G1W-CB 1080p Black Stealth Capacitor Dashcam - USD $40.59 (~AUD $54.44) Shipped from everbuying.net

3121

Refer to my previous deal on the BlueSkySea version. These have basically become the unofficial standard for budget DashCams. Featuring an all-black stealth look so they're not as obvious to surrounding drivers (especially when rear mounted!) plus a capacitor instead of a battery these are great little DashCams and as long as you use a Samsung EVO MicroSD Card and follow the config below you will enjoy solid hassle-free performance. Buy one and cover the road ahead or buy two and cover the action ahead & behind! The cameras come with Power Supplies and Suction Cup mounts however there are loads of different solutions for wiring these up permanently and neatly so you wont even know they're there! Refer to my front & rear install pics from the previous deal. I have personally bought dozens & dozens of these (some plain, others 'BlueSkySea' branded) and have fitted them in cars for friends & family and have never had a DOA or a faulty unit and most have been in use for many many months now. Fingers crossed these will be the same :) Can't recommend them enough.

Note: These cams appear as $54.44 on the product link however if you've never shopped with 'EverBuying' before and register then confirm your email address & update your Avatar then you get a credit of 120 points. This is the equivalent of $3.22 so follow the instructions to claim those points to bring the price down to $51.22. As a new user you also get a 10%-off Coupon however it will only work with the original price so you'll end up paying more so best not to apply that for this purchase. Also, please be aware that paying via PayPal bumps that lower price back up to $53.13. Not sure why but I assume it's their OS currency fee and this may also happen with Credit Card payments. All very confusing but all in all these are still the cheapest I could find right now. The next closest is another $6 or more from an eBay seller. As per all Chinese sourced products please be patient as these will most likely take 3-4+ weeks to arrive.

Associated accessories (personally used & recommended!):

Best 'Hassle-Free' Config (personally used & recommended!):

1st Menu
Resolution - 1080FHD (lower res offers longer recording time but blurry footage)
Loop Recording - 3 Minutes (each to their own but smaller files are more stable)
WDR - On (close to pointless but slightly enhances low light recording)
Exposure - +0.0 (default but feel free to experiment with this)
Motion Detection - Off (can fill up your card with locked files when switched on)
Record Audio - On (up to you but may be handy to record indicator & horn sounds etc.)
Date Stamp - On (advisable)
Gsensor - Off (can fill up your card with locked files when switched on)

2nd Menu
Date/Time - Must change format to YY/MM/DD before setting date! Change back once set. May not stick first few times but check back and re-set after regular use.
Beep Sound - Off (can get annoying as makes sounds during bootup/shutdown)
Language - English
TV Mode - PAL (menu exits after setting this. Press ‘M’ twice to re-enter menu)
Frequency - 50 Hz
Screen Saver - 3 Minutes (best set short to avoid the distraction)
IR LED - Off (white LED on this model so this feature is pointless)
Car Plate - Use up/down arrows to scroll characters and ’M’ to progress. Press REC when finished to save data.
Format - Formats SD Card (not critical but good to do this every now & then)
Default Setting - Reverts to default settings if required. Not ideal.
Version - Software version Info.

Enjoy!

Cheers OP, ended up buying one as a backup for my original G1W-C which is still going strong in my car, but doesn't hurt to have a spare for this price!

  • Was happy with the way it arrived but on testing it and looking at the footage it's real blurry and not in focus, can't make out the cars license plate while it's stopped in front of you..
Anyone else got this issue and know if theres a fix?

    • +1

      Please confirm the following:
      1. Did you remove the protective plastic covering the lens?
      2. Could there be a fingerprint on the lens?
      3. Have you set it up to record in FullHD?
      4. If all yes to the above can you see number plates when you pause the playback?

      • 1: Yep:
2: Possibly, cleaned and will try again soon.
        3: Yep
4: Up close you can see them, but as the car gets about 2m in front its really blurry ~ both paused and playing

        • Hmm, interesting. You MAY have a faulty unit so please keep that in mind but all of mine allow easy number plate ID during playback, especially when paused. Still difficult to ID when the sun is blasting into the lens or at night of course but just during the day it should be A-OK.

        • @SteveAndBelle: Yeah im thinking its a faulty one, the old g1w-c ive got is way better quality. this one just looks like its out of focus all the time

        • @shapers: Bugger! That's got to be the first one I've heard of that hasn't been perfect out of the box. I wonder if it's just a semi-user fixable issue with the internal camera module?! You'll need to be happy to tinker but if not then you'll have to log a warranty return.

        • @SteveAndBelle: Yeah apparently you can open it up, break the small amount of glue and manually focus the lens, ill give this a shot and see how i go. Is the camera hard to open up?

