  • Just be aware that there are rumors pebble is not doing so well ATM

yeah would be sad to see pebble go

I'm currently on my 4th pebble….. first one screen failed after about 8 months, then, one by one the replacements failed (usually due to water incursion, despite them being 'waterproof'), often within weeks. I'm currently on a pebble time (they sent me one after so many failures of my pebble originals), so we'll see how that goes.
I do really like the pebble…. just it's reliability is very questionable.

I have a time steel and it's always been perfect, never had any problems.

      • were you getting the lines/tearing across the screen?

        • yep….. although my last two just went blank and never started again

      • Mine got water damage as well. Got it replaced under warranty though. Apparently, you shouldn't use the buttons while in water.

        • You guys must be pretty rough with your pebbles or maybe the current generation models are less durable/tough because although I also get occasional screen lines/tearing now, clicking a button to change display clears them, otherwise my original pebble is still going. I surf and it's on my rist 24x7 except for weekly charging and a period downtime when the rubber band wore out and I was slow selecting/obtaining a band to replace it. There/I has/have been concern/ed about the waterproofness (spellcheck disagrees but I think that should be a word :-) partly due to the membrane in the models that beep but/so I've held back upgrading/replacing as mine is still working OK.

          @samlor:
l was the same as you….. Watched a mate of mine (who I originally recommended the pebble to), go through 3 in the space of a few months. I assumed he was really unlucky…. Then with 1 month of warranty left…… My screen started tearing, and the rest is history….. Much as I love the pebble, if this one goes belly up I will look elsewhere……

      • That's pretty good that they sent you a Pebble Time.

I would really love to upgrade but I'm just being sent my fourth Pebble original at the moment, with the previous ones, two of them were due to screen tearing while the other one went blank (that one never had an issue with screen tearing, ironic).

  • There is just little innovation in the space and as the article suggests, no one has come up with the winning formula at the moment. Pebble would have hoped third parties designed attachments for their port (what ever it's called) but this has failed miserably.
My pebble steel is failing after 18 months of use (right side buttons have stopped working) and I am undecided if there is a good replacement. I'd probably be happy with a first gen second hand off eBay for $50. The pebble time timeline hasn't done much for me.

  • You can get these cheaper using the smart watch pro deal. Soon I should be able to get a link that anybody can use to get the smart watch pro discount without an iOS app purchase, see discussion here.

Nah, not cheaper than DSE, who have 60% off the RRP of $279 (so $111.60)

      Any stock?

      • They did last night, 2 white and 1 red (Pacific Fair, QLD)

  • Not cheapest ever. Wait for another price drop ozfam

  • I had pebble. Had issues with water.
I've had Pebble Time for about 6 months. No problems yet.

  • I've had great support from pebble but having gone through 2 pebbles replaced for line tearing, I'm not enthusiastic for buying another.

  • Used Pebble Time Steel and mine broke after swimming.
Must have pressed a button while it was wet.
    Support has been terrible.

  • Have had 1st generation Pebble and Pebble Time. No issues whatsoever, pressed buttons in water/wet with no problems.
Must be a matter of luck.

Yeah, it sounds like their quality control is not water tight so to speak.
