This is nothing new or better from Tesltra. Or am I missing something here?

    • They do not currently have a $40 plan

      • +1

Okay - When i signed up almost 6 months ago I got the same deal as per your post at $40/mth plus I received $200 bonus welcome credit… I'm just thinking that this isn't anything special for what you can get if you ask.

        • +1

What did you do to receive the bonus welcome credit?

        • But wasn't it 50 a month with 200$ credit

        • -1

@BlueMM: Just told them I wanted a better deal. They offered me $10 month of my bill for the life of my plan. As i said, this deal is nothing special imo..

        • +1

@BlueMM: It was a deal back then, it's not available anymore.

      • +1

        Wasn't the MX plan $40 ?

        • Yes, which is pretty much what they are bringing back

        • +2

          @bargainbot12:
Ah ok, didn't realise that one was expired. So a re-invented MX, to try & compete with the Optus deal?

        • +2

@nismo: Yeah looks like it. Not doing themselves any favours either with their outages.

      • I was chatting with a friend over 8 weeks ago on the streets of Melb CBD and saw an ad for Telstra, $40, 7gb (5+2GB) plan …….? I don't get it. Infact IIRC he was on the plan to boot.

      • They had it just over a week ago, so did Optus.

      • Poorer value compared to the pre-paid Freedom Plus $40 plan which gives unlimited phone calls.

        • +1

Value is relative, I use less than a $1000 in calls but by going post paid I get access to the AFL Live pass etc

  • +1

I wonder if this is for 'new customers only' again.

    • it seems all the good deals are.

      • +6

Yes a while ago I wanted to transfer over to this $40 deal after being a Telstra customer for over 10 years and was told it was for new customers only. So I had to port out to another carrier. So now I have saved $20 a month for 4 months with Amaysim and unless the deal gets a little better than this I will stay where I am.

        • +3

A Telstra rep needs to see what they did there.

        • @alan77: nothing to do with rep. It's managment decision.

        • +1

@expertreader: Sorry if what I meant wasn't clear - what I mean is a Telstra rep (i.e. any Telstra rep) needs to see what Telstra did there, i.e. they essentially drove away a loyal customer by restricting the offer to new customers only. Capiche?

        • +1

@alan77: still, Telstra rep is just following decisions from management to not offer this plans to existing customers. Reps cannot go outside their instructions unless management approves it.

    • I am on this plan and changed over without being a new customer despite it saying it is. I wonder if it makes a difference what services you have with them or tenure? I've been with them for 8 maybe 9 years. We have two mobiles, a landline and internet with them. I was also on a BYO plan at the time but it was outside of contract. But I was able to get 'permission' to change because I said I would change to optus and come back as a new customer otherwise, which I was prepared to do.

  • +2

    Thanks bargainbot12!

  • +3

Hmm I wonder if their Boost brand will be bring out new plans?

    • +1

      Telstra doesn't own Boost.

  • Does this come with Play store credit or is that only on the Freedom prepaid?

    • Not 100% sure but in the past in pretty sure it hasn't included the credit

    • +2

      Only prepaid

  • +1

just chat and tansfer my $45 go causal plan with htc m8 to the new plan with $5 less a month+5gb more data.
    very happy

    • What's your current plan's data? $40 and XGB?

      • before go casual 45 now byo 50 but only $40 a month 7gb data just like the op one

        • That's great! I'll try livechat again. Cheers

        • You had a phone repayment which was discounted as per the Go Casual $45 payment. Are you sure you will not be charged $25 replayment for the $600 HTC M8 ? I took up the Galaxy S5 on the $45 Casual plan and the bill clearly says the repayments will be waived as long as I am on the plan.

        • @regenade: live chat told me only $40 need to pay. dont need to pay the 25. no idea why

        • @edw0000000: Sending you a PM on how you changed the plan. I am on the same Go Casual $45 with an S5

    • Can you still do an early upgrade in June?

