I don't know what i was doing, but i randomly came across this fantastic deal this morning. At this price, it's cheaper than most plans.

Apparently it has been going on since the start of this month (judging by the activation period), so I'm kinda surprised this hasn't been posted yet.

  2. You need to recharge online via Express recharge or through the MY Vodafone app to receive the 10% bonus data, refer to the link for more details
  3. For those who aren't familiar with pre-paid mobile broadband, you need a data/mobile broadband sim. Regular phone sims have different recharge offers.

    What a confusing thread.
Surely someone could put it into plain english for newbies.
The references to Telstra are doing my head in - lol

Am I right in thinking to take advantage of this deal, I need to start a new sim service before the 3rd of next month?
    Say a Coles modem?

And then I have to "recharge" online?

    this and/or anything else?

    • +2

New prepaid mobile sim. People have confirmed the sims coming with cheap modem will work. Need to activate before march deadline.

Recharges seemingly can be done online ( you get the bonus 10 % data if u do so). Or use coles voucher (25% off voda recharges currently)

Havent seen anyone confirm buying a $2 sim from coles and using those will work with offer.

      • Thanks heaps!

  • 8.4gb $30 30 days $3.57/GB
    12.6gb $40 40 days $3.17/GB
    16.8gb $50 180 days $2.97/GB
    21gb $60 365 days $2.85/GB
    52.5gb $125 365 days $2.38/GB

    Close to the $40 = $750 = 16100MB via favourites packs offer @ $2.40/GB.

    • Wouldnt it be better than doing the favourites pack offer? I mean definitely in the 52.5Gb case, but you save how much time not having to navigate all those menus?

      • scripts.

      • +1

        AutomateIt.

Plus the old favourites/cap family has no $2/MB gotcha (Cf. 365 days addons cap) and full voice functionality a perk over simple broadband. Worth holding onto that.

However, provided we're resourceful/careful, anyone can burn up 26000MB at $11.90 or $20 now.
        $3/2GB/~2days Max.

        • 26000MB for $11.90 or $20? 13 x 2GB packs?

Yes in my case bonus V2V talk too, staff simply activate $40 ($20) starter combo pack under 365 Day long life offer.

$30 Sim + they tack on $20 ($10 x2) for recharge pins I gave them to add as well.

        • @daver: How have the addon's been updated?

        • @Jules66:

srsly < 2Ggb is great?: It should be the closest thing to a data glitch running at the moment; $0.87/350MB =2013 outdated.
+ addon 2015 as highlighted can be bought beautifully from recharge balance (won't be the DC charged 3 dollars) not excluding combo sims sourced for nearly nothing.

add +$5 and a voice function (100min) to fall back to, used as a phone.

Bit of tech savvy required fwiw. Apply data switch OFF / LIMIT function in Android — pretty straight forward, besides a better expiry contrasted to others strict 24h/0.5GB.
U/SIM broadband MBB for others not so aware of [$35]80GB.

  • I went to Coles today to grab a SIM and they didn't know which one was for Prepaid Broadband, after calling Voda tonight they state it must be a "MBB" SIM of which my local Coles had none and was told to go to Vodafone Store and purchase for $2

    • Not convinced Coles actually has any mobile broadband sims for sale aside from the ones that come with usb modems — anyone confirm this? (i ended up getting $2 mbb from a voda store myself)

      • I bought one from Coles the other day

    • You could order it online as well here is the link http://www.vodafone.com.au/personal/mobile-broadband/prepaid

    • +3

Just want to let people know.
The $2 starter sim card works if it's the new "Unisim" card.
The older sim card will only work for it's purpose - Voice or MBB.

You can tell the difference from the Activation key.

if it starts with 'U' then it's the newer Unisim that you can activate as a mobile broadband or prepaid phone.
If it's starts with 'V' then it's the older one and only works as prepaid voice unless it's a MBB one.

      Confirmed with vodafone rep.

      • +5

I had a $40 starter pack still from the $2 DSE sale a couple of months ago. The sim started with a V meaning it was for a phone and not mbb.

