Wesco Combo Kit (100mm Angle Grinder, 14.4v Cordless Drill, Sander) $39 (Save $40) @ Masters

640

In the latest catalog. $39 for the 3 tools. save $40.

The drill has a 14.4v ni-cad battery and is usually $37ish - it has been as cheap as $27. 2 Reviews on Masters website only criticise the lack of a drill bit holder and lack of a decent rubber grip - actually quality is explained as good.

Wesco 750W 100mm Angle Grinder is usually $49 - but these inexpensive grinders are usually less than that.

the Wesco 150W 1/3 Sheet Finishing Sander is listed for $49 on the site. but again usually they are way cheaper.

I've got that Angle Grinder. Fine for the odd job but the bloody power button is so poorly designed. Have to fidget to get it to stay on which can be quite dangerous with an angle grinder.

I'd steer clear of the drill. Especially for the odd job. Being Ni-Cad it will be flat each time you go to use it. Spend a bit extra and get a li-ion battery

Then again at $13 each (for the 3), you can't really go wrong….. But if you have a bit more money I'd strongly suggest investing it in some better tools.

  • Cancelled the Worx angle grinder order for $29.. No stock.. from previous ozbargain post and got this.

I have the grinder and sander.

Sander is good. Cheap but good have used it for quick dent repairs, the paper retainer clips are weak as piss and tear up the paper so you will need to put in an extra fold.

Grinder does the job well, however the gears are loud as hell , will need opening up and grease added to quiten down.
The switch is also really stiff.

  • the only problem I have with this drill is getting a another battery for it. It seems it's only available from Masters and the battery costs more than this bargain.

Apart from that, the drill works great for the semi pro.

Should just be some 18650 batteries in series - pretty easy to DIY

Batteries will last ages as long as you remember to top up charge them every 3 months or so, ie dont let them go totally flat

NI-CAD batteries are HORRIBLE (memory effect - charge before they're fully flat, and that's your new capacity! doh!), but for $39 geeze… may as well.

  • Opened it up, the battery pack looks like 12 Sub-C cells. They're about $20 on ebay to replace. Might make an interesting project to replace with NiMH when the NiCads go cactus!
