Dell P2715Q 27" UHD 4K UltraSharp Monitor - $777 Delivered @ Kogan

130

Was $711 delivered direct from Dell a year ago - see previous deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/183664. Has since gone up in price, presumably due to weaker AUD.

Currently $999 direct from Dell, with Pricepal 10% off voucher + max 5.4% cashback it would be $850 from Dell.

Cheapest on Staticice that actually has stock seems to be Scorptec for $899.

  • Why on earth do they put 4k res panels in a 27" display at such a nice price :/ where's the 32" 16:10 4k display for under $1200? :/

    • They do a 24" 4K as well, P2415Q.

I have the iMac Retina 5K 27" and am now getting this display for work to get something similarly good.

      • +1

Even with glasses I can't imagine 4k at 27" I really have difficulty noticing pixels at 2560x1600 on my 30" and I sit only 40cm at most from it.
It might help with slightly more resolution but not much more.

        • Being someone who used to have 2 1440p monitors and 1 4k monitor, it is noticeable especially in games. (Not as big as the jump from 1080p to 1440p was though).

        • +1

@ruddiger7: That's a surprising response. I'd expect it would be more noticable in windows / text / image viewing than in games. When you've got contrasting colours side by side in tiny things like fonts, it's easier than a blended in, entire image of a videogame.

Either way, to be fair it does seem a reasonable price, but I refuse to replace my 2x30" Dells until I can buy 2x30" (?) with OLED panels :) another 3 years for me I guess.

        • +1

I went from a Dell 3008WFP (30" 2560x1600) to P2415Q and love it. I found the pixels on the 30" distracting (for text / working) when coming from other high PPI displays.

The bigger issue was the pocket pain of upgrading for gaming at 4K!

Slow refresh rate is the only downside to this panel (9ms), should be fine for a lot of stuff but not gaming.

    • +3

Lol that's fine for gaming and you won't notice the difference unless your superhuman

      • -2

It's the slowest refresh rate panel Ive seen in a fair while.

Looking at pcpartpicker there is <1 page of screens at this latency or higher and 19 at lower latency.

So yeah, its top 5% of latency, it will appear as blurring in fast moving stuff, video, games, etc.

        • -2

It may be slower that many others, but that doesn't mean it's bad. The difference between 9ms and say 5ms would be meaningless for almost every person in almost every situation, even twitchy games.

        • +8

IMO, the main issue for gamers is whether to be buying into a $783 monitor that doesn't support adaptive sync (G-Sync or FreeSync).

  • +2

How does it compare to this 28" Dell (same res, 1" larger, cheaper) ?
    http://www.megabuy.com.au/dell-p2815q-28-inch-4k-ultra-hd-38…

    • +3

28" is far worse because of TN panel and 30hz. (You also pay far less, but you really wouldn't want 30hz)

      • Phew, that makes me feel better having just ordered the P2715Q and not having heard of this model before.

    • +1

The P2815Q has a TN panel. The P2715Q has an IPS panel.
TN has better refresh rate and is cheaper to make, IPS has much better color and viewing angle.

  • more stats:
    panel type: IPS
    refresh rate: 60 Hz
    response time: 9 ms (bad)
inputs: hdmi 1.4 (30hz limited), display port, mini display port

I'm in the market for a new monitor, I'm leaning more towards the 2k rather than 4k to let my computer breathe.
also as someone above said, the response time of this display is a deal breaker.

    • +1

also depend on what your uses are. the fonts from most softwares will be tiny. Yes you can scale the gui…but may not work well on some softwares.

      • "most" is debatable. I haven't had a problem in years.

      • Mac OS X has dealt with this fine since 2012 when the first MacBook Pros with Retina display came out.

        • +1

Yes, could make a great bit of extra real estate to an rMBP. Much better value than the geriatric Apple Thunderbolt Display. Plenty of USB3 ports. Pity no thunderbolt though.

Any idea if the "3-Year Advanced Exchange Service and Premium Panel Guarantee" would be fulfilled by Dell Australia or Kogan?

I've heard bad things about Kogan's service in the past.

It also says "This Product is offered and supplied by Kogan HK Limited"

    • I highly doubt Dell Australia will touch this. You will have to deal with Kogan in respect to warranty.

  • I had one of these at work and got rid of it because support for 4k DPI in Windows 7 so was spotty that it ended up more trouble than it was worth. Went to a 25 inch Ultrawide Dell instead and haven't looked back. At home I have a 29 inch UltraWide and that's even better.

    • +1

Agreed, Windows 10 made this monitor usable, Windows 7 was painful.

  • I currently have a 27" 1440p monitor and a super old 1080p on it's last legs which I'm going to replace.

I love my 1440p monitor (Korean one found on here) but I'm looking to find another. Its for Web Dev/Graphical work so would one of these be suited well for that use? (Or the 1440p equivalent).

Price is good. I paid $839 at Umart last June for this. The anti-glare is no where near as aggressive as most of Dell's previous efforts (this was a huge concern for me). It's barely noticeable. Little opinion on it below1

    Highly recommend it.

    1. The monitor is fine for gaming. There absolutely is ghosting at times but I've only truly noticed it in CSGO, I haven't noticed it in slower games like RB6S/RO2. That being said, I've just hit LEM and I don't believe the monitor is holding me back. I tried gaming on my old s27a950d but the colour is just dreadful. Whichever way you feel back the panel- You will not be disappointed with the colour reproduction. It's absolutely beautiful.
Steam games' console menu is un-optimized and currently dreadful. That's the only gaming downside for me. You may want to wait if you're interested in AAA titles.

I bought this monitor from Dell a few months ago.
Very good monitor for general work plus I use it to play Rise of the tomb raider in 4k. Awesome!

The only thing that pisses me off is when I turn my monitor off, my computer recognises it as a very low res monitor so all my windows jump to the top left hand corner when I turn it on again. :( Dunno if its the monitor or my graphics cards fault.

    • +2

That is a feature of Windows + the way Displayport works (the link is bought completely down when the monitor sleeps).

There is a workaround fix, it involves registry editing to change the default resolution (generally very low) of your detected monitor to its max res.

      http://rcaloca.blogspot.com.au/2014/12/windows-changing-size…

I ended up deleting all of the monitor entries (backup first) because I had a lot! and then let windows recreate for my new monitor and then edit to bring up to native resolution

  • Weird - I placed an order on Thursday 18th Feb. Kogan website says "Usually leaves warehouse in 1-2 days"

It's now Tuesday 23rd and it still hasn't shipped, and searching for P2715Q on Kogan.com returns no results, it looks like it's been delisted.

I queried when it would ship, only got the generic response below.

Is it normal for them to only list a small quantity of items and remove when sold out?…

I regret to inform you that there has been a slight delay with your Dell P2715Q 27" UHD 4K UltraSharp Monitor.

We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Your order is expected to dispatch within the next 24-48 hours.

Once your order leaves our warehouse, you will be notified via email and sent tracking information where applicable.

Thank you for your patience, we look forward to getting your order to you as promptly as possible.

    • Still no dispatch confirmation 8 days after I ordered.

You guys can chat with dell sales online, I bought U2515H for 437 this month and P2715Q (estimated Delivery Date: 2/03/2016) for 782 just now(may be 747.48 if I spent more time).

    For example:
ao3.com.au's price is 782 without delivery fee.
kogan's price is 747.48 without delivery fee.

Ask them match this price, more important mention you can order right now if you can get this price. Sometime you need chat with different sales. Good luck.
