    Perfect Valentine's gift for myself

Edit: You can get a $10 off your shopping with Woolies by buying $50 Myer giftcard (that you can use to buy this Bose). https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/232829

    • +1

You can watch a romantic comedy with the nice speakers! ;)

You can't use gift cards online though. But good find!

  • +1

    No HDMI … hmmm

    • I never understand why people want HDMI? The connection provided allows you to connect to your TV, and that's all you need really. But now there's Bluetooth as well!

      • my TV does not have optical output. it has only HDMI :( and standard RCA or something type output

        • Ohhh I see. Well I think there's a standard RCA input that you can do instead of the optical.

        • +1

          @lars06:
yes but they write RCA does not give you the same quality as HDMI and Optical.

on second thoughts how bad can it really get. my hitachi already has sub mediocre sound.

        • @Harshbusa: Yeah fair enough. Can't really help you there. Nothing online about it?

        • -1

          @Harshbusa:

Complete tosh. There's nothing wrong withe the audio quality on RCA. It's still industry standard in many professional spheres. And there is NO quality loss through a good quality RCA cable. Now, I'd you're talking ability to handle multiple audio channels (i.e more than 2) then yes you'd need optical or HDMI. But the blanket statement RCA isn't as good quality is false. If anything it's a more pure connection with less digital interruption

        • @D4NVT: Eh? An Optical or HDMI connection should offer much better quality audio as it is not susceptible to noise and signal loss you would have with an analog RCA connection. Source : Sound Engineer.

      • +1

I know … but I would have thought BOSE would have been all over it. Agree its not essential but having it synch up via HDMI and arc is great.

      • Hmm tempting @lars06 how is it in terms of communicating to the TV, can you control the volume using your TV remote or can it only be changed through its own remote?

        • The old model could only be changed with the included remote. I used a Logitech Harmony Universal remote though, and that worked really well.
But with the new model, there is a universal remote included, so you can use that to control the Bose and your TV.

        • @lars06: Cheers for the quick reply. I'm jarred from my last terrible soundbar haha!

        • @ohhidayo: Aha no problem. Yeah I have never tried any other audio brands because I have never had a bad Bose experience.

      • -1

HDMI is better quality, it can pass Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio, while optical can't.

        • But Bose does not use dts or Dolby true HD they do their own thing anyways :)

        • @Harshbusa:
I was talking in general, as I think lars06 was too. HDMI is one of the reasons I went for the Sony HTCT780 in Dec, and I think it's an important point to consider for someone who cares about audio.

  • How does this compare to the CineMate 15? I need a soundbar and I missed out on the Sony HTCT780 for $325 from JB last year - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/227694

    • I've never seen the Cinemate 15 before. But after a quick search it seems that the Cinemate is more for a cinema experience. But the RRP's are quite close. So if I were you, the Solo seems like a better option at less than half the price. The sound quality difference would not be substantial.

  • +1

    Ahhh… I do not need a soundbar… i do not need a sound bar… Actually… for that price, maybe i do!
Bose are leagues ahead for sound quality just a shame i can't go and hear this one before i buy it.

    • I have the original Solo TV and it's amazing. Really great sound that is no comparison to TV speakers. Excited to hear the Solo 15 too as it will be a big improvement on the Solo!

    • +1

Bose are leagues ahead for sound quality….

You probably also own a pair of Dr Dre's beats. The BOSE marketing department loves you.

The reviews show they are average at best.

      http://www.cnet.com/au/products/bose-solo-tv-sound-system/

      • +1

        I see your point

but you got the wrong product review

Solo & Solo 15 are difference in terms of sound
They use different speaker setting within the system

      • The Bose Solo 15 has been said to significantly improve sound quality. And the original Solo is still great quality.

  • i don't know if my TV has the correct connections…
    I only have two outputs
    Digital audo out - optical
    R-L -Video av out

    Will either of these connect?

