  • $1425 for this guitar at my (usually cheap) music store

  • Sorry for noob question. Will it be 'loud' enuf to play it without amp? For just living room strumming? Thanks

    • Not sure about that sorry. May be send them a message?

I've got a similar body Ibanez AM73 Guitar. They're definitely louder than playing electric guitars without an amp.

For $765 this is a good buy.

It won't be as loud as an acoustic but it will be loud enough, unless you get a big crowd at home.

    • Yup. Loud enough to practice with, and nothing more. Plug it in to an amp though… mm-mmmmmmm….

Technically doesn't say it's US made…. Is it??

I asked seller. Waiting for answer. I'll be kicking myself if I pay this much and its made in china. Almost bought second hand one for this price few weeks ago

    • Says in the item specifics that it's made in South Korea. They make decent value guitars; got an Agile that was made in SK and it's way nicer than my cheap Indonesian made Ibanez 6 and 8 strings

      • Ugh, yuk. Only guitars I buy out of Asia now are from Japan.

        • Then you are missing out on some excellent guitars.
Some of the SK Fenders are amazing.

        • @King Tightarse: I'd still rather balance quality and resale. Korean guitars have a horrific resale value.

        • @sqeeksqeek:
They used to say exactly the same things about Japanese Fenders: They were a joke, only for students, not a real guitar etc.
Seriously, I bought a Korean Thinline Telecaster IN Japan a couple of years ago. It shirts all over most others. Quality is outstanding. Read below how Gretch standard guitars are made in Korea. Really would encourage you to give them a go.

        • @King Tightarse: Hmmm… Gretsch would be my next purchase after a sub $1k Yamaha SA1000 (ES335 clone, from the lawsuit 80's stuff coming out of Japan). I've been burned by a Korean Gibson before, so needless to say, I'm very cautious…

        • Try a Chinese Eastman guitar and compare it with anything Japanese.

The only Gretsch being made in the US now are custom shops items.
Depending on the model it's either South Korea, Japan or China, it's been that way for the last ten years.
I wouldn't panic about being Korean made, they've got fantastic woodworking and soldering coming out of that factory that has been professionally commented on as being a higher standard than the remaining US factory.
Brilliant guitar and a stupidly good price at that, most Aus music stores will have this on run-out sale at around $1000-$1150.

Also, not really loud enough to strum on without an amp unless it's practice, then it's fine for the ear. Would recommend a nice Vox or even Orange amp to get the crisp rockabilly twang out of it.

(Sorry for the formatting, on my phone in bed)

  • Price is US $549.99 + $90.09
According to eBay, this is approx AU $714.97 + $117.11 = AU $832.08 (not AU $765.11)
