Picked up one of these from Dicksmith for $48.

    Umad?

    Mod: Edited

    • is the mouse any good?

      • I dunno, gave it to the parents. lol
I use a mIcrosoft Arch Touch wireless mouse.

        • I have not read or watched a bad review about it with the exception of the two buttons near the thumb scroll wheel are in a spot further back that makes you have to move your thumb a little more to use them compared to the previous Performance model

          @Slave1:

For anyone thinking about buying one I'd really give it a try first.

Two major issues for me is:
          1. The thumb button position really is stupid because its way too far back from the thumb. If you're used to having the thumb button at your finger tips then you will have to adjust. I've adjusted to it somewhat by pushing the button using the base of my thumb. As for the forward button, i dont use it, its too small to push with my thumb and its too awkward to move my thumb all the way back.
          2. Pointer performance is ok, for browsing and work its adquate. I dont expect gamer level performance but i expect that a $100 mouse has adjustable dpi which is actually also useful for work and comfort.

Overall i think it kinda sucks for the price. Unless you really like the shape and the thumb scroll i see no point in getting this mouse when a gaming mouse can do more.

        • @bangmango: Sucks for the $100 price or the $80 price? Or both?

        • @Slave1:

Sucks for $80 even. No adjustable DPI means its a pretty standard performing wireless mouse. The thumb buttons are ridiculous and for me ruins any type of comfort gained from the nice shell. The thumb buttons need to be in the same position where the thumb scroll currently is.

Considering you can get a Logitech g602 for $60, i really think Logitech are just cashing in on the MX name.

        • @bangmango:

You can adjust the dpi though, between 400 and 1600dpi. It's in the Logitech Options software.

        • @TheContact:

That is NOT the DPI, that's the sensitivity settings. If you adjust the sensitivity the mouse still performs like an average wireless mouse except the pointer moves faster not smoother.

I've read the support threads and Logitech have made this mistake too.

@bangmango: I've gamed with my Logitech M950 for the past 5 years, and it's not like I'm at the bottom of every scoreboard. Unless you're a competitive e-sports gamer where every millisecond counts… I'd take the ergonomics of the MX Master any day.

        • @ProspectiveDarkness:

I dont think you have to be an e-sports gamer to appreciate high dpi mice. It's actually great for photoshop or any type of work where fine movement is needed. And for a mouse which is aimed at productivity i find it odd you cant adjust this.

          @bangmango:

I just tested it using MouseTester, and it does change DPI, not just pointer speed. While it was a bit imprecise 'cause I can't be stuffed doing it properly, with the bar maxed, it's about 1600CPI. At halfway it was ~1000, so pretty much spot on. Using Windows settings and with the minimum pointer speed and the Logitech Options "Sensitivity" maxed I still get ~1600CPI.

I don't particularly like the mouse, it just looks pretty, pretty much prefer the old M950(and G700s for that matter) in every other way, except perhaps the scroll, but to say you can't actually adjust the DPI(/CPI) is just plain false.

        • @TheContact:

I'm not convinced the increase in DPI helps with its performance anyway. I've set it to "high sensitivity" in the software and while it feels a bit better its certainly still feels like a wireless mouse. It has some nice features like smart shift and the ability to switch between multiple devices but for their flagship mouse and it retails like one, i'd expect performance the to match the price.

There are other dumb choices too like making the button to activate gestures hard to press and placing the button downwards.

        • @bangmango:

I've set it to "high sensitivity" in the software and while it feels a bit better its certainly still feels like a wireless mouse.

That's because it's a wireless office mouse, iirc, the polling rate is 125Hz. The G700s and G900 for comparison, go up to 1000Hz.

        • @TheContact:

The polling rate on my g602 is set to 125Hz but it still performs much better. Maybe its something to do with their dark light sensor but the pointer movement certainly doesnt feel like a premium wireless mouse.

      • I've been using it for a while, came from g9. At first i thought it was too big but once i got used to it i cant go back to the g9, or any other mouse really. It's a great mouse, the points about the thumb buttons really depends on how big your hand is, it's not one size fits all. Best to try it out for yourself. Conclusion, great mouse for casual computer use, i dont know about gaming.

        • I think it was by design that the thumb is meant to rest on the thumb scroll. It is a work/productivity mouse afterall so if you're scrolling through spreadsheets daily it's perfect. But it's still a silly design choice to have the thumb buttons in an inconvenient position.

And the thumb buttons being so far back surely only smaller hands would find it comfortable because my hands are largish and i have to bend my thumb backwards to touch it.

Picked up one of these from Dicksmith for $48

As I said, for those that missed grabbing one from Dick Smith…

    • Lucky you!!!

      • Lucky you!!!

I assume that's directed at cDNA and not me

  • Anyone used this yet?ive got the g502, pretty keen on losing the wires though

    • Ditto - I've been happily using a G602 at home. Been considering either this or another G602 at work, but the MX is more expensive - why? What's better about it?

      • I have both. The MX master feels better ergonomically to me. Also it has the speed adaptive scroll wheel, thumb wheel, and the darkfield laser to work on any surface. The last one probably doesn't make a difference at work really, but the rest do for me.

I love both, but the MX master is definitely better for work to me. YMMV

        • Hm. I suppose I'd have to try it to find out.

I do like how the G602 takes AAs, though. Gives me a use for my Eneloops! :)

  • After the Dick Smith price ozbargainers couldn't go back.

  • +1

Damn. Why is the MX anywhere so expensive?

    • Lucky no one (I hope) is going to JB Hi Fi to get it - they're asking $129!

  • Think I need to wait until the price comes down further.

  • I got this one @$87 from officeworks for price match a few weeks ago. Really like this one.

  • Is it good for gaming?

  • +1

If you don't live near a Bing Lee:

MSY sell the Master MX for $89
    Officeworks sells it for $99
Get Officeworks to match MSY and you'll get it for $84.55 :)

  • I picked up two of these for $55 from tricky dickie and within a week they both went into free wheeling. That is they don't ratchet. Apparently this is a common issue which can't be fixed…