      • U mean new phone for149? Yes

        • Still okay to keep a $5 data share SIM?

        • @LoopyLou: sorry I don't have a data share sim , maybe someone can answer this

    • I'm on the go mobile 45 with the s4, that I sold. Asked chat if I can switch and they said no, still on contract, fees will apply. After the sale of the s5 it's really only 25 a month anyway… So I'm easy. Will wait until contract is up.
So beware- they won't necessarily swap you for a lesser plan for free. Which makes sense.

      • Wrong reply, sorry. One above I meant.

    • Good on ya, mate.

I'm on the same plan and would love to have more data as well. Could you please confirm if you had to forego unlimited national calls on the $45 go casual plan and now only have $1000 call credit as a result of moving to this plan?

  • +12

I'd be happy with 1/3 the data for 1/2 the price :(

    • +1

      same here

      • +1

Actually, even 1/4 the data after checking in a calculator :(

    • They are so smart! They know we don't use that much data…

  • Can you port Optus numbers to Telstra?

    • Yes

    • Yes you can basically port any number anywhere from my experience.

  • +5

I guess this deal worths much more!?

    Unlimited Calls
    3GB more data

Optus Sim Only Plan with 10GB Data

    • +10

For many people, Telstra vs Optus is apples and oranges. Optus is getting better, but they still don't have the coverage of Telstra. No point having 10GB if you struggle to get a 2G connection.

      • -1

        Should be Apple and android

      • Ahaaaaa, I see

    • +2

If you've got optus signal in your area.

  • +4

FYI, Students can get this deal now (and its been available for a while)

    https://telstra-spotlight.myunidays.com/cdn/AU/en-AU/index

    • I've tried signing up to this a few times but the deal never seems to apply, even up to the very last step of the checkout process. Any tips? And yes I am a student with UNiDAYS.

      • No idea sorry, i'm a student with unidays, but im on a telstra business plan :/

      • +1

Had the same problem.. chatting to Telstra and trying to figure it out

        • spoke too soon, still doesn't work…

        • That link works (with IE Explorer) and is $40/month but only for 2.5GB, not 7GB. Dammit Telstra.

  • +1

Do you get a discount if you have telstra cable? Just like Optus?

    • No there is no loyalty discounts I believe :(

  • Is this for new customers only?

  • -1

when you say 12 month contract, can you still opt out at anytime ?

    • Looks like these two are the new plans out Monday? They automatically redirect away but you can force Stop your browser from doing so. Pressing Buy Online Now comes with an error, probably will work on Monday.

Sorry, the mobile shop is misbehaving
Sorry, the mobile shop is misbehaving. Our online team is on the case. Please try again later or find your nearest Telstra store.

    • @cheapsk8t can you advise how you found those links?

  • Is it International call included

  • +1

MYplan $40: "$1000 calls", 7gb data, access to postpaid perks

Freedom Plus $40: unlimited calls/test, 6gb data (half night data, though, ugh), $40 credit to either use on Google Play/Windows Phone or send to another sim.

My setup at the moment is Freedom Plus $40 and a mobile hotspot with an iPad Data plan sim that I funnel my credit into to use as necessary. It's $10/gb on that sim so I effectively have 10gb a month and unlimited calls/texts for $40.

    • -1

28 days not a month, so you are paying 13 times a year not 12 like postpaid !

      • +3

Scheduled recharge gives you the full month.

    • Is this Ipad Data Sim still available? Is it post paid or prepaid? The only prepaid one I can find $10 = 1gb but it expires in 3 days.

      • I believe you can activate any multi-fit starter pack as iPad online, I did mine through a $30 one a few months ago.

    • So just to confirm you can use the $40 credit on another sim? That is pretty good!

Does it work on regular plans or just data sims?

    • Don't forget that unused data rolls over to the next month on Freedom Plus. It's good to cover fluctuating data usage. That came in handy for me last week when my home internet was dead due to basslink being cut (and iinet being incompetent).