The rep told me to go and get a $2 sim and they would transfer over the $40 and put it towards the $60 10GB 365 day plan. I got a $20 voucher at the same time.

Vodafone called me back and swapped all the info across and now I have an active 365 MBB sim. All ended up being pretty straight forward.

        • Was your $40 starter pack the mobile combo?

Sounds like a great way to leverage value out of it.

      • Thanks. thats very very useful to know :)

Coles has 3G USB dongles for $9 this week, including 1.5Gb in 30 days.

*from the third post by mskeggs

  • +1

anyone bought the 3g usb dongle from coles, it was really difficulty to set up, computer can't detect it after software has been installed. i don't know it is only me or a common problem for this device?

    • Did you try to restart the computer?. All it does is install the drivers & software required from usb stick. There should be one if not two vodafone related icons/software on your computer if it installed properly (been a while since i installed my stick…)

      • i tried everything, still failed to set up the device. Finally, i got a pocket wifi from my friend.

    • I'm on mac. Had masses of problems, gave up in the end and sent it back

      • i gave up too, but used the sim card with a pocket wifi finally.

  • Can you advise if the sim is 3G or 4g please

    • +1

The sim can be either either, it all depends on the device it is in.

If its in a 3g only device you only have 3g.

If the device does 3g and 4g on voda bands [eg 850mhz] the device will select the best mode and you get 4g automatically if the 4g signal is better.

      • Thanks grog
What I meant is, the data we are buying, is it 3G or 4g. Ie if used in an iPad 4 or higher iPad

        • +1

          Data is just data.

If the ipad 4 or higher has 4G capabilities and has voda bands [eg 850mhz or 1800mhz etc], and you select 4g in settings, you will get 4g if you are within a voda 4g cell tower area.

If you select 3g in settings you will get 3g.

Check in settings of your device to see if 4g is listed in the "enable data" or whatever its called section.

  • Hi Guys, would you recommend a "Vodafone Pocket WiFi® 4G Starter Pack" to be permanently hooked up to power, in my car?
(This will then be connected to a Wifi Dash Cam, so i'll have access remotely to my car)
    Would then purchase - 52.5gb - $125 - 365 days

  • +1

The number of votes make me feel like this is an awesome deal, but I am finding this incredibly confusing to follow. Hope I'm not the only one. I've tried reading through the comments too. Still confused lol.

    • +5

If you're in an area with good Vodafone coverage, preferably 4G, then the advertised offer is pretty good. It's roughly $3 per GB, with a 6-12 month plan expiry.

You need to activate a new Vodafone broadband sim and - for best value - buy a 25% off broadband recharge voucher from Coles. Activate the voucher online for the bonus, and make sure you activate the sim before the date specified.

As mentioned, Vodafone shops are selling half-price 4G/3G modems for $39.50 (it's an R216).

Example: buy a $2 broadband sim, buy a $60 broadband recharge voucher at Coles for $45, activate online and you'll have 21GB of data good for 365 days. If you pay with a Coles gift card, take another 5% off.

      But check your coverage!!!!!

      • Thank you! What does "activate the voucher" mean? I buy a voucher and then how to activate it? Also, can I buy Coles gift card and right away buy the 60 voucher for 45? Can I do the same for the 52.5GB deal? One recharge, multiple? Thanks very much!

        • +2

Here's Vodafone's mobile broadband offer (double data, etc). http://www.vodafone.com.au/personal/mobile-broadband/recharg…

Assuming you've just activated a new mbb sim, choose the plan then click recharge. If you bought a $60 voucher, say, then enter the voucher details.

Buy a $60 Vodafone broadband recharge voucher for $45 at Coles with the current Vodafone 25% discount.

Read the other posts and comply with dates, etc.

        • @tassie Pete: Thanks mate, much appreciated!

  • +1

Update: Feb 26 2016 friday New Info : Will suit new customers…

New terms for this deal……… activate new MBB prepaid until may 31 2016 and get double data on first 3 recharges until september 31st 2016

    New Customers… repeat new customers..