        • @shapers: Nope, it just pulls apart like most other modern electronic devices. It's clipped well so it's a bit tricky to start but once you get going the rest pulls apart easily. No screws just to get into fiddle with the camera module, just carefully use a box cutter type blade or strong thin plastic 'something-or-other' and get it started that way. Once done it all snaps back perfectly as though you never had it open.

        • @SteveAndBelle: Awesome thanks :)
I uploaded a clip from today (After i cleaned the lens) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I25Uxqv4uko&feature=youtu.be
its that blurry before being converted and uploaded.. not a terrible blur but not near the quality it should be, true?

        • @shapers: Hmm. Hard to say because YouTube does add an amount of distortion, even if that is only a small amount. Looks OK but yeah it isn't picking up plates well enough. Maybe compare it to other G1W footage on YouTube?

        • +1

@SteveAndBelle: yeah I've compared it to dads G1W-c and it's not near the quality that one is, I'll see what everybuying reply with before messing with it. Appreciate your help SteveandBelle :)

        • @shapers: Ah cool. Good you can compare so easily. Sorry to hear you've got problems but please keep us posted, their OzBargain reputation is riding on it!

        • @SteveAndBelle: I'll keep you posted, thanks again :)

        • @SteveAndBelle: Just an update, they replied asking for the problem and a photo of the problem so i told them the right side is clear but the middle and left is quite blurry and sent them this and this and they replied with - "Dear Michael,

          Thank you for contacting Everbuying.

          For the item, it is 1080P (1920 x 1080),1440 x 1080,720P (1280 x 720),848 x 480.

We have checked with our QC team the picture. The screen is with normal Video Resolution.

Thanks for your understanding and support. "

          Not a good start haha

  • Not sure if anyone else has this issue..

I bought this previously from this deal.

It's generally been working ok - I'm planning to buy a Samsung EVO MicroSD to replace the microSD currently inside and amending all the menu options to all those recommended in the description (great write up btw).

However, I have noticed that it no longer seems to be working/recording. When I switch it on, it shows the preview screen as normal but has none of the indicators/text along the top and bottom that indicate the date/time, recording status, microphone being muted/unmuted etc. I then decided to try and eject the microSD and put it back in. As I unplug it, I can momentarily see all the text I expect to see along the top and bottom of the screen before the device switches off automatically. So then I try again and put it back in, turn it back on, but again it's just a plain preview and doesn't seem to be recording.

    Anyone experienced this issue before?

    • No sorry. All mine have been working fine… except for the time/date issue of course but that doesn't seem to affect many as they drive their cars every day.

  • @SteveAndBelle 1st of thanks for the deal and most importantly the steps to setup the unit. Received it yesterday and trialed out today with drive to and from work. The video quality etc are quite fine as you had pointed in your post and subsequent comments. But I have noticed few things, which concerns me.

Has any of you having similar issues?

    1. How long does the unit would stay powered on when disconnected/ car is switched off? Mine of course no sooner I turn the ignition off it turns itself off within a second it seems. I've noticed this during the initial start of the car. The unit powers up as it should be when turn on ignition to accessories. During the attempt to start the engine, power to all accessories gets cut off (which is to my understanding is normal in vehicles) and accessories get turned on back. But this unit doesn't get turned on, I had do power it on manually.

    2. The recording had stops after a while: I noticed this once so far and the recording looks to have stopped before I reached my destination. Shouldn't this continue recording unless car ignition is turned off.

Overall happy with the lil unit, but above things are somewhat discouraging.

    • +1

Yes. These particular cameras will go into shutdown ad soon as they detect the power is cut. It sounds like a strange issue with the way your car works. Sounds like it may have a longer delay than other cars which is sending the camera into a non-recoverable shutdown. You may need to hardwire it to a different circuit or something.

Yes it should continue recording until power is removed. What card are you using and have you formatted it in the camera?

      • +1

Thanks for you response. Purchased Samsung Evo card you had suggested and formatted it in the camera. Had another round of cruising with it today and the 2nd issue I had pointed looks to be no more. I'd have to come up with something to address the 1st issue, though. I'd wait for the DC-DC circuit and try to hardwire.

        • +1

Ahh excellent news. Yes, as per all devices that take a memory card it's always best to format the memory in the device itself for best performance. Cheers for the update but please keep the thread updated with your power findings too OK.

        • +1

@SteveAndBelle: Yeah, formatting the memory card on the device itself would enable format/ organize the card the way it expects which results in the best performance as you noted. Sure, I'll update once get 1st issue sorted out. Really appreciate all the extra effort apart from the original deal, thank you mate. Cheers!

  • good morning, my car cigarette lighter socket is not working, I do have a usb charger socket which I used it to charge my phone. does the dashcam work with usb charger? Thanks in advance.

    • +1

Yep, should be fine as long as it can supply more than 500mA. I've read that other people have powered theirs that way. You will need a USB to mini-USB cable.

