        • Ah crappy slow carriers. Yeah mine's the H815, got the update through LG Bridge.

  • I would like to buy LG G4 H818p dual sim!!!

    • i like turtles

  • OnePlus One did well at "capturing the soul of the Nexus family". Just sayin'

  • does anyone know if warranty is 2 years or one year ? Play store offer 2 years I think, but nothing on JB page about warranty.

  • Is this genuine deal ? 54% off and price is $364.

s7 or two of these lol?

  • I've been meaning to replace the wifes broken 4 (she's using a friend's phone) thanks OP!

Fantastic share! Purchased online, click and collect, picked it up all within an hour!
    Happy chappayy right here

    • New toy!

      • +1

Haha for only 24 hours! The sister decided she wanted it so I passed it down and got a 6P on contract with a student discount at Optus. Here's hoping I made the right decision

  • Damn this looks like a nice phone

  • So keen. Want to wait 24 hours (new rule I've given myself about impulse buys)

What are the chances of stock running out? I may have to bend my rule to make sure I get one…I'm probably 90% but want to sleep on the decision at least.

    • +1

Purchase it first. If you change your mind, return it.

      • Good thinking. Got one :)

  • +2

As others have said, this is the price I was hoping for when it was released. Very disappointed at the time but glad I stuck with my Nexus 5 and waited. (Also glad I didn't go with the Expansys deal earlier this week!!)

  • Thanks op got one

  • What's C+C like with JB?

My most recent experience was with Dick Smith. Ended up having to chase my money with no product.

    Order currently - 'in progress'

Are they generally pretty good with correct stock levels? Just picked the store nearest to me…I assume that means it had stock.

So stoked it's been a while since I had a new phone =D

    • +3

It does vary from store-to-store. There are 4 in the city of Sydney and one store is superfast compared to the other 3. But you will notice that it is pretty hard to beat Dick Smith's poor service. They will send you an email when it is ready for collection. Don't think you will have a bad experience with their C+C.

  • Has anyone gone in store and bought this without purchasing online?

    • +2

I can confirm I bought mine in store this afternoon from a Sydney Cbd store. It's on their store system at $447 already but was advertised on the shelf at the higher price.

      • Thanks mate will go to Broadway to check it out.

      • Quick one buddy . Is it locked to the Telstra Network ?

I went into a Sydney CBD Store as well and the guy checked his system and warned me that it shows up as 'Prepaid' phone on the system for the 447$ Blue model. So he believed it would be locked to the Telstra Network.

Only the higher priced black model showed up as outright purchase.

        • Sorry mate - I can't help you check another carrier. Both of us in my household are on the Telstra network. I've checked my receipt though and it says "Postpaid" and that would indicate it is not network locked.

        • Mate….I bought an extra sealed postpaid one. Unopened. You want it let me know. Same price. Bought on Friday. Only needed one phone in the end.

  • +1

Wonder if i should pay with gift card (6% discount) or use coles cc for price protection.

Probably is not going to be cheaper than this.

    • +1

Can u share where u will buy the gift card to get 6% off?

      • Corporate discount

        • Arhh. Good times.

  • +2

Are people not concerned by the performance issues with this phone? Lots of reports of unusable cameras etc. Though there was a performance update recently, I still worry about having an unusable phone after a while.

  • No Wireless Charging, that's a bit lame :P

    Merged from LG Nexus 5X 32GB Smartphone Blue - $447 ($405 with Discounted Gift Cards via Big W) C&C or + $10 Delivery @ JB Hi-Fi

I haven't tested this but see no reason why it wouldn't work…

A combination of the the two following deals to save a bit extra.

Step 1: Buy $450 Big W gift card for $405 at 10% off using current deal. Activation is instant.
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/237641

Step 2: Buy $450 worth of JB Hifi vouchers using the Big W gift card (could be done at Big W or Woolworths depending on stock in your area). Activation is instant

Step 3: Purchase the Nexus at JB Hifi in accordance with this deal using the $450 in JB Hifi gift cards. I think you can use up to 5 gift cards (which you would have 4 $100s and 1 $50).
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/238438

    • Has anyone tried this? Would there be any difficulty in buying the JB Hifi cards with a BIG W card?

      • +1

I just followed this guide, used to buy 2 Nexus 5x 32GB for a total of $810, with $6 credit left over on the last JB Card.
The thing was to find the JB Hifi Cards first (there werent many left at the Big W I went to), then find a helpful Big W assistant to help at the self checkout with all the card redemptions and activations.

        • +1

hey, when you buy the Big W gift card and its activated by the cashier can you use the card straight away? i'll be going back for more if its the case and finding some JB cards.