  • Why is Telstra always against international calling? If they even had a little international calling included in their plans id have joined them a lot earlier.

For now, I'm happy with the $40/10gb no contract and with rollover data Virgin plan.

  • Open these links in new incognito window with Chrome browser:

    https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/plans-and-rates/my-…
$40 per month for 12 months with 5GB. Includes $1000 calls, unlimited SMS/MMS. Online only support.

    https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/plans-and-rates/mz-…
$50 per month for 12 months with 7GB. Includes $1000 calls, unlimited SMS/MMS. Online only support.

Offers end 7th April. Online sign-up only.

The previous Mx plan was better - 7GB for $40/month, as is the current eBay promo.

    • I can also confirm that it's online only via chat.

  • I think I'll just stick to my Boost $40 Unlimited plan

  • Speed and coverage are important… I think Telstra deal a lot better than optus.

  • +2

so, it's Monday morning - is this confirmed ?

    • +1

Can't see anything on their website and have just tried to sign up for the M plan, final stage said $40 for 5gb as per the deals online…

  • I don't think this deal is on offer. My and Mz plans are likely the offers the OP was intending to refer to.

  • Has anyone had any luck today getting this deal? I called but the guy had no idea what I was talking about so i suspect it is online only?

    • I've contacted online chat and tried to switch my $45 Go Casual(with HTC One M8 offer) to this My plan but got rejected. The online staff was only willing to switch me to $70 L plan with 10GB data instead and kept mentioneing the restriction about the My plan which is only available to new customers(exit Telstra for min. 6 months) only.

      • +1

I was also on the same plan but I picked the Galaxy S5. The plan attached to our phones are Go Casual plan which are month to month. Which means you can jump to any plans. The trick here is that, when you jump onto another plan, make sure they don't cancel the phone repayments so you don't end up paying for the payout and attach the phone repayment onto the new plan.

I was on the Go casual until last January when I changed to the 12 month BYO M plan with 7GB and unlimited calls as bonus. They removed the 45 Go Casual plan and left the S5 payment as is and attached it to the 12 month BYO plan. So no payout required. So technically I'm only on contract with the S5 for 18 months instead of 24 months.

BTW, to make this happen, I had a chat with the disconnection team.

        • I'm in the same situation, how much is the handset repayment? :)

        • +1

          @rgavin:

It depends on how long you've been on the Go Casual plan. How many months you have left on the Go Casual plan multiply it by $25.

    • I had success last night. Basically due to the fact I have been a customer for a long time, they made me a plan. Basically I'm on some $50 2gb plan with $1000 of calls but every month i get a bonus 5gb of data and $10 credit.

    Me
Hi Richard, wondering how I can get access to the $40 Mobile Plan, 7 GB (12 Months, SIM Only). I've heard it's on offer as of today

    Chat rep
I'm sorry but that offer expired on 16th March. What we have now is the Mz BYO Plan. It is for $50 with 7GB data allowance and $1000 call allowance.

    • +1

Another rep just gave me the same response… isn't this why you can't post a deal until it's confirmed?

    • such a lie, my guy told me it ended on the 1/4/16 and was replaced by $50 mz plan

edit that being said I had a sook about how hard it was to navigate and how disappointed I was and the operator processed it for me

  • Definitely not a valid deal….. they wouldn't even offer me $50 for this deal over the phone and said I had to sign up online…..

  • +7

BINGO!!! Just called Telstra on 132200 and asked for Sales. Was put through to a much better call centre in Manila! He was like 'no problem at all, $40 a month, 7 GB Data & $1000 calls. Includes AFL LIVE, Apple Music, iCloud 200 GB, 12 month plan and $80 welcome credit'… The dude was a legend. Also signed up to Foxtel for 3 Months for free and got a Data Share Sim so my data is 8.1GB for 3 months free! It's called GO MOBILE BYO PLAN. Finally winning :)

    • Woah, congrats!
