I am just wondering why Moto X is cheaper ….

That is Moto E not X, X is the high end model, make me happy for a minute.

    • i know how you felt!

      • Oops wrong letter in the title, thanks fixed.

        • Got me so excited for a minute

  • +2

please change the description to moto e and not moto x because 2 completely different phones, got me excited for a sec

    • -1

      I feel empathy for you

  • Wbat's the difference between this Moto G XT1550 and Kogan's offering XT1541 which is cheaper at $261.99?

    • +2

TGG's Xt1550 is the dual sim, 16GB version
I think kogans version is 8GB.

      • This also supports AU LTE bands unlike Kogans.

      • Xt1550: does it support 3G on both sims? Or is it 2G only on the second sim?

        • Don't actually own the phone myself (bought it for my uncle) maybe someone else can answer?

        • @wakkawalla: No worries. Only 2G would work on the second SIM.

    • +3

This one is 2G ram/16G storage and local stock, Kogan one is 1G ram /8G storage and grey import.
This one is better. Also if you upgrade to Marshmallow, it will take roughly 5G storage which will left you around 3G only for data and apps if you buy Kogan one.

    • +1

xt1541 is single sim - HK version
      xt1550 is dual sim - Australia/India/Europe version

    • XT1550 has better compatibility with all Australian 4G and Telstra 3G.

  • Thanks OP, just ordered one for dad.

  • Any other good deals on phones, particularly models that do 700 and/or 1900mhz (to be used in the US on holiday)?

  • +3

This is a great phone. Not so great for gaming but for everything else brilliant. I generally get 2 days battery with doze on MM, and great 4G coverage on Optus networks and Telstra networks. In one SIM I have Amaysim for calls etc. and in the other a Telstra prepaid long life that I turn on and off for streaming NRL from the Digital Pass deal. I can recommend this tempered glass screen protector and this case.

My only annoyance with this phone is that fast tapping on the keyboard results in inaccuracies on occasion. Otherwise almost perfect (IMO) for $270.

  • I personally think the Moto G 3rd gen is the best budget phone you can buy. Pure android, SD card, I think it's also waterproof?

    • Grey imports (not Kogan, etc - think chinatown dealers) of the Moto X around $350. Not exacly apples and apples, but, IMO, that seems to be a better buy.

      • You mean the X Play (which is what I currently use)? I see that as 450+ on google.
I'd rather have a 3rd gen G than the 2014 X for future proofing (X 2014 (2nd gen) released like a year later in Australia, so specs are old and will likely lose support for updates soon).

The other big issue with grey imports is that you don't usually get all the right frequencies for Australia and things like your 4G speeds can be significantly effected, especially in certain areas.

    • Bit of a shame there's no NFC, but otherwise yeah doesn't really get better than this.

      • What do you use NFC for in Australia?

        • commbank paywave,
          automation etc

        • I use NFC a lot as well, especially for not carrying card banks with me. I pay with the NFC.
I wouldn't purchase a phone without the NFC now …

        • Only CBA has NFC, right?

        • @sp00ker:
CBA and NAB. (I'm with both of them).

        • @zapy:
          Westpac has WestpacPay as well.

        • To read the Opal card balance and other details.

        • +1

@zapy: All the big 4 have it. Although NAB's only does debit card.

        • While on this NFC topic, I literally forgot to bring my wallet this morning, and I used LG Nexus 4 (yes an old phone and I should start looking for newer model) cba pay wave NFC to pay for my groceries… Feeling so proud when paying it in the self check out… Haha

        • @venu: NAB's NFC payment option is fairly new, it's been less than 6 months at the very least. I assume they'd add features in soon.

        • A killer NFC payment app would let you load all your card (from any bank) and figure out the merchant (based your location) and suggest which card to use to maximise the points (or other benefits, eg free wine bottle at restaurant or bonus cashback, etc).

        • @sp00ker: It'd be hard, since having bonuses for using the service would mean they'd need to charge someone for it and that makes banks to participate less. From what I've seen, most "Pay" services negotiate with banks to have them being available in their service, so yeah. Also, I think with that kind of service, you'd have concerns with security.

Probably either Apple Pay or Samsung Pay would eventually become something like that. I've heard about LG Pay, but it requires seperate physical card that you need to charge, so I guess it's slightly different from other mobile "Pay" services. Apple Pay I've heard from someone who owns fair bit of Apple products only support AMEX bank in Australia. Samsung Pay, while it does fair bit of what you said in Korea (i.e. Allowing users to get points for using the card, being able to use most of the major banks in Korea), it's not even available in Australia and nobody knows how much of that would come to Australia (given the differences in law and everything).

