Feral Sly Fox Summer Ale 16x 330ml - $40 @ Dan Murphy's (Online Only with Click and Collect)

150

Crafty WA brewers, Feral have added a permanent fixture to their range, the Sly Fox - a sneaky little summer (all year round) ale that's light on its feet but still packs a punch of flavour. The beer is lightly filtered for a vibrant hoppy, citrus aroma with a clean bitterness that pairs perfectly with a hot summers day.

16 330ml beers for $40… Not a bargain in my eyes

    • -2

Works out to $60 per 24… Not much of a bargain…

      • +11

You surely can't be comparing prices of 'craft' beer to those of mass produced swill.

        • -2

Hop Thief for $10 a 6-pack is now my benchmark

        • +1

@jv: Yeah but Hop Thief cannot be considered craft beer now that it's Lion Nathan.

        • -1

          @thrillho:

but Hop Thief cannot be considered craft beer

          Try it…

        • +1

          @jv:
…that was once off over a year ago?

        • @jv: James Squire is an entry level craft beer, and is priced to suit. This is not an entry level craft beer. I wouldn't pay $10 for Hop Thief, although I wouldn't pay $5 for it either.

      • +2

You save $20 from normal price…how is that not a bargain?

        • $60 is too much

(I noticed you didnt upvote the deal either)

        • +3

@jv: $60 is too much for whom? If you are concerned about price why not get Coopers Birell Ultra Light for $24 a case of 24?

How much is too much is subjective. You clearly don't care about beer, therefore don't understand the value of this deal. I don't like this beer, but I still looked here if there was something else, possibly like the Hop Hog of which was mentioned further down as a potential replacement if they are out of this one.

Seriously man, if you like this beer, and you save $20, then this is a deal. If you buy cheap beer, then you prob wouldn't be interested in good beer anyway.

        • -2

          @jv:
$60 is too much in your opinion. $40/16 or $60/24 is about as cheap as you'll get for craft beers and for Feral this is in my opinion an excellent deal.

I don't really understand why you want to give your opinion on a product you don't even want.

Also, who cares whether a commenter upvotes or not. Stop giving your opinions on products you're not even interested in then bullying anyone who challenges you.

        • @ripsnorter:

$60 is too much in your opinion.

          correct

        • @ripsnorter:

I don't really understand why you want to give your opinion on a product you don't even want.

          I don't really care

        • @ripsnorter:

Stop giving your opinions on products you're not even interested in

That's not going to happen unless their is a commenting rule to enforce it.

        • @jv:

Well, you've misquoted me, so thanks for that.

Of course there isn't going to be a rule preventing people commenting on products they do not understand or are not interested in, I think most people would think that common sense would cover that…

      That's like saying a BMW M3 for $120,000 (usually, $160,000) is not a bargain, since a Mazda 3 is $30,000.
Different people have different tastes. You must compare apples with apples. Compared to previous prices, maybe the Sly Fox beer IS a bargain. Compared to other beers, it may not be. Whether you should spend your money on it or not is your own opinion. However, you must understand that just because it's not as cheap per bottle as Toohey's New, doesn't mean it's not a bargain.

      • -1

        That's like saying a…

        No it's not… He didn't compare any brands…

He didn't, but he definitely implied it.

My taste buds prefer scotch (BMW)
Craft beer (mazda) is great when it tastes good, but again 16 330ml beers for $40 is not a bargain.

        • So any scotch over $20 is not a bargain then? So Johny walker red for you only? If you can get a premium scotch for a discount, isn't that a bargain?

        • @OnlinePred: its like a 500ml Johnny Walker red for $40.
          Not a bargain

This is a deal because it's cheaper than usual but Not a bargain!

        • @ozy: Unless you love the stuff? Then you save 25%?

"This is a deal because it's cheaper than usual but Not a bargain!" If you can't list sales, or savings, what is this site for? Please define bargain.

Btw do you seriously only drink John Walker red? And compare it to a bmw?

        • -1

@OnlinePred: No Johnny walker Red is what my hilux runs on.

Deals can be listed on ozbargain.
Bargains; a thing bought or offered for sale much more cheaply than is usual or expected.

