yeah buy today and never receive your goods…. great bargain! :D

And if it breaks, join the (growing) list of unsecured creditors right at the back of the queue!

      • +1

        Is that true?
DSE is already in receivership, so I thought we are effectively dealing with a new company now.

And there is always the manufacturer for warranty for other brands.
Of course the DSE-branded items sold before receivership have no warranty now.

        • Well if the company goes belly up, there'll be no money to pay out warranty claims. You'll be an unsecured creditor which means you're behind employees, banks, receivers, most commercial creditors, landlords, etc. So most likely you'll get nothing - maybe 10c in the dollar if you're lucky.

        • @magicmoose:
          Are you an accountant?

        • @manic: no

        • DSE aren't giving out refunds or exchanges even for faulty goods.
          JVC TV under warranty broke.
Manufacturer say it is DSE's responsibility to refund or exchange.
DSE say they can't do refunds or exchange.
Have made a formal complaint through consumer affairs, but I'm not holding my breath…

        • @C-Nut:
From my perspective, both are lying.

        • @C-Nut:

I take it you bought the item before receivership?
You don't mention repair. Did they offer that?

        • @manic:
Yeah bought it last year. Manufacturer say its unrepairable and are not offering a repair.
Consumer affairs say ultimately it it the manufacturer's responsibility to provide the warranty.
They instructed me to lodge a formal complaint and they will get involved, which I've done, but from what I've heard, Consumer Affairs has no legal weight…

        • @C-Nut:

You have been caught in the modern world of fake branding. JVC stopped making TVs back in 2008.
What you have is really a Dick-Smith TV, with only the name licensed from JVC. It comes from the same Chinese factory as the DS-badged ones.
If you got a warranty card with it, it probably says warranty is provided by Dick Smith.

JVC/Kenwood Australia has nothing to do with them, so you are probably screwed. Best to tell this to consumer affairs before they waste their time.

        • @manic:
Ah crap. Yeah I have also been dealing with Yale Prima, the manufacturer…
You should have sent me this article 6 months ago…

Very good monitor, has 1 HDMI 2.0 port which does support 3840x2160@60Hz. Can't comment on the speakers, haven't used them or the TV functions.

    • Yep, and if you need a DisplayPort or Embedded DisplayPort adapter, get the CAC-1070 or CAC-1170. Should work on most 4th, 5th or 6th gen Intel, or most new AMD cards.

      • oh my god! someone finally released one after i went out and bought a GTx 980 ffs

    • It's a Television, not a computer monitor. Just saying it's made for a sole purpose of being a TV. I definitely wouldn't use it on a PC especially during gaming has an awful 9.5ms response time since it's designed as a TV.

Compared to that a proper good computer monitor would be in the range of 1ms response time.

Given that it sounds like @Forskin owns one and you don't… I'd kind of side with them… though I'm curious if you've played any racing games / first person shooters and can comment on the lag / reponse time?

        • I personally don't notice any ghosting or lag but I guess that can differ person to person. I mostly play FPS games not so much racing.

      • for the lols holly…

i bought one on boxing day sale.. to be honest i hate it and ended up donating it to a refugee family
no doubt price vs what you get factors in but it was a rushed buy and i think it would be better do a bit more research and get jvc or tlc or something else in the low bracket mark…. just my opinion.

What was it you hated about it specifically? Did you use a PC or console connected to it at all?

      • +1

i used it for console/foxtel & normal tv.

the hdmi input 1 which is supposedly 4k had very bad refresh rate and was not giving true colour nor 4k hd quality especially through foxtel that was really bad, on console it was slightly better. it was quite finiky to adjust things like colour ratios/modes.
the remote of mine stopped working after 2 days and it was such an issue getting them to replace it.

it would make a decent screen for console / pc.

few other things here & there.

What would you be using it for?

its just my opinion. i ended up buying an lg 40" 4k smart tv for 150 more and its soo much better. words cant explain
and with wifi and web i stream everything with no dramas

"ended up donating it to a refugee family"
      Haven't they suffered enough?

      • You completely crack me up :)

      • hahaha crack up

  • while Anchorage Capital owned them, I had 3 instances where Dick's service could best be described as non-existent & anti-customer. This involved not bothering to even answer emails to their online (supposedly online) store, nor making timely refunds without a PayPal dispute (for non-existent stock).

Now that the proverbial has hit the fan, I'm yet more amazed people shop here, let alone buy their branded goods.

Pretty good panel IMO for the price. I run a NVIDIA Shield on it which pumps out 4k all day long.

  • No statutory guarantee once receiver winds up business and who would provide voluntary warranty for a DSE branded TV if not DSE?

  • +1

not a deal, DS puts ridiculous prices on their TV brand. Last year I bought DS 39.5 full hd model for $224 and I can say I'm happy with it for that price. So in my opinion this one should be $300 max on special and $380 regular price. Target had 42" Onix UHD regular price of 399 any day, some people bought it for $350 on special. Just my 2 cents. P.S. I was at Target in december 2015 and they had about 20 Onyx TVs in stock, couple weeks ago I found none. I hope they'll have more stock soon and 20% off store-wide :)

  • any ideas on what can people do about the giftcards?

    • Apparently Coles/Woolies had a thing where you can trade them in for WISH giftcards or something similar if you had proof of purchase from them. Not sure if that expired though.

  • no deal, especially after what's happened.
they can take their product and shove it where the light don't shine.
no offense Dick but they've given you a bad name.
