  • Hmmm, will ths work here in Australia?

    Receiving System NTSC

    • Not sure on how it would go receiving our Broadcast channels too.

    • +2

NTSC will not work here. PAL is the Australian standard.

      • -1

yeah - if this was PAL I would consider it if the AUD was a touch higher like before :)

        • +11

PAL/NTSC is irrelevant now (the receiving system is likely referring to the tuner and not whether it can decode PAL/NTSC signals connected through Composite, which it likely can). The real question is does it have a DVB-T tuner?

    • +1

You'll be able to plug it into things like Foxtel boxes and Playstations, but you won't be able to receive free to air TV without a set top box.

It does have a TV tuner, but it's only compatible with the Chinese broadcasting standard.

Think of it as more of a monitor with apps.

I have a Seiki 4K television which I bought from Amazon which only has a United States TV tuner in it, but it doesn't really matter to me because it's always plugged into our Foxtel box.

    Why not this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/244594
Also we use PAL receiving system I believe

If you ignore the cost of shipping and compare this to equal valued tvs in Australia, it's pretty amazing value.

    • +7

Why would you ignore the cost of shipping if you're paying for the shipping?

      • +2

Prices of things are generally a hindrance to their value

      • -1

Which is why I said ignore. Yes I realise the shipping costs but am referring to the comparison of this tv at its cost price vs one of ours.

        • Honestly, I don't see what makes this good value.
Care to provide some comparisons from other deals?

  • +5

Just think about having an issue with this TV and having to send it back to China for repair at your own cost. Shipping from Australia is not cheap at all especially if you are not business customer.

  • +7

Honestly for the price of that you may as well get this

Same size (48") and Samsung panel. Plus you save money and get local warranty :)

    • +9

But it's xiaomi. Need to complete the set with the Mi Band , Sports Camera, Etc

    • +1

Yeah, Sammy on a Sammy panel, vs someone else packing a Sammy panel and asking for more.

  • So much engrish on that page.

    • +4

The translation is brilliant…thin and tenacity! And who cares about the TV, the power plug sounds amazing.

  • +4

Too expensive for a Chinese brand TV. I might consider it if half the price + free shipping.

    • +3

Yeah massive fan of Xiaomi, but I will stick to a local one.

    • -4

Sorry to burst your bubble but 99.9999999% of today's TVs are made in China or some other Asian country

      • "Chinese Brand TV" != Made in China

    • +3

      Yes where is the value?
Who on earth is upvoting this?

      • +1

I'm guessing those fanboys or they have friends and relatives working for Xiaomi back in China? I can't think of any reason why would someone up vote this deal. Don't forget Xiaomi don't have service centre in Australia. If the TV needs repair, the buyer has to pay A$286 both ways to get it fix.

        • Agreed, you'd get done both ways with any kind of warranty claim.

  • the stand looks like high heels lolz

  • 2¢ most tv from oversea not DIGITAL TV ready means need a set top box?

  • imagine the drama if it arrives damaged/dead pixels

    • That'd be an R rated drama for sure.

  • Gold coloured bezels? Gotta be distracting when viewing.
Agreed, this just isn't worth getting

Won't work as a TV in Oz.

  • +3

how is 900 bucks for a 48" TV cheap? we see deals for name brand stuff at that price all the time

  • +1

if it was 4k, i might think its a good deal. Not really a deal on a FHD TV imo

    • +1

      I like the "might".

  • +1

better off buy a 4K from ALDI and get a Xiaomi box than thip this whole thing over, heck there are limit to the economic math over what be shipped across the ocean via express courier

  • That's a very thin TV (same thickness as a phone). But only 2 HDMI ports and no component. Why did they bother with composite?