        • +3

@shonofear: Sure - thats what I did. I went to the self checkout with 2x BigW gift cards, 8x $100 and 2x $50 JB Hifi Cards. As soon as you scan the first BigW gift card, the assistant will come over. They do it all in one go from there:

          So for one Nexus 5x
          1. Take 1x Big W card, 4x $100, 1x $50 JB Gift cards to self checkout
          2. Scan the Big W card, staff alerted, so they come over
          3. Say you want to put $450 on the Big W gift card (I also said to the assistant, that I wanted to use it to buy the JB cards, and could they please help me?)
          4. Pay with your Amex or whatever your payment method. you will be charged $405.00
          5. Big W staff then take it from there. The activate the Big W card, then scan in the JB Cards, pay with the Big W Card, activate the JB Cards and print out a whole lot of receipts.

          Should take around 5 minutes.

          Good luck!

        • +2

@pete2: You are a brave person! I split this up into:
          1. Purchase $100 Big W card
          2. Purchase $350 Big W card.
          3. Purchase 2 x $100 JB Hi-Fi cards at Big W.
          4. Purchase 2 X $100, 1 x $50 JB Hi-Fi cards at Woolworths.

About ~$200 paid via ING for 2% cashback.

All to minimise the likelihood of being refused.

I was successful but it took lots of running around!

        • @onlyme:
          Respect.

        • @shonofear: Yup did it at big w, used it to buy jb gift cards then went straight to jb to buy the 5x.

        • +1

Legends !!! Just got the JB gift cards and got my local JB to put 1 of the last 2 available on hold for me for pickup tomorrow. Headed to NZ next month so even cheaper with TRS.

  • JB has a 30 day change of mind refund policy. Anyone had experience returning items or are they just as terrible as harvey Norman's returns?
    https://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http…

    • Unopened should be fine

    • I just asked in store - supposedly this doesn't apply to phones, even though the document on their web site doesn't mention this. Has anyone had experience returning am unopened phone within 30 days?

  • If I didn't own Nexus 5 before, I would definitely pick this one up. No point upgrading as it is almost the same Nexus experience.

    • +1

Maybe the same Android experience but the hardware is a good improvement. No wireless charging is sad but the fingerprint and Camera improvements are two big reasons I'm upgrading.

  • Still can't decide between this or the LG G4. The fingerprint login is a nice convenient touch, but the camera from the G4 is better. I want both!

    • I'm in your situation. Going to wait for the G4 for local stock in this price. I prefer the G4's bigger screen size, better pixels and camera.

      • I'm also inclined to wait, but what is the best price that anyone had found on a G4 recently (Aus stock)? I'd rather take the G4 than spend 12 months waiting for the G4 to come down to the mid 400s. I wish I had a crystal ball?

        • I think this should be the best price on local stock at $593. Jbhifi sells it for $699.
          https://www.mobileciti.com.au/catalogsearch/result/?q=lg+g4

Not long now, the G5 will be released in April.

        • Seems like the LG G5 will be a mix in between the Nexus 5x and the LG4 (but even better), it'll have the fingerprint scanner AND the stunning camera (two cameras at the back!). Being a flagship phone at a flagship price will probably mean having to wait until the LG 7 is out for the G5 to be more affordable :(

    • seems like the 5x camera is better according to this
      http://www.androidcentral.com/photos-showdown-iphone-6s-plus…

Noticeably worse night time photos on the g4.

      • +3

Having used both I can tell you that if you know anything about photography then the G4 blows other mobile cameras away.

The Hdr+ mode on the nexus phones is fantastic and works really well for a person who only wants to take pics in auto mode. it can be slow sometimes but produces good results.

overall I'd take the g4 as the nexus just can't take the pics thay the g4 can and the auto mode in g4 works very well in most conditions too.

just check out the LG g4 community on Google + for some samples and you'll know what I mean.

        edit: here is a sample

If you've had stock android previously get the 5x, I went from Nexus 5 to G4 and hated the LG skin. Sold it after a month and bought a 6P and love it.

      • Can I ask what's so good about stock android? (other than the on time updates of nexus')
I used it for a while and didn't really feel any real difference? Nexus phones have pretty bad cameras (probably because of the lack of software tweaking) and boring UI, I honestly feel that stock android is just overrated.

        • I guess I am just used to stock, I found the LG skin got in the way of what I was used to. A few features I used were missing as they were from the latest build of Android (such as "No interruptions until next alarm"). As I said If you've had stock android previously get the 5x, if you're happy with skinned android then the G4 is a good bet.

    • I have G4 and the biggest negative I have with it is battery life. It's probably the same with the nexus though since despite the advantage of lower red screen the battery is smaller. The nexus is probably the better choice if you want to keep long term. But I'm getting G5.

Android n is going to be awesome judging by the preview. And the camera on this phone is good.

  • Walked straight in to JBHifi at Melb Elizabeth St and got one, thanks OP. I have the S6 as well and was able to compare, the LG Nexus 5X camera sure look terrible next to the S6.

    • How is the 5X overall compared to the S6.. I also have the S6 but want something different and tempted with the 5X for pure android

      • precisely why I got the 5x. I really, really like the 5x, except for the camera (as usual). I really dont understand why they cant seem to get the camera right.

Don't get me wrong, it's decent, but it pales in comparison with the heavyweights from apple and samsung flagship. However, we're comparing a $400 phone with a $1000 one here.

