • For me the sweet spot is the UX305UA with the 256GB SSD and i7-6500U.

Heck, I'd have taken the i5 but I couldn't see any, and with this deal the i7 is cheaper than other UX305LA's with core i5 anyway.

  • AU stock?

    • yeah AU stock

  • I have a zenbook 303ux. I love the back lit keyboard (which is not included on the 305). The WiFi is weak though so whatch out if that is important to you. Could be an asus thing.

  • +1

Guys, I've bought the Asus UX305UA and it is not shipped and Futu Online doesn't reply to my mails. Any idea what can I do? I am really disappointed because I was expecting the laptop. :-( Looks like they are scums!
