I don't know what i was doing, but i randomly came across this fantastic deal this morning. At this price, it's cheaper than most plans.

Apparently it has been going on since the start of this month (judging by the activation period), so I'm kinda surprised this hasn't been posted yet.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

  1. The double data only applies to sims activated between 1/2/16 - 31/5/16 and only for the first 3 recharge within the offer period.
  2. You need to recharge online via Express recharge or through the MY Vodafone app to receive the 10% bonus data, refer to the link for more details
  3. For those who aren't familiar with pre-paid mobile broadband, you need a data/mobile broadband sim. Regular phone sims have different recharge offers.

12.6gb $40 40 days
16.8gb $50 180 days

Not bad at all. I like low cost long-expiry plans as it provides you a lot of flexibility.

    • Pretty much this for me even though i plan to use this as a backup :)

    • +2

Coles has 3G USB dongles for $9 this week, including 1.5Gb in 30 days.

  • I've got an iPhone 4S I want to use primarily as a GPS and that $60 1 year option is looking good for that job. What's the best way to get a SIM? The $1.80/$2 Prepaid Dual Punch SIM?

    • +5

I assume you want live traffic data or some other feature that requires data?? Otherwise just consider getting an offline GPS app, HERE Maps is quite good for a freebie. https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/here-maps-offline-navigation…

    • +3

That won't do. That's a phone sim, you need a broadband sim for this.
      http://www.vodafone.com.au/personal/mobile-broadband/prepaid

That or you could just go into a vodafone store and tell them that you're after a mobile broadband sim.

      • Strange question. Will the sims that come with things from previous deals like 3G Pocket wifi etc work with this deal?

        • +1

I'm about to find out xD

        • @Hunga: please reply when you do!

        • +1

          @CodeXD:

Yes they work. I have a $30 Prepaid voice Sim in my wireless broadband wifi device used purely for data.

        • +1

@CodeXD: Finallyyy, the double data was applied. It works! For whatever reason, I also got 4gb, instead of the 3gb that was said to be included with the modem.

        • @Hunga: I just bought my 4g modem, the guy told me not to recharge until I've used up the 4gb (3gb initial + 1gb bonus) as it will overwrite the 4gb data. Can you please confirm if this is the same for you?

        • +1

@CodeXD: it didnt overwrite. I did the 60 recharge, so it works out to be 21+4=25gb. That's exactly what i got.

      • Thanks.

  • +7

To get the best from Vodafone you want a device that supports the LTE 850 band (band 5). Other bands may be unavailable and/ or more congested.

The "Vodafone Pocket WiFi® 4G Starter Pack." is half price and only $39.50 and is compatible so I think that there is terrific value in using both deals.

    http://shop.vodafone.com.au/broadband-specs/pocket-wifi-4g-R…

    • The $39.50 pocket WiFi is also available in store (in Sydney CBD anyway). Picked up a $2 data sim to recharge with this offer!

  • +2

    That's a great price I'm on a plan month by month 8gig for $30

This comes out cheaper by gigabytes

    • almost the same boat. i am on $27.99 plan for 8Gb

      • Can you tell me what plan this is? Currently looking for a new phone plan!

    • +6

Gigabytes is a currency? We're all doomed.

      • +1

Well any decent phone plan nowadays is unlimited calls/txt so data is where the pricing differs, yes.

  • +1

Any idea if you can sign up to this, then data pool with an existing vodafone plan?

  • Does anyone know if you are able to use the sim to call so the person can see the number and then they call you back? In short does it come with a mobile number you would know and you can receive calls?

    • +3

I would think it would come a number but how would you call if you had no credit to make a call unless you made a VoIP call.

      • Yeah, I will use VoIP call. For other calls, friends can call me using other app like whatsapp.

        • All data sims I have had they advise you of the phone number (as useless as it was for me).

        • @djkelly69:
I had the impression that data SIMs came with a number but you couldn't call or receive calls on it.

        • @amts: I am pretty sure you can add credit to it and call and receive calls.

        • @amts: Not sure as I have never really tried - just stating that it definitely has a number. Whether it can used as "phone" number or not is a question for someone else.

        • @djkelly69: The desktop app for most mobile broadbands allows you to send/receive SMS so I think it should be fine to receive calls if used in a handset

      • Not sure about VF but I assume it'd be the same with all Australian carriers.
On Telstra mobile broadband you get a phone number with the SIM which CAN receive calls.
So you can tell everyone this number to receive calls and use VoIP for outgoing calls.

      • Vodafone used to have an app on the computer which would allow you to send and receive texts from the sim on the broadband dongle stick, but there was no function for calls. Some time ago though.

