Brisbane-Tokyo in Business Class Return - 48,000 Points (+ Taxes) @ Qantas

811

A glitch with the Qantas website… BNE-NRT flights are going for 24,000 QF points one-way in business class (plus taxes). It's usually more than double that.

    • QAN announced they are due to release WIFI enabled planes for their fleet.
      So yes, soon

      • Only on domestic flights.

  • Oh dam pitty I have alot of velocity points slowly also getting Qantas points also

  • Is it really a glitch or u just jks?

  • Pity I'm not in Brisbane but good find!

  • its usually 81k points..

  • FWIW: Business seats are far and few between. I am considering booking business one way, and economy return.
    24k + 12k in points, plus $263 + $150 in fees = 36k points and ~$410. Plus ~ $100 each way from my city to BNE.

So ~ $600 return, with one leg in Business.

    • its a pity you cant do points and pay, im looking for flights to tokyo now

it only lets you if you have 24,000 points sitting there and i spent mine last trip

        • maximum 20,000 points per purchase.

        • has anyone tried to buy >15% of the points difference? it says as a condition, but at the end of the day- I don't know how they could tell whether or not you've purchased points

      • Need Qantas points?Go to the Forum Classifieds section and find an Ozbargain member to deal with.

Think the points have been update because it now cost 96k points for a return leg from BNE-NRT between July 30 - Aug 21

    • +1

Negative - Deal is still active.
(I think I bought the last two reward tickets for those dates… I should have crossed them off the list!)

      Proof:
Do a standard (as though you will pay with cash) search for:

      Brisbane to Tokyo return
      Depart Wed 27 Jul 16
      Return Mon 22 Aug 16
      Travel Class Business

As there is a reward seat available, you'll see the cheaper price there.
(To be clear, Do NOT search for 'classic flight rewards'. You'll get the standard points (I'm seeing ~120k for business return on 27JUL-22AUG)).

It is frustrating as Fcuk having to go through the standard search for every day you are interested in.
Again, do not use the 'classic reward search' and do not be fooled by other legs having the reward points. It is only QF61 and QF62 which appears to work.

      • +1

I tried what you suggested for the dates that I mentioned and got a whopping 655,000 points return from BNE-NRT-BNE

      • Do we get status credit and points for reward ticket?

        • Not for Classic Rewards

  • Lucky Easterners who always get the cheap flights. I wonder when Westerners will have a bargain seat sale anywhere on a Business class

    • +1

I guess when the 'Western side' becomes closer then the 'Eastern side' (in distance) to these countries that go on Sale…

  • I'm guessing it doesn't apply for other states? Melbourne in particular?

    • No :(

I will make two seperate bookings.
This deal. 48k points + $500 in fees for a return business seat from BNE <-> NRT.
Then a standard economy booking for ~$100 each way MEL <-> BNE. There are a couple of options available and timing works well.

      • +1

I would have done the same but I've just checked some of your dates and it's coming up unavailable or for 120k points return.

        Looks like they've caught on.

  • How much is the tax? I am not familiar with Qantas points but I do have enough. thanks

  • -4

Can these be cancelled due to change of mind?

  • +1

    I can't find any bookings?

  • Thanks, still there, booked 5 min ago, confirmation through

  • I looked at everything within a 4 month period, no dice?

  • search as BluBoy suggests.

    • minimum I can find is 460,000

  • Awesome deal. Nice first post ;)

  • +1

Awesome, we got return flights during the school holidays for 96k points and $1180, Kids are going to Disneyland!

    Thanks OP!

  • Dammit not enough points!

  • Can only find flights that connect via cairns with jetstar?

  • Use the dates that's given by bluboy on the Qantas website. Takes a bit of fiddling around but it works

  • Looks to only be dates months into the future, and if you're wanting to go for at least 2 weeks. Anyone able to find any dates within the next few weeks at all?

  • +1

damn so no love for sydney?

  • Willing to pay to fly Bris just to take the business seat but not enough points… never flown in business in my life time !!

  • sorry noob here, is the economy (12k pts each way) a good deal too? or is it just the 24k pts business? Thanks

    • +2

12k pts Economy each way is awesome too, but generally speaking people consider using points on business class to be preferable because the points cost is "only" double whereas if you were to pay for the flights with cash it's likely to be 5-6 times the price.

Each to their own - it depends on what you value.

For context, SYD-MEL is normally 8k points one way in economy, 16k in business (+ ~$32 tax)

Another very important thing to keep in mind is that all these points costs do not include/cover taxes. You always have to pay for taxes.

      • thanks mate, I would like to book economy Syd->NRT return, should I book Syd-> BNE then BNE -> NRT return? Or can I just book Syd -> NRT return?

        • To take advantage of this glitch, you'll have to book via BNE. It seems like this fare is only applying to BNE-NRT direct, so as long as you route via BNE you should get this fare.

SYD-NRT is at its normal price.

    • 12k points is terrific value flying Qantas to Tokyo too.

Business gives you the best bang for your buck always, but we have a 3 year old and 5 year old, so we would be wasting points and money on them (and my air berlin gold card expires in July so had to make the most of business lounge).

Next time I use points, I'll be looking for a similar business deal.

      Cheers

  • +1

it's 40,000 points from Sydney, so just adding the normal 16,000 points for SYD to BNE business fare.

    • Just to clarify, it's 40k pts from SYD via BNE. SYD-NRT direct is still the usual price (72k pts?)

  • damn, just spent 68,000 points on the same route. Now, I have not enough points.

  • +1

Can't find anything for May or am I looking at it wrong, anyone have any luck? Prices seem to be 300k+ points for one person.

    • Some daays have business reward which is 60k

      • Oh right so I look for the business reward days…

But they fixed the glitch anyway haha.

  • It seems that they fix the glitch.. 60k points on 27 July

    • yes seems to have just changed, was still pricing at 24,000 after 12pm.

  • +1

Yeap they fixed it. Dang a missed opportunity.

  • Super hot tamputure to travel to Japan during July! Nice deal!!

  • +2

Just got a call from QFF saying there was a glitch and that they are cancelling the booking and refunding the points unless I am ok being charged the actual rate. Ended up cancelling. BTW it never went to ticketing so I suspect others who haven't been ticketed will be getting calls too.

Many years ago I had an itinerary price at 0 points -similar to this a glitch on QF website, I booked it but the actual number of points that got charged was the full rate (about 290k). So don't get your hopes too up.

    • That's a shame. I haven't received a call yet.

    • What time did you book?

I have received tickets (and even selected seats etc). No phone call from them yet…

      • Booked around noon. So you received the etickets? I only got a confirmation email, no eticket.

        Got the call around 3:15.

    • I received tickets too and no call. Booked at 11am.

  • Good on you guys, whoever managed to get the tickets. Well done!

  • Got tickets booked around 11am

Now to work out how to get to Qld!

  • -1

Bad call Qantas. Honour the deal.

  • Anyone managed to keep the ticket?

    • Think most people who commented here and booked were ok except the negger. Otherwise I'm sure we'd have many more of the others who booked and responded positively come back and backtrack and their positive response.