I expect $40 would purchase me more than 16 beers at 330mls each

        • @ozy: Just because you cheap out doesn't make it not a bargain. 25% off is a great deal if you like this beer. Really not sure what you are on about. This is a thing offered for sale much cheaper than usual. By your very definition this is a bargain.

        • @OnlinePred: I don't cheap out, I find bargains and enjoy saving money.
If a can of lemonade was 75cents and was usually $1 its a good deal.
If you could buy 4 cans of lemonade for $75, I'd call that a BARGAIN

If you love the deal so much then give it an upvote.

        • +1

@ozy: if you hate beer so much why look here?

$75 for 4 cans of $1 lemonade is not a bargain.

I would love it more if it was hop hog, just find it weird people with no clue about beer are going on and on about not being a bargain.

        • -1

@OnlinePred: I love beer, I just dont seem to have as much damage to the brain from it as others..
+1 the deal if you love it.

        • +1

@ozy: Don't comment on something you don't care about? Some of us are willing to spend money on quality, and when quality is on sale, it is worthy of putting on ozbargain, after all what is ozbargain without saving money in your life?

        • @OnlinePred: I will comment on anything I want too mate, this is a forum.
Good to see you finally gave it a +1

        • +1

          @ozy:

I support what OnlinePred has said.

If there was a deal for the latest iPhone for $500 I wouldn't bag it out because I'm happier spending less on a different type of phone. If people want to spend a decent amount of money on a product that is of a higher quality then I am not going to bag out the deal just because it doesn't interest me. If people are prepared to pay a higher amount on a high quality craft beer and it is cheaper than normal then it can be both a deal and a bargain, depending on perspective.

        • @ripsnorter:

16 330ml beers for $40… Not a bargain in my eyes

I'm not bagging it out, I never said it wasn't a good deal, its just not a bargain for 16 x 330ml of beer

Hence me not upvoting the deal

I was asked to define a bargain and I copied and pasted from the dictionary what it means, the key word in bold is there to show why I don't believe it is a "bargain"

        • +1

          @ozy:

          Fair point, my apologies.

        • @ripsnorter: No apology needed, after all, this is a forum.
          Time for a beer?

        • @OnlinePred: haha! Just realised I had a $ infront of the 75

      • -3

Beer is never the BMW in any car-booze analogy.

        • +1

Yea spot on, BMW is more like the Bundy Rum and COLA, for cashed up bogans.

  • Urban Crusader Double Hopped Lager 6 pack $8.50 or $34 a slab @ First Choice Liquor.

    • Yumm, 4% alc macrobrew…

not that the OP's deal is any better - from memory Feral Brewing ramped up production significantly for their summer ale, and it likely suffers from lower alcohol (i.e. 4.2 or 4.5%) as well. So on pure value, it's (and I can't believe i'm saying this) Urban Crusader.

No wait - TAP WATER FTW!!!

  • This beer has a nice taste but is overly carbonated which just wrecks it. Not really worth the equivalent of $60 for a REAL case…

  • Beats the $12 4pks we had last month(?)

  • Where is Hop Thief selling for $10 a six pack?

  • That special is 12 months old - long expired

I will rephrase the question…. Where can you get a CURRENT offer on Hop Thief. For $10 a six pack .

    • There isn't. That's the entire point though. Anything since that price will be judged against it, as it was a very good price for it.

  • That special is 12 months old - long expired

I will rephrase the question…. Where can you get a CURRENT offer on Hop Thief. For $10 a six pack .

    • +1

Do you want to rephrase it a third time? Or just repeat the second question a third time?

    • There isn't a current offer for Hop Thief. It was one of the best beer offers we've had.

  • I prefer minky musky sly old stoaty stoaty stoat beer

    • +1

It's pretty good this beer. I got some on Dan's month specials for $10 for 4 pack. I think this is about the going rate. 20 for $40 would be a deal. At $60 for 24 there are plenty of other options out there.

  • +1

Just got the call from Dans saying they don't actually have any stock to fill my order so they offered to swap it for hop hog . Not the first time they haven't had stuff in stock but always offer an alternative that is more than fair . Great service .

    • Hop hog is a win there

    • They've been really great with me too in the past.

      Nice little pickup for yourself.

  • Didn't work for me, in adelaide. $47.84 for me. 4x4packs