        • @Oversimplified: True but so is ANZ, who released their app only a month ago. Don't understand why NAB are the only ones to not support credit cards.

        • @venu: Because their bank app is awful. At least I think it's worse than westpac one.

  • +1

I can vouch for both of these phones, they're fantastic, reliable, no frills, decent camera, stock Android with no nonsense. Excellent build quality.

  • if those phone support multi-language display such as Chinese?

    • yes

  • Looking at Motorolla Moto G 3rd Gen. In regards to memory cards. The specs say. microSD, up to 32 GB.

Just wondering if it will accept larger card sizes such as 64gb?

    • +1

      I'm using a 64GB currently.

    • My x play runs a 128, just google some forums and see what people are saying.

  • You are the best, needed to replace my Moto G 2nd Gen coz I'm an idiot and dropped it smashing the screen. What better then the 3rd Gen Moto G for just $270 :D

    • No problems. I was actually looking at this phone for My dad who also dropped his Moto G 2nd Gen and smashed the screen :p

  • I bought the G3 from the Good Guy's ebay store a couple months ago using a similar sale, albeit only 10% off, i managed to get it price matched at Officeworks who did a 5% price beat.

That should bring the price of this G3 down to $255.36.

Bit annoyed i didn't wait but hopefully someone else can make the most of this :)

  • bought this from TGG a few months back for the missus.. Bang for buck, this phone (3rd Gen) is amazing… Pretty sure i paid $249 from memory.
Super snappy phone, no bloat. Ive i broke my Z3, id go and buy one.

  • My wife and I both have Moto E 2nd Gen, and reckoned them a bargain at $200, and this price is stunning.

  • Between this and the LG Leon for $69 I'd go for the LG. It's got a better camera, and the same Snapdragon 410 processor.

Unless near-stock UI is worth $200 more over the Leon, even the Buzz and Fit Smart are better value.

    • How does the Lg Leon have a better camera?

I have a leon and it's not a very smooth experience. I don't think it's as good as the Moto G 3rd Gen. Great deal for $69 though.

      • It's got 1GB RAM instead of 2GB so probably not as smooth. But my Moto G1 had a camera so bad, they might as well have left it out.

      • Sorry for my confusion…this does indeed have a much better camera than the previous Moto G devices

  • Caved in and bought one. Good timing as the LG G4 that I bought from Kogan Ebay during the June 2015 sale just stopped working. It just hung and after pulling out the battery and restarting, it keeps rebooting and then the screen goes blank.

Sending it back to Kogan. Not sure if it can be fixed but I brought it to a phone shop (fix station) and was told it probably can't be fixed. I've lost a chuck of photos since my last back up :(

  • Yummy marshmallow. Thanks OP.

  • Just bought one for the Mrs. Thanks OP.

  • These phones vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 2?

  • +1

Deal is still on - just bought one. Price was $369, now back to $336 (before discount to $268)

  • Anyone else having issues with purchasing this item?

Tried 5-6 times last night and this morning and after completing the PayPal checkout receive the message "Your payment is still processing" followed by an email from eBay about half an hour later that "We were not able to process your payment".

My PayPal account is fine as I used it last night on eBay for an item from a different seller.
Have contacted eBay, who said to contact PayPal. Contacted PayPal who said there is nothing wrong with my account and to contact GoodGuys which I've done via eBay messaging but no reply.

    • Quite a few people had that same issue yesterday on a different eBay listing, see here. Certainly seems an issue with PayPal, seems you'll need to keep trying and/or keep contacting them about it.

      • How long should you wait before you try again. I don't want to get charged twice and ended with twice as the number of phones.

        • I'm not too sure sorry, it didn't happen to me personally.

If it's still processing I guess it could still go through as reported by others, if not I'd try it again. You should be able to cancel any duplicate orders or return the item worse case scenario. The problem is of course the deal ends in less than 2 hours so if it's still processing after midnight you can't be sure eBay would fix it up if there is a problem, you would hope so.

        • @hamza23: Tried again and the same result. Disappointing from ebay.

        • +1

@mrmagoober: Ended up working. then got a failed email from the previous order…or vice versa can't be certain.

    • I did get the same initial message, but about 30 mins later I received the email that it had gone through.

      • Eventually one went through and processed this afternoon. Still received the message "Your payment is still processing" on check out but received an email from eBay about half an hour later that confirmed the order was successful.