  • -3

So with double data you get 105GB for $125?

    • +2

No it's doubled already in the post, check the link.

  • +3

How do you get 52.5GB when max accumulation is 50GB?

    • +2

Read the terms and conditions. http://www.vodafone.com.au/doc/MBB-Prepaid-terms-november201…

      From section 5 ::

Read the first line of section g below very carefully ::

"f) If you recharge your Prepaid Mobile Broadband Product before the end of the applicable Credit Expiry Period
any unused data credit will be rolled over to a maximum of 50GB.

      g) You can accumulate data to over the maximum of 50GB, however once your balance is equal to or greater than
50GB you won’t be able to recharge further until your Data Credit falls below 50GB. See paragraph i) below for
further terms regarding your applicable Credit Expiry Period.

      • +4

The confusion is understandable, because Vodafone stupidly neglected to put that in the T&Cs that appear directly under the plans.
They also neglected to put it in the Critical Information Summary.

You shouldn't have to go searching through layers of pages to get clarification :-(

  • +4

so that guy who downloaded 450GB over the Telstra free data weekend saved $1000 plus ???

    • +1

He could only have saved money if he was intending buying and using 450GB on that particular day, otherwise he was merely taking advantage of an unmetered service which he hadn't intended buying/paying for in the first place.

  • +1

i got confused. recharge before 8/3/16… or before 31/8/16?

Double data on first three recharges made before 08/03/16
Double data available on first three Prepaid Mobile Broadband recharges of $30 or above made following SIM activation and before 31/8/16 (inclusive).

    • +1

      Activate new SIM between 1/2/16 – 8/3/16
      Recharge up to 31/8/16

  • +1

Can i use this deal together with coles promotion 25% off Vodafone recharge, though it will lose 2.5gb bonus data.

    • +2

You could ask Vodafone directly and then share the answer :-)

Just DON'T mention the fact that Coles is 25% off or they might prevent it from working in the future ;-)

  • +11

"I don't know what i was doing, but i randomly came across this"

    Ahh, the internet.

    • +13

yup, search for porn and you get mobile broadband plans

      • +2

it's usually the other way around :)

  • Can I recharge multiple sims for throughout the year?

    • As long as the SIMs were activated between 1/2/16 – 8/3/16

  • Can i use this deal together with coles promotion 25% off Vodafone recharge, though it will lose 2.5gb bonus data?

  • +3

This will go well with my free Vodafone phone I got from Woolies! It's my GPS tracker and wifi hotspot in the car for the kids and their face booking crap… InB4 but but but it's only 3G and not all bands… Don't care, kids don't care. Lucky to get any internet in the car, self entitled beings that they are…

  • +1

So if I understand this correctly my mobile broadband sim that I have had for 12 months + and recharged 5 times is not eligible? If so I guess its worth me throwing this sim away and getting a new one

  • Bit of heat in the marketplace onya Vfone. Those of knowledge in what they are doing may get 80Gb for less money though, or a mix of calls &/addons..(400min, 0.5, 2Gb)

    • If you’re on a 365 Day recharge, check out our support page to buy one with your Flexible Credit.

fonebot/Voda list Flexible Credit @70%-50% off rrp <:

    • +6

Please help us understand how this is possible

    • Could you get the prepaid combo starter pack for $20 + 8GB
Then recharge 365 Mobile data for $125 + 52 GB?

    • It can be swapped over manually where they swap my Flexible Credit /starter pack for an equivalent price point in the 365 day recharge range - 20, 30, 40, 50 etc

This opens up notably excruciating default rates, for instance, but otherwise free voice calls Inbound are possible & infinite 1800, some outbound V2V, recharge credit rolls over.
The hack or highlight in my view is, 2,000MB's-on demand per up to 46 hours, bought w code dataday by TXT 1264 $1gb.. Netflix presto play store galore
None of which bothers a VoLTE 4G/VoIP determined users. Define a limit.

Phone tether versus broadband USB vs device of choice shouldn't be a concern either (compared to Optus' unwarranted discrimination) I don't xpect.

      • +1

Sorry bud I don't understand what your telling us to do?

        • +1

Swapped over means support offline would activate your prepaid combo starter pack of $20 + 8GB as the 365 day equivalent recharge, versus outlay of $125 MBB to obtain more than 21Gb yeah?
          11 x 2gb, Pick youd prices here bud http://vodafone.intelliresponse.com/index.jsp?requestType=No…

For me it's a broader band internet while having voice calls available as well.

    • +2

      Wow, way to generalise.