    • I'm pretty sure the optical output is the recommended connection. But you might want to make sure that it's correct for your TV in case I'm incorrect.

    • +1

You'll be able to connect fine using the optical out from your TV.

  • +4

off to pick this up from a local store now!
Will let everyone know how i go.

    • How did you go?

      • +1

        He didn't make it

  • It's a matter of opinion but I prefer one with a subwoofer.

  • +1

I gave it a try at MYER few weeks ago, and i was very impressed. The bass is strong, sound feels clear, solid and warm. Watching movies at home with this one feels like sitting in the cinema. I was very happy when i got it, even i got another one from YAMAHA.

    • +1

They are pretty impressive for such a small simple unit. It's for people like me who don't want to pay for a home theatre but want a middle ground.

  • +8

I do not need a soundbar… i do not need a sound bar… i do not need a sound bar… i do not need a sound bar… Oh God please help me stop thinking of it…….

  • +1

If i want a 2.0 or 2.1 setup and have space for floor speakers. Would I just be better off with regular speakers or sound bar for under $400?

    • Personal choice I suppose. I doubt you will get regular speakers as good as these for this price though.

  • Very tempting but don't think my TV has Bluetooth (2yr old LG) so not sure how it would connect??

    • +3

      It doesn't connect via Bluetooth.
You connect it to your TV by an optical audio cable. Bluetooth is so you can connect your phone and play music wirelessly.

  • Does anyone have an idea how this compares to the the Sony CT 80??? There was a deal here in December: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/224828

    • No idea, but judging from the RRP being 3x that of the Sony, I would assume this is better

      • BOSE pricing is more an indicator of their marketing cost than the engineering of the product. You cant use cost as a guide here.

    • CT80 is for 175+- 10 in Costco

  • -1

    So chunky though…
Don't think you could wall-mount this, and if you could - it'd look pretty ordinary next to sleek flat-panel TV.

    • TV usually sits on top..

      • -1

Yes, but for those with wall mounted TVs?

        • Wall mounted shelf?

        • +1
        • In all seriousness, i Wouldn't bother with this unit at all if you want a wall-mount. It's width/depth is about approx 35cm (could be wrong)?.. It would hang out off the wall by too much. Brings up another question which i don't know, can it be wall-mounted to begin with?

        • @lars06: Okay, I'll admit - looks decent if you have a cabinet beneath your wall-mounted TV. Still though, not convinced that it would look good on a wall-mounted shelf beneath / above your wall mounted TV.

Wouldn't work in a situation like this, for instance:
          http://images.techhive.com/images/article/2014/12/yamaha-yas…

        • @Catchy:

Definitely not! Exactly why i said i wouldn't bother if you plan to wall-mount. Maybe a wall mounted shelf or cabinet under.. Would look ridiculous wall mounted imo!

        • +1

@Catchy: that's what sound bars are for

  • -1

    ELI5 what a soundbar does?

  • +1

Hey all, would this sound plate fit TV larger than 50"?

Saw the website and said its designed for TVs up to 46-50"

    Thanks

    • I'm not sure exactly for the new model. But from my experience, it's a bit of a conservative guideline. The original Solo TV said up to 40'. I've had a 46' TV on it for more than 3 years and it's completely fine. But do it at your own risk…

      • Weight won't be a problem if you have a TV from the past few years - they hardly weigh anything anymore.

The issue is more the size and shape of the stand.

  • +1

    I do not need one
But I want one at this price

    God…. so tempting
Ill call JB and ask for price match
If they do then I might get one…

    ——-————-——————
Just called JB at Knox VIC
The guy asked me to come in
I guess he might pricematch unwillingly

  • I had one of these before I bought the Sonos Playbar+Sub combo. Excellent sound and even better price!

    • "Even better price"? That combo would cost about $2000. This is <$400…

      • I was talking about the Bose.

        • +1

          Oh sorry my mistake! :)

  • So tempted but the last soundbar I bought (Philips $250 one) was absolutely terrible, I'm weary of soundbars/bases now haha!