  • arrived yesterday. works well. stationary pictures are crystal clear but motion blur can affect signs plates.
use a samsung evo 32gb card. works really well.
    turned off loop recording.
Wish I could set the screen saver shorter - 3 min is a long time when you're driving at night.
need to figure out how to remove the on-screen number plate

    • +1

Got mine too. Solid dash cam. Doesnt turning off loop recording mean you're gonna have to manually delete recordings?

      • Oh is that how it works? I see. I assumed it would just loop 4gb files. Evidently not.

        • It just writes over the oldest provided it isn't a protect file (you can protect files with a press of a button in the event something happens and you want to keep the recording).

        • @nonpop: What is that button? Cant find it in the manual.

  • Slightly cheaper now - http://www.everbuying.net/product957126.html (by a massive $2)

  • I purchased 2 cameras, one came early last week, still waiting for the other one. Are they shipped separately?

    • Not sure from these guys sorry. The last big batch I purchased last year seemed to come from all over the place in dribs & drabs so I'd say they sometimes come from different warehouses. Best to triple check your order and get in touch with them ASAP though as it may have been a genuine mistake.

  • G1W-CB 1080p Black Stealth Capacitor Dashcam - How can i turn off the display while recording. in older model, there was an option called Protection and you set up timings to turn off the screen but can not find any similar option here.. any help ?

    • 2nd menu, Screen Saver option. Minimum is 3 minutes so it will display for 3 minutes at bootup then go dark after that.

  • Anyone tried a 128gb SD card?

    • Not to my knowledge sorry. I have a 128Gb card but not a 'Samsung Evo' and didn't want to risk flaky performance during the trial because it would then be difficult to determine if it was the type or size of card at fault.

  • Any one known what the CAR PLATE setting is? For your own number plate?

    • Yes.

      • Thanks.
Is this for any particular purpose?

        • I suppose it's just another one of those extra things that may come in handy when making a claim or offering footage as a witness. Would be very handy from an insurers perspective if they end up with multiple files of dashcam footage too. Up to you to use it or not.

        • +1

          @SteveAndBelle:
          Thanks.
          wasn't quite sure.

Seems good from what I've used today.

  • Why is that when I add 1 to cart the price gone up to USD 53.40? but the actual item price on the page says USD 41.81? OP?

    • Not sure sorry, seems to work OK for me. Price is $41.81 on the product page and stays at $41.81 when in the cart.

    • Try again. Now US$39.99

  • +1

Got mine today only, works well, thanks OP.

  • +1

If anyone here is going to use this in a VE commodore be warned you will have to manually turn it on after cranking due to the cig lighter power being cut off for too long during cranking. No idea why it doesn't turn back on… :/

  • Does anyone have a problem with it stops recording after 1-2hrs of parking?
I tried reset all the settings, formatted the sd card. no luck. I have it set to motion detection off, G sensor low, loop recording 3 mins

    • 1-2 hours of parking? You do know that this model has a 'capacitor' and not a battery right?
For it work continuously after parking, it will need a power source to work while your car is parked.

    • Do you mean it doesn't start back up after being parked in the sun for 1-2 hrs? If so, then it is usually the heat protection circuitry cutting in and won't turn back on automatically till it cools down.

      • i forgot to mention i got it connect to a constant power source

  • +2

Just to let other users know I set up as recommended by the OP; using a Samsung 64GB EVO in the dashcam, no problems (so far).

  • How do I add my points when purchasing the dashcam? I got 120 points but how do I add them on to reduce the price?

    • The dashcam can't be used with the points currently. Not all items are eligible. They keep changing.

      • So why did op mention the points if I can't use it for this cam?

        • The deal was posted over a month ago. As ozlab says above, he/she has found that the points can't currently be used. Deals and associated points offers continually change so if you really need to save the few dollars then keep checking this and all other resellers then when you find what you want just jump on it. That could happen tomorrow or may take 6 months but when you do discover the deal be sure to post it here as others will appreciate it.

Gearbest.com is currently selling at USD$39.59
    http://www.gearbest.com/car-dvr/pp_196898.html

Please be aware that gearbest.com is currently banned in ozbargain due to shipping issues. If you are willing to take risk and dispute with paypal for any problem, this is a pretty good deal.

    • Nice find Ozlab. I know they're banned here and sure it may be risky but I've bought from them before without any dramas so wouldn't hesitate to buy from then again.

  • Mine shipped out on the 15 March but yet arrived.

  • Anybody having problems with the menu button? Mine won't work when plugged into the car power using their supplied lead. If I use the short USB lead supplied (with a usb power pack) and push the menu button on power up it usually goes into the menu ok. Sometimes it takes a few goes. It also has the date problems many people reported.

The recordings are excellent though! It captured an idiot in action in front of me who almost caused two head ons in the space of a minute, must post it on You tube soon.

  • I DIDNT EVEN FRIGGEN GET MINE, WASTE OF MONEY!!!
