    IMPORTANT NOTE

TVPad's domains were seized by the US government as they got sued for piracy and it is no longer under TVPad's control.

The company behind TVpad is apparently gone as well. However, TVpad servers continue to be online
    http://tvpaddns.com/server-status/

For more information read the old thread at
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/217698

TVPAD may or may not continue to function in the future — buy at own risk!

    • You're absolutely right!

    Dear scrimshaw!

Due to copyright issues the service was closed in the US and Korea last year. Elsewere (including AU) it's working fine.

    • How about tvpad2

      • TVpad 1, 2 and 3 were closed by the factory by Jan. 1 unfortunately. TVpad 4 is the only one that works.

        • +5

          The factory is shut down..

But the company just let support go.

If anything tvpad is irresponsible and untrustworthy. Just want you to keep buying the new version.

          @astarman:

Don't trust Tvpad. What's happened is that they produced too many units and then got sued and forced to shut down its services.

The company and its distributors were left with excess stock which cannot be sold off easily because of bad reputation and uncertainty.

They decided to trick people into updating to Tvpad 4 implying continued service and deliberately disabled all the rest of the other units.

What will happen is that once they got rid of all excess units of the Tvpad 4, services will disappear.

The parent company will then leverage their existing tech into a new product, and the litigation cycle begins again. With these boxes and their content, jump in early to benefit most. They are pyramid schemes.

      • I thought officially 1-3 are gone?

        • 1-3 don't work anymore, only a matter or time before 4 doesn't work either tbh

    • Yeah right. I'm afraid you're loaded up with stocks in your warehouse which you think the service will cease anytime, now panicking huh?

      • -1

Can't speak for the factory, but never hold a huge stock. The factory ships them quit quickly.
And why panicking? Simply because we decided to try out ozbargain?

Not that it makes sense to argue here or anyone here should believe me :)
BTW, here's a link to the TVpad CA forum, quite a lot of information regarding the issues mentioned here:
        http://tvpadtalk.ca/categories/tvpad

  • Dont bother with tvpad, they can cease service at any monent. Thats what happend to my tvpad3

  • +3

Who knows how long the service would last. It could be much cheaper elsewhere once the server is gone.

  • Save your cash and buy a slingbox instead.

Just to clarify a few things, without replying to everyone separately:
    1. The factory is working fine, otherwise the sellers won't have any stock.
    2. TVpad has been working (with some interruptions) since 5 years and survived several lawsuits.
    3. True, there's a risk that at some point the service will be closed. But the risk is exactly the with any other Chinese IPTV box. And it isn't much bigger than it was 4 years ago.
    4. True, the decision to close the old boxes was a bad one. The factory explained that it was due to the reason that the TVpad 4 is on a new platform compared to the old versions. And they didn't want to support both. If it's true (or the only reason) or not - no one knows. There won't be a new version any time soon though. And I rather doubt they risk to do it again.
    5. The fact is - TVpad 4 is working and has support from the factory.

    • To review the true on store Rep clarify

      1. TVpad has been working (with some interruptions) since 5 years and survived several lawsuits.
TVpad4 has not been working for 5 years as it just come out around 2 years ago, however 1,2,3 are there more than 5 year, tvpad offer no more monthly fee for life when they sell tvpad 1,2,3 then suddenly all 1,2,3 become brick, i think 4 will be soon as the price are low and may be just die before tvpad 5 come out, you never know when

      2. True, there's a risk that at some point the service will be closed. But the risk is exactly the with any other Chinese IPTV box. And it isn't much bigger than it was 4 years ago.
Tvpad is the biggest(used to be) and the risk the service will be closed will be highest

      3. True, the decision to close the old boxes was a bad one. The factory explained that it was due to the reason that the TVpad 4 is on a new platform compared to the old versions. Factory didn't want to support is not a reason or excuse to shut down 1,2,3 and advertise free for life
You dont know if new version will not come out anytime soon, technology you dont know when and store rep statement is trust-able ??

      4. The fact is - TVpad 4 is working and has support from the factory.
For now , may be once again they do not want to support it and all money will be vanish

Ozbargainer please stay away TVPAD unless they once again support 1,2,3.

    • The fact is, you're part of the scammer network and ripping people's money before turning your back and runaway.

  • Feck u Tvpad ! A bunch of chinese scammers will just turn off the service in a few months time and force you into buying the next generation of hardwares

    • First of all, we are not connected to the factory, we are resellers. So I can only provide info that's available to resellers.
      As for your questions:
I was referring to tvpad as company, not individual boxes.
Sure, there's no guarantee that they won't do it. But just take a look at the comments here. It was a bad move, doing it again would be suicide.
I'm not going to defend their their decision, it was plain stupid :)

      • If it was plain stupid for TVPad (the company) to shutdown their old boxes, it's plain moronic trying to sell their currently generation (tvpad4) and persuading people that it's a "good deal". Fair?

        • Why? It's been working since 2 years, as the users can probably confirm.
Yes, the decision certainly hurt the sales. They went down instead of up (as the factory probably hoped), so why would they do it again? Now that would be moronic :)
In the light of that, why should anyone stop selling it?

PS: you can all probably agree that we won't get any sales out of this deal now. But I have nothing against a discussion :)

        • @cntvpad:

if no one willing to sell anymore TvPad, then this push the factory to reconsider to honor their promise.

And now you keep selling it and it bring more damage to people who bought this device.

You should reflect this to your company and the factory.

I don't think TvPad will ask much longer, everyone is buying HTV now at least they are honoring their promise for at least 3 years.

  • It seemed like each year they released a new version so what's to say they don't continue that trend and release a TVPad 5 in a few months and decide to drop tvpad4?

OzBargainers save you cash and get other cheaper boxes… same risk of service being closed at a fraction of the price.

  • I spent some time reading all posts in this thread. Thanks to all contributors. And it was pleasing that the comments were sound rather than saying this is a crap deal.

The promotion here also lacks the skill of a salesperson in the art of the spin as it seems lets through facts and see what sticks. lol.

  • Any tvpad alternatives?

    • HTV

      • Yes. But rumours say they're run by the same group of people in China who ran TVPad… Buy at your own risk.