Read the terms and conditions and the critical information summary

    http://www.vodafone.com.au/personal/mobile-broadband/recharg…

Right now, we have an exciting double data offer for new customers. Activate your Mobile Broadband SIM between 1 February 2016 and 31 May 2016 and you'll receive double data in Australia on your first 3 Prepaid recharges of $30 and above made before 30 September 2016. T&C apply.

    • 'New Customers… repeat new customers..'

      Now you've made me curious.

Is a new customer someone who activates a new sim? What if you've already been a Vodafone customer but the old sim has expired, or the old sim is still active but not been recharged? Are you a 'new customer' if you get a new sim and activate that?

      • +1

Hazard to guess a new sim activation

  • Good questions and replies, I was wondering if they would still work with phones,

    Excellent for dual sim.

Now to wait for the dual sim samsung 7 edge

  • Has anyone actually received the double data yet? How long did it take to update your account?

    • Did you activate or recharge?

      • +2

Activated a couple of hours ago, then recharged from there. Just did $10 to test. Does say up to 72 hours…

        • It's got to be a recharge of $30 or more to get the double data. Probably why it hasn't gone through yet as below.

        • @f1ng3rs: cheers man, should read the instructions more closely. Grabbed 52gb this arvo.

    • I got a $9 dongle from Coles along with $60 credit for $45. I set it up and then recharged yesterday and it seems to have updated with the extra 10GB today meaning it took about 24 hours.

      • Hmmm…..still nothing on mine.

  • +1

Thanks heaps, OP. I was just about to switch to Optus Prepaid Broadband, but Vodafone have obviously hit back with a better deal.

  • Thanks for the heads up! Just purchased the Pocket WiFi 4G R216 for half price ($39.50) which comes with a 4gb starter pack, got it activated in the store. Checked online when I got home and only had 4gb, spoke to Vodafone through online chat and was told that the bonus data would be added on within 24 hours. So I guess we'll see what happens. Will keep you posted.

    • its been 24hr, still haven't got the bonus data.. what you got yours yet?

      • Hey, just checked my account and have 3.88GB recharge data and 3.91GB Bonus Data. Didn't get added until today by the looks of it though.

    • Any one know whether it came unlocked or is it locked to Vodafone?

  • +1

I've brought the pocket wifi, can anyone point me to the coles recharge voucher deal, I'm looking for something I can show the store as I've found they generally have no idea

  • +3

Does it work for old customer? Yes as long as you buy a new sim within the specified period. I have and old "grandfathered" post paid phone plan of $10/month, so you can guess how long I've been with Vodafone. I also have separate old 4G pocket wifi (R215) and I can use the new Vodafone sim and receive the bonus.

Does it come with double data bonus + Online recharge bonus? Yes, you will receive the bonus like this screenshot.

  • So confused😩

Can this work: for $60 recharge

    1) buy $2 MBB sim from here or from store

    2) activate the SIM card using one of the Vodafone dongle

    3) buy $60 recharge voucher (25%off) from Coles

    4) Register the SIM card number to my Vodafone APP and recharge the sim using the voucher

By doing the above, will I get

    10gb data for 365 days
    10+1=11gb data for 365 days
10+10=20 gab data for 365 days
    10+1+10=20gb data for 365 days

  • I did the Coles top-up but ended up saving $7.50 and I'm not sure it was worth the hassle.

Bought a SIM at Vodafone store and activated in-store.

Coles only have $50 (and below) and $70 and I wasn't sure I could use multiple recharges to get 365 day expiry so I just bought a $70 recharge for $52.50.

Voucher code didn't work online so I had to call. They were able to apply $60 (with double data) + $10 manually to get 21GB for 365 days still.

I can't even register to see usage etc. as it is an iPad so can't receive text messages (the call centre suggested I transfer it to a phone but even when I did that no text message came through, so I gave up and will just use in-built metering).

Anyway. everything works and they tell me I have my data but it was probably more time and frustration than it was worth. Knowing all this I might well have just done an online recharge.

    • +2

You don't need to register to be able to see your usage and balance etc.