    • +3

      ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿100gb IS 50gb+????????????

  • The listed expiry for the 16.8, 21, and 52.5 plans does not match the expiry in the terms and conditions.

    Which one is correct?

  • +1

With Vodaphone I only ever get H+.

I never see 4G appear on my phone.

    • It seems your phone is not compatible with VF frequencies.

    • I have to re-enable LTE on my phone every time i reset it, otherwise it defaults to 3g only. Maybe you want to confirm this? Also, could be a coverage issue.

    • +1

What handset do you have? I find if I use a handset without LTE Band 5 (850MHz) my coverage of 4G really suffers

    • What he said,
You need a phone with LTE band 5. It's not a very commonly supported band unfortunately.

      • most newish iphones support it

        • true but most androids you need to be careful and check for it. Almost zero of the cheap Chinese androids include it and they are very popular on OzBargain

        • @Japius:

I thought the lions share of Voda's 4G bandwidth was in the 1800 band? My understanding is all they're doing on 850 is refarming existing 3G to 4G, which isnt very much so even if you do get on it, it wouldnt be all that quick anyway.

        • @BargainKen:

I find even here in Brisbane that when I use a handset without B5 I am ok outside in the CBD but as soon as I go into my office for example I lose 4G. In my handsets with B5 I get a consistent 4G signal

        • @Japius:

Signal's all well and good but how well it performs is another story. When you dont have much bandwidth in the more premium frequencies its not all that great. It would perform better then 3G would in that band, but not near as good as their 1800 for higher bandwidth applications. Remember 4G is data only for now (till VoLTE is used more widely). What sort of speeds do you get on the 850 band (speedtest etc)?

  • +2

Can I buy $2 sim starter kits from Coles/woollies and recharge to get this offer?

  • BARGAIN
$60 for a year mobile plan, data only though that's all you need (use VoIP).
    $125/year if you need > 2 GB/month
I'd jump on this if I didn't still have 180 GB of data on my Telstra prepaid SIMs.

    • How did you end up with 180Gb on Telstra prepaid?

      • +3

Looks like you missed the boat. It doesn't work now but until a couple months ago you could get 1 GB of data for 25c by SMSing credit me to you.

  • I have a prepaid vodafone number i activated a week ago (with the 8Gb of data on $40 starter pack). You can't seem to recharge with $125 for 52.5Gb… it comes up when you log in online, but then you click recharge then it brings you back to normal voice plans… do you need to maybe change your service (some how) to mobile broadband as opposed to a voice service?

    • Unless you want both, yeah A/C must be compatible with mobile broadband. Check for $9 USB modem at Coles.

  • can I buy Vodafone Prepaid USB Modem 3G
1/2 PRICE at coles for $9.00 and eligible for this offer?

  • I know it is mobile data but can I transfer my number?

    • if it's mobile data what difference does keeping your number make? (serious question)

      • When I was with Telstra, people could ring my number even though it was only for data usage. I could make calls but it got deducted from my data (via some calculation).

        • I believe all the newer Telstra MBB services have voice disabled now…

        • +1

          @BargainKen:
          Really?
I activated mine about 6 months ago and incoming calls still work.

        • @BargainKen:
I activated a Telstra MBB SIM on 10 Aug 2015 and I can phone it and talk. After I used up all the MBB data, I put it in an old Nokia dumbphone, and call it when my toddler wants to play "let's talk on the phone". Is it something that has been disabled recently?

        • @nickj:
So I heard, I havent activated a MBB in a while since all the good offers were on the freedom+. I too have MBB sim from August that can receive calls. The next SIM i activate will be MBB (since the freedom+ offer isnt as appealing) and confirm.

      • I don't wish to lose my number and try to use voip for phone calls. Receiving calls on voip is still not the best. I assumed I could use this in a phone…

    • Still would like to know please if I can transfer my number?

  • +3

u can buy recharge voucher from coles, then it will 50Gb for 93.75,$1.875 per GB, also u can buy usb stcik from coles for $9, or use the smart first phone code before to buy Vodafone pocket wifi with half price.

    • is this confirmed it will work? ie buy coles voucher at discount and go online and recharge with that code.

      • voucher bought from coles works.online chat confirmed.

      • +1

i just bought usb moderm and voucher from coles. i will let u konw when i set all things up successfully.

        • does it work?

        • +1

@dtjan01: i have difficulity in setting up the device, computer cant detect usb modem. a pain in the ass!!

    • what voucher is this from coles? why $93.75?

      • It was this week Coles promotion on Vodafone recharge voucher. 25% off
