ANZ FF/Rewards Black CC 75k QF/Rewards Pts ($2,500 Spend 3mths) + $0 First Year

930

You know those AMEX Statement deals you see posted here sometimes where you can get WISH gift cards for more than 5% off? Here's a card that's free for the first year with an awesome bonus points offer which you could use to get some of those offers!

Previously posted here with an expiry date of 27 Feb (3 hours ago). This has simply been extended, and appears to have no specified end date.

This covers both the ANZ Rewards and ANZ Frequent Flyer range of cards (not sure about the previous deal?), which is great. From some of the ANZ deals posted last year, some users reported applying for both and getting the bonus points for both. If you can do that, great!

For context, 75k Qantas Points can get you a one-way Business class fare (excl. taxes) to destinations like Singapore, Hong Kong.

75k Rewards Points can be converted to 37.5k Velocity Points (2:1), which can then be converted to 27777 KrisFlyer Miles through Velocity (as opposed to converting direct from ANZ Rewards to KrisFlyer, which would net you 25000 KrisFlyer Miles).

Summary of the cards that are part of the offer:

  • ANZ Rewards Black: 75k Rewards Points w/ $2.5k spend within 3 months. AMEX Earn Rate: 3pts/$. Visa Earn Rate: 2pts/$. Annual Fee: $375
  • ANZ Rewards Platinum: 50k Rewards Points w/ $2.5k spend within 3 months. AMEX Earn Rate: 3pts/$. Visa Earn Rate: 1.5pts/$. Annual Fee: $149
  • ANZ Rewards: 25k Reward Points w/ $2.5k spend within 3 months. AMEX Earn Rate: 2pts/$. Visa Earn Rate: 1.5pts/$. Annual Fee: $89
  • ANZ Frequent Flyer Black: 75k QF Points w/ $2.5k spend within 3 months. AMEX Earn Rate: 1.5pts/$. Visa Earn Rate: 1pts/$. Annual Fee: $425
  • ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum: 50k QF Points w/ $2.5k spend within 3 months. AMEX Earn Rate: 1.5pts/$. Visa Earn Rate: 0.5pts/$. Annual Fee: $295
  • ANZ Frequent Flyer: 25k QF Points w/ $2.5k spend within 3 months. AMEX Earn Rate: 1pt/$. Visa Earn Rate: 0.5pts/$. Annual Fee: $95

Note that the annual fee does not apply in the first year as it is waived as part of this promotion.

Apply for the highest card you're eligible for, as the bonus points on offer are higher, you get a higher earn rate on spend, and in the case of the black, you'll get unlimited lounge access to certain branded overseas lounges.

Conditions (for the Black cards):

  • Be 18 years of age or over
  • Have a good credit rating
  • Be a permanent Australian resident, earning a minimum annual income of $75,000
  • Be a non-Australian permanent resident with more than 9 months remaining on your Visa, earning a minimum annual income of $75,000
  • To be eligible for the bonus points, you cannot have held this card in the last 12 months, else you will be ineligible for the bonus points component of the card

Other questions/tips/tricks:

  • In my opinion, the 75k QF points > 75k Rewards points. However, the ongoing earn rate on the ANZ Rewards cards are better, due to (imo) the superior nature of the rewards program. It is flexible and can be converted to Asia Miles, KrisFlyer, Air NZ Dollars or Velocity. Velocity sometimes do promotions where you get an additional 15% Velocity points when you transfer your points. Essentially the earn rate on the ANZ Black Rewards is 1.5 Velocity points whilst the ANZ QFF Black is 1.5 QF points. However, in my view, considering the opportunity for promotional sweeps from programs into Velocity, ANZ Rewards Black offers the better earn rate.
  • The 12 months limitation (ineligibility for bonus points) is indeed applied/enforced with ANZ, unlike direct AMEX issued cards.
  • The earn/transfer rate of cards is expected to drop in the coming months due to the recent decision made by RBA to limit the surcharges that merchants can pass onto consumers. Several banks have already reduced the earn rate/transfer rate (Citibank).
  • You can apply for both an ANZ Rewards card and an ANZ Frequent Flyer card and get the bonuses on both.
  • I have heard from others anecdotal experiences that you can also even apply for an ANZ Rewards Black and ANZ Rewards Platinum (for example) and get the bonuses for both, despite both cards being from the same "series". i.e. in that case, you would get 125k Rewards points bonus.

  • Cards finally arrived! After making a purchase, how long do I have until I have to start paying interest? Does it depend on a fixed number of days or does it depend on proximity to end of month? For example if I made a purchase on the 20th April, what is the latest date I can repay the balance, interest free?

    • It'll be 25 days post statement date. You'll have to check with ANZ what your statement period is.

  • i would like to know if paying your ATO bill is considered an 'eligible purchase' too as im a bit short on the 2.5k spend? not sure if i should risk not getting the 75k points if ato payments are now not considered an 'eligible purchase'. i know anz changed the terms recently saying no points for ato payments after 27th jan but i did a test payment to the ato of $100 after the cut off date and still got points.

    • can anyone shed some light?
    • ATO payment is considered an 'eligible purchase'. Pretty much anything non-gambling related is eligible.

  • Will online purchases (e.g. Woolworths online store) accrue QFF points or just in-store?

  • How many $ worth of Myers gift cards can you get for 75k points?

Someone said $700 plus but looks like $320 to me.

    • 75k Qantas points should be about $450. 75k ANZ points a lot less.

  • +5

Oh, today is a glorious day. Got my 50k points deposited in to my account. This is the second time I have redeemed this offer.

Thanks for paying for $300 worth of my groceries and fuel, ANZ.

(I will be closing my account again due to ANZ being a bad bank).

  • How long can i expect the points to be deposited into my account?