As long as you are connected via the vodafone simcard just go to https://myaccount.myvodafone.com.au/ and you'll see all the stats there.

    • FWIW Coles normally has the $60 recharge. What i have found - and it does happen (did to me), Coles CAN run out of a given voucher at times. You might end put paying for X and get printed Y voucher. as in your case you have to call and query Voda (Coles chick told me to do this) - voda will correct the plan you chose on their system.

  • +1

I am also confused somewhat!! can someone clarify if it will be possible for me to switch to Voda for this to get data and voip and somehow retain my existing mobile number for incoming texts etc? I currently have an old Pennytel number I could use as voip or is there a better option.

    Many thanks

  • I am right in understanding the most I can recharge is the 50gb?

  • Those who received bonus 1GB for recharging $60, did you do it with the voucher from Coles? I recharged with the discounted voucher but did not get the 1GB. Spoken to Vodafone and was told the 10% bonus data only applied to recharge done through credit card or PayPal.

  • So whats the best way for the 52.5gb? I have a $40 combo starter pack sim on hand and can go to coles tonight to buy the recharge voucher.

Trying to minimise the net spend. Thanks :)

    • Coles deal not on anymore, i.e. 25% off.

      • I passed as well, but activated a MBB sim anyway for whenever the voda 25%/20% off should come up again

        • So can activate this without topping up?

        • @dealsniper:
"The double data only applies to sims activated between 1/2/16 - 31/5/16 and only for the first 3 recharge within the offer period."

  • How is Vodafone signal in blacktown?

  • So I went out a purchased a $2 Sim today

I followed the link provided by OP

Do I select Combo for the Prepaid to get my Double Bonus Data?

Does it work on the first recharge?

    • +3

So I will reply to myself because this is the BS I had to deal with that is Vodaphone….so as above I have my $2 SIM. I activate it on my mobile and get given 13GB for $60 with an expiry of 28 days. I call Vodaphone who tell me this deal is only available on their Mobile Broadband Sims. So I go back to Vodafail (2 hour bus ride) only to be given the wrong Sim Card which won't fit my phone. This is after sitting on hold for 17 minutes. Seriously thinking of taking the 13GB and running because this has been a freaken waste of time

      • The other way to improve is for the post to put in bold "this deal doesn't work with normal (voice) vodaphone sims". Separating voice sim and MBB sim deals is a practise by many companies, including Telstra. MBB sims defaults to a different size than voice sims, this, also happen to other companies.

  • +1

Can this be also be used as a regular sim to make and receive calls?

    • HAs a number attached so cant see why not. Someone mentioned they can receive calls… unconfirmed

  • is this still active .. can you still get 52.5GB (365 Days Expiry) ?

    • Looks like yes, from my reading of the terms. You need a new broadband sim, registered before the end of May to qualify.

  • is coles or woolworths still offering % off deals with recharges?

    • Need to check.coles and woolies tend to do it one after another once every few weeks. Rotates with telstra and optus offers

  • So cant recharge once accumulated data hits 50gb. Does the rest sit on account and expires at same time of most recent recharge?

  • So can someone help me clarify this, can the MBB sim cards be used with an android phone with dualsim capabilities or just MBB devices? If I can put it into my phone, what is the cheapest MBB sim card that allows me to recharge the $60 plan? Thanks

  • +1

Yep have it in my dual sim phone with data only.. $2 mbb sim from Vodafone shop

    • Thanks for the prompt response, I'm gonna try it out!

  • Should the deal's expiry day be updated to 30/09/2016?

Double data recharging can be made on or before that date. From the landing page: "You'll receive double data in Australia on your first 3 Prepaid recharges of $30 and above made before 30 September 2016."

    • +1

Deal ends today as you need to activate your MBB sim from 1st Feb to 31st May to be eligible for the double data bonus.

Also for those curious about the data stacking.
Had 25GB on main and about 8GB on bonus, recharged another $125 and now have 50GB on main and bonus is about 35.5GB so it looks like it has already exceeded the 50GB limitation but I'm not sure if that 50GB limit only applies to the main data excluding the bonus.