  • Tossing up between this and the OnePlus Two (link below).

    http://www.eglobaldigitalcameras.com.au/oneplus-2-64gb-dual-…

    Any thoughts?

    • -1

There's no need to think about this at all, the oneplus 2 has very limited 4G here in Australia, not even worth considering.

      • I am assuming that would be a grey import?

I have a OnePlus One and every appears to be working fine with that? Never had an issue.

        • All OnePlus phones are grey imports, there's no official presence of OP here in AU.
In regards to 4G, being in VIC essentially you're getting only 1800MHz with OP phones, which is… "ok", "fine" in metro areas. It's the most original/oldest 4G network that is likely congested and slow with patches that need to be filled by other frequencies.
The nexus 5x on the other hand supports 700mhz, 850mhz and 2300mhz which are what you want for Telstra Optus and Voda's new 4G networks.

  • +1

Waiting for good deal for Oppo r7 plus or a G4. Been through few nexus in past. I'm done with nexus family..Nothing exciting.

  • How does this compares with Huawei G8?

  • Just realized I have extra 7.5% off from company discount, the Nexus 5X cannot be cheaper. Seriously checking to see if it's worth upgrading from Nexus 5. Can anyone recommend anything better?

    • I have a Nexus 5 and also considering my next upgrade.
Went to jb to try out couple of phones. The 5X feels very simialr to the Nexus 5 and I'm not sure if it's worth upgrading.
I'm currently choosing between lg g4 and Nexus 6p if that helps.

      • Thanks for the input.

        I've already bought the Nexus 5X ;-D

The camera (based on DXOMark the camera of 5X is similar to 6P) is better, overall improvements (a lot), at this price, I am happy to upgrade.

  • +1

I'd hoped this was expired this morning because I knew my resistance to buy would not last 2 days… I did however score it for $423 :)
I think this is for government employees only but got me almost 6% extra off, first time I've used it :)
    www.smartdiscounts.com.au

  • Expired, I think?

    • Woops, just out-of-stock at my local, all good!

      • Still in stock at Marion, just picked one up

  • 2GB LPDDR3 RAM

  • Picked one up this morning; killed my Sony C3 yesterday, happy with price and quality….Screen is slightly smaller than the Sony C3 and phone is slighty thicker, apart from that incredible good good value for ~$450. Thanks OP

  • Stepping up from an original Moto X - I really like it.

The size of it will take some getting used to. I'd prefer an iPhone but can't justify the price. Kind of settled into Android now anyways.

  • +1

Dose anybody else find jb rude? i got phone call on sat at 8am online team. then wait all day to do a pick up.

    • +1

Ordered last night. Got a phone call around 12:00pm today to confirm the order, still waiting for the ready to collect email.

  • +7

Hey guys, i just posted this bargain for people looking for additional USB-C "Benson Approved" cables for their new nexus

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/238617

  • Any good deals on cases?

Thinking of just going with this - https://store.google.com/product/adopted_protective_case_n5x

    Seems simply and sturdy.

  • Those still waiting for collection emails, check your confirmation email. My says stock is unavailable :( but also still tells me to wait for a collection email. So hopefully they're getting more in, and won't just cancel my order.

    • I bought mine online yesterday, then got a call from JB this morning to confirm my identity then got a confirmation email this afternoon. No pick up email yet. My confirmation email has "availablility: unavailable" which I'm interpreting as very different to stock being unavailable. Nowhere on my email does it say stock unavailable so hopefully that is the case.

      • That's the same message I got. I interpreted it as "there is no stock available". But I guess that could also mean that stock levels simply aren't available.

  • +3

Picked one up this afternoon using the Big W gift card combination (and a little running around) - so it costed me $405. Thanks to OP and the commentators for the high praise of this phone!

  • Paid via paypal yesterday afternoon for a C&C option at Galleries Victoria in sydney CBD, till now the payment is not processed and I haven't received any confirmation to pick it up.

Not too sure if the online department just don't work on the weekends, but this is piss poor.

  • I bought the 16GB through Mobileciti when they were doing the deal, shattered to see this now

  • When LG releases the G5, will it be heaps better than their Nexus 5X?

Was thinking of switching to one of the Nexus phones but it seems each model has some noticeable flaws. The 6P apparently has noticeably worse reception/coverage in areas with a weak signal compared to the previous big Nexus made by Motorola, whereas the 5X is apparently not doing well in terms of speed and snappiness due to a poor processor choice (which also overheats).

  • +1

very happy with the purchase. didn't realize the charging cable provided is usb-c at each end. unable to hook it up to my pc.

    • I know, it's so annoying!

    • If you are looking to do file transfer to the device, I've found Airdroid application is pretty handy - file transfers over your WiFi network

  • Thanks op got another one for dad

  • collected mine on fri itself…..now need to get a good case and screen protector…any suggestions? (bought 5x as my N5 screen broke..thinking of getting a sturdy case this time..)
