    Not sure how good.
The best ones seem to be the Hobie if you are willing to pay $1400.

  • Price is 309 now.

    • Can you post a link for the $309 one please?

        Its the same link mate.

  • @ $399 delivered this might be worth considering. These two reviews are positive and at least one of them seems legit.

Thank you this kayak is fantastic, ordered Tuesday from Melbourne arrived wednesday in myrtleford. Unbelievable price VERY happy with it. If u walked into BCF something similar would cost about $1100. Seat took a little working out but got it sorted after 10mins and the adjustable centre fishing rod holder came without screws. Seat instructions in a bag with rod holder screws would make this easier for complete novices like myself. All in all I couldn't be happier with this purchase.. Grabing me a pdf and torch then I'll see u out there

    ….

thank you findsports , the kayak is excellent quality , fantastic in the water , great value and I certainly will be buying from you again in the future.

  • Interesting I just found this listed http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Neongreen-Yellow-2-Person-Double-… at zero feedback I'm thinking it's not legit. A two seater at $355 delivered? If legit this is a no brainer!

  • Looks good. But only if you need a 2 seats. Too long and heavy if you are going to carry it and paddle by yourself.

  • Had poor after sales service from these guys, didn't bother responding to me after a product I bought at Find developed a fault.

If you decide to buy one of these kayaks, don't be put off from kayaking by how miserable they are to paddle!

2.7m sit on top kayaks are inherently useless for anything other than pottering around 30m from shore or skinny water. They are slow, they catch the wind, they track incredibly poorly and they generally ruin the experience. I have seen heaps of people who get one of these, use it twice, realise it isn't as fun as it is made to look, and leave it in the shed for the next three years.

If you are interested in kayaking, buy yourself something about 4-5m long, second hand.
If you are interested in pottering around 30m from shore, buy one of these used off gumtree.

    • I thought the 2.8-3m long ones would be good as fishing kayaks.
The 4-5m long ones seem very heavy and difficult to handle or carry.
I had a 4.6m long canoe and it was ok for 2 people to carry and paddle, but incredibly difficult for one person.

it depends on what type of fishing you want to do. If you want to potter around the local canal or creek on a nice day, and travel not much more than a couple of kms in a session, they will probably be fine. If you intend to hit up the bay, or moderate sized rivers, it will be less than ideal.

The 4-5m ones are about 4-7kg heavier generally (26-30 kg instead of 22 kg), and are more awkward to load on and off the car - primarily due to wind. That said, there are ways and tools to load and unload that are safer, and easier. As far as handling goes, regardless of the length of the kayak, a trolley makes it MUCH easier - you can rig everything up at the car, and drag the lot to the water in one go.

Where they make up for it in the water is that they are quicker and easier to paddle in a straight line due to their increased water line. They will generally be a bit narrower than the 80cm that these claim, which means you can actually take a proper paddle stroke. This reduced width may initially feel more tippy, but you will adjust to it very quickly. They will also be less affected when heading into chop, feeling more stable.

Canoes are a tricky one - because they have such high sides, they will catch any wind! Like you said - designed as a 2 person craft.

Having re-read my post, I come across a bit dickish! Sorry, was not my intention. If you do choose to try out the sport (in any craft), make sure you also learn how to tie the craft on the roofracks, grab a well fitted PFD, and practice reentry into the kayak from the water before taking it further than you can swim!

i have to agree 100% - and take it from me - I'm someone who bought a brand new recreational kayak initially
you're much better off buying a second hand kayak off ebay or gumtree, which will give you better value for your money
often you can find recreational second-hand kayaks like these going for anywhere from $50-200 - just bear in mind the general principle that the longer and narrower a kayak, the faster it will tend to travel (although usually inherently less stable)

  • Thank you for your advice.
What do you think about the 2 seats kayaks?
They are 4-5m long and you have the option of using them for 2 people, but how are they to paddle for one person? Is one of the seats positioned to paddle by yourself?
