Ahh a guests be gone bed!

  • Would a cheap sofa bed from IKEA be better or this? As a guest bed.

    • I believe the Aldi one is a single bed.
But I'd probably go the Ikea as it's a couch & bed.

Both will be uncomfortable. I always just put the mattress on the floor when offered sofa/trundle beds.
I'd get a foam mattress like this

OF COURSE a mattress is a better solution, but that's not really the point.

The idea of a compact fold-up bed is to be compact, and to fold up…. allowing easy storage when not required. In other words, a temporary sleeping place for occasional short-term guests (ie: one night).

How and where do you propose that the full-side clark rubber mattress is stored, after those occasional guests leave? Leaned up against the hallway wall?

        • Well since we don't share a house (do we, is that you Greg?) I have no idea where you'd store it.

Rolled up in garage, up against a wall in the spare/kids bedroom,

This is too luxurious for the guests. whats wrong with a mattress on the floor?

Nothing. But where do you store that mattress?

  • I find the supplied matress on these type beds not very good. On a similar one we have here. We find the mattress uncomfortable and the springs can be felt through it, giving an uncomfortable nights sleep without putting extra padding down to sleep on.

I'm guessing one of these inflatable ones like Aerobed or Eurobed would be more comfortable.

Go and get a cheap yoga mat or camping bed roll. Put that between mattress and springs, and you will find there's an amazing difference!

  • Psht, leave the mattress to the ladies, real men sleep straight on the floor!

  • Hmm, I'm on the fence about buying one though…guess I might sleep on this one

I'm sure you will fold sooner or later.
