They are not illegal.
The laws are still vague on the issue. I read the articles and Nintendo only decided to push ahead on the R4 issue after they won the case against the guy who leaked NSMB Wii.
Ozmodchips and other retailers (acegamestore etc..) are still selling them. Modchips and flashcarts can be used to run homebrew and "legal" backups. How you choose to use the product is up to you.
Banning them is like banning the sale of knives because can be used to stab people.
@Livert: Yes I agree, I wasn't too sure about this either. I know that one of the R4 distributors got fined $500,000 and settled out of court with Nintendo.
They seem to be going after the bigger players and not the end users at the moment anyway.
all the more reason to snap them up while we can. They are selling r4 type devices like socks at every computer swap meet around Australia, so they are not doing a great job of stopping it.

These won't even be legitimate R4s made by the original guys who made them. Rather, it'll be a counterfeit of a device used to… counterfeit.
Regardless, those prices suck even with a 30% discount.
Yeah, I miss the days when DX used to stock these. Most were under 10 bucks delivered!
DX still do — you'll just have to find the links from the forums… It's no longer in their catalogue.
I know of the forum links but they don't work now. Even DX mods are locking threads with links.

Just bought 5 of these, use to get them from DX but got annoyed with the delay in receiving goods. Unsure how this site will be but ill give it a try. I have purchased about 15 Acerkards and they work great. Alot cheaper that AU sites

I think uploading for people to download or selling the softwares are illegal, not just "playing" them!
That is exactly why DX not selling them anymore, Hong Kong passed a law last year banning for those device. But using it individually is OK.