  • +2

Pricematched at southland JB - 2 remaining

  • I'm new to soundbars, if I connected it up using the optical input, can I control its volume from the tv or will I have to use the bose remote every time?

    • The old model could only be changed with the included remote. I used a Logitech Harmony Universal remote though, and that worked really well.
But with the new model, there is a universal remote included, so you can use that to control the Bose and your TV.

  • -1

    Whats that your soundbase blows?

  • Has anyone used it with an Xbox one? was wondering if the Kinect Volume up/down voice commands work with it.

  • +2

bugger could not stop myself, even if my TV is already quite high on a stand…

396 bucks poorer (also bought the $15 multi telephone plug cable…. http://www.myer.com.au/shop/mystore/offers/s15-electrical-sa…

But about time I get that sound upgraded

  • +1

Oh dear. Just bit the bullet on one of these without looking at the dimensions on this (approx 7.5 cm high and 60 cm wide). Unfortunately i have an LG tv with small legs at each side (LG 60LB5820), and only 5 cm space between bottom of legs and tv screen, and the widest drawer on my entertainment unit (which sits on the ground) is 50 cm long. Anyone have any ideas on how I can make this work without resorting to a new entertainment unit?

    • +1

Ahhh that's a shame! I can't think of anything. Keep in mind Myer has very easy returns.

    • Just sit it on top of a few blocks of wood. You can get a few offcuts for free at Bunnings.

  • +1

Finally a Bose home theatre product at a reasonable price..

  • I was looking at a Yamaha YAS model for $550 but saw this and am even happier that i disnt buy it. While waiting for delivery of the Bose system i'll have to figure out where to put it as my 60 inch Samsung might be a bit heavy for this unit.

  • Would be perfect if it came with a subwoofer.. But still a tempting price!

  • Out of stock ?

    • Seems to still be in stock on my end…

      • yeah it shows "out of stock" after checkout securely button was pressed ( after loggin to your account ). i guess i just missed out on it.

        • Thanks. Updated post showing it's expired. Shame you missed out! :(

  • +1

Got nothing on this.. though I had to wait 5 weeks for it, was worth every minute

I have just bought the last one at Myer Southland. If you are still interested, you may check directly with your local store.

    • Just checked a guy bought last one 1 hour ago.

  • +2

Price matched at JB very happy with the sound quality for the $$$ thanks lars06.

    • Can you post a receipt? I'm looking to price match at JB too since Bose store won't do it

  • +3

    JB Price match receipt: http://postimg.org/image/gljlrd3k1/

    • +1

$1.65 cheaper than us. You're the true Ozbargainer ;)

  • just saw this post. would JB call for stock before price match?

  • I got them from jb for the price of Myer

However works on Bluetooth with phone
But not with analog RL cable from tv

Tried a few things but no luck

Will call Bose first thing Monday

To : hitachi 55 inch led tv. Not smart tv . Don't have to manuAl or can't find it online

    • Have a look at trouble shooting on page 12! You may need to mute your tv and select external audio! It worked perfect for me!

      • My tv does it have external audio option of any sorts only has something spid or something with option as pcm / auto and off nothing works though :(

  • Wow Myer. My order is listed as 'backordered'. I was expecting it to arrive tomorrow, but now I am worried that it will either take a long time or they won't fulfil the order…

    • Have we really progressed any further than 1950 before we had computers that could talk to each other?

    • Couldn't be any worse then my situation. When they were offloading the soundlink mini version 1, I ordered one for click and collect everything went through and got the confirmation to pick up at Southland Myer. When I got there they said there's none left so in the end they refunded my money.

  • I just got mine from Myer Penrith today. It is too small for my tv. I am selling it got $370. Pick up from Sydney city.

    • +1

am interested - check ur pm

  • I replied your pm. Check your inbox pls. Thanks

  • My order in Brisbane got cancelled as well

  • Has anybody had their Solo delivered yet?
