Hmmm android? By the pic it looks like its running windows:///

    • +2

Correct. It's a Windows phone not Android.

    • +1

Yep, Target are all over the details man. I have copied and pasted the specs from CVonC's link.

The Lumina that runs Android 5.0

      • +2

        don't forget waterproof!

        • +5

Heh machine washable. Clearly someone was sleepy when typing this.

    • +2

Android 5.0 looks different to how I remember it.

  • +7

    Lumina!

  • -7

Is the Windows 8 on this phone the full OS, or a mobile version like Win7 on Lumia 530.

Also is this Lumina 640 we're discussing here really the Lumia 640 Windows phone on clearance from $289, https://www.target.com.au/p/nokia-lumia-64-mobile-phone/5815….

There are at least a dozen wrong details, and if it is the 5" LTE phone, does Target sell LSD batteries too? I want some of theirs.

I'm asking because I'll try the local Target in the morning, but I assume this Lumina is just a mistake advert??

    • +1

Outright unlocked is $289, this is locked to Optus prepaid. As long as you get the Optus one it will be this price.

      • -7

Thanks. Any idea about Windows 8. I mean can .exe files install and run like on a desktop?

        • +3

It's a mobile OS, you wouldn't be able to run .exe or use it like a desktop.

        • @Oversimplified:
Thanks, you saved me a trip.

        • -8

People here are voting down stupid, right?
But Microsoft are creating the 'con'.
I got caught with the lousy mis-advertised Windows mobile OS on Nokia 530 and 610.

Nokia may have good hardware in the Lumia 640, but there mobile user program base and scope of usability is comparatively 'RUBBISH'.

I'm down voting, as this product is inferior overall, and advertising as Windows OS, instead of Windows mobile is misleading.

Am I the only one who think Windows phones are worse than other choices?

Picked up this up for $99 couple of weeks back upgraded to Win10 1511, unlocked for free using Optus chat.

    • +3

How you get it unlocked via chat ? Said you were going overseas ?

      • +1

that is how i did it

        • +1

I tried that. Been with Optus 5+ years and all "Gordon" offered me was a link to pay $25 to unlock it.

        • +3

          @GregRust: Try again

        • +2

I tried that, but they said "Let me request you to come back to chat a week or so before" otherwise I would have to use up to $80 of recharge credit to get it unlocked for free, if I used less than $80 credit, I would have to pay $80 to unlock it.

    • You wouldn't happened to have saved the chat transcript would you as I am just a little be sceptical of this :-)

      • That's how mine got unlocked. OK phone, some features I'd like are missing and according to the experts not enough apps.

  • anyone own one i heard front camera is not good

    • +4

Impressionist painting, but not bad for $70

    • 0.9 megapixels, it's hard to believe.

  • Can this be used on Optus 4g and Telstra 4g once it's unlocked?

    • +3

Yep, has all the Australian bands for every telco!

It has a lot of LTE bands, mind you.

You could use this in the USA with AT&T or T-Mobile too and it would be pretty compatible.

  • +2

    I miss my Lumia 640.

Hands down the best battery life, offline Podcast storing, glorified Pocket WiFi device known to man.

Shame you can't use anything but Microsoft IE or Edge. Maybe Opera? No ad blocking on mobile makes things crash.

That's what kills it for me.

But if you really just want from your phone what people wanted in 2003, then this is awesome.

    • +5

The browser and app gap are the downers. The hardware you get for $69 is unbelievable value.

      • +3

I wanted to smash my phone when I launched Facebook Messenger.

For a company that also owns the perfectly functional Whatsapp, there is surely a big difference.

  • 1 left at Rockingham City 8.20am … thanks op.

  • Two Left at Indooroopilly. Just bought it one there.Who can help with unlock it?

    • if you are going overseas optus live chat might unlock it at no cost

      • I will go overseas…But I am amaysim user, kinda optus usher…That is the problem. I may need the current oputs user to help with it but could not find one around me…Crying…

        • It comes with an Optus sim that you could activate before chatting with them online. Not sure if it was necessary but that's what I did.
          Chat link: http://www.optus.com.au/shop/notices/service-chat

        • +2

@babo: Chat worked for me … didn't need to activate sim.

        • @babo: I activated the sim and then chatted with them for the unlock. I was told that the phone was just activated and I need to recharge.

        • +1

@thunderduck: Can you please chat with them again to help unlock mine? LOL…

        • @leiwang0219: It helps if you target a reason to keep the customer happy. Have a think about it and try again tomorrow.

  • +4

This limited edition Lumina phone featuring Android was only released in a few select countries.

  • +1

Got one of these for my wife after the last $99 deal. Finally managed to pry her away from her old iPhone 4s and she loves it.

  • +3

I mentioned the going overseas bit didn't work the first couple of times they wanted my number to put me through to someone that would unlock it for a fee. I just ended the session tried again 30 minutes later came across someone who was pretty chatty told them that I have used optus before with another wireless device, asked for a sim number then sent through unlock code.

  • +1

Nice price and phone OP, FYI, For WA metro, NO stock at Joondalup, Whitfords, innaloo and Stirling. All but Whitfords store say they had stock until shortly after opening this morning (Ozbargained). Never mind.

  • +5

This really is an amazing phone. I've only recently swapped from this to the Lumia 930 that was on here a couple of weeks back. Battery life is amazing, it's very responsive and if your into streaming and mirroring to a TV, this will do the job for sure.

As for the supposed "app gap", I'm not really sure what people are on about. I can Netflix, Facebook, AFL Live, 6tag (Instagram app that is way better than Instagram), Fitbit … I could keep going. You won't get junky games and gimmicky apps with this one, and one of the only noteable apps missing is snapchat, if you actually use it.

    ~$69 is an absolute bargain!

    • +5

I don't want gimmicky apps either, but there's plenty of them to be found on the windows phone store. I want a decent browser for one, edge is terrible. App gap isn't just about missing apps, it's more about putting out poorly supported apps and apps missing functionality that Android and iOS users have. Take the fitbit app version on windows phone, someone that has purchased one of the better model fitbit that want notifications from their phone won't be able to receive notifications from a windows phone on their fitbit. Personally as a Lumia 930 owner I care about missing this functionality, and that's because the phone doesn't have a notification light. A lot the apps you list as examples of filling in the gap are simply poorer offerings to what Android or iOS users get to experience. Something basic like joining a group in facebook is missing on the windows phone version. Perhaps you don't care about having a poorer version or not seeing updates for years, but other people do. Especially if they are used to using an Android phone or iPhone then try switching. Then there's apps that just don't have any third party alternatives like the government apps, banking apps etc. This is what people are referring to when they are talking about the app gap.

The phone is a steal at this price. Better than anything else for certain.

    • +5

As an owner of 4 Lumias, and WP user since WP7s release, who just switched to Android a week ago, dismissing the "app gap" is silly. I'm not a big app user myself, but now if someone mentions an app or I see one on TV I don't have to wonder if I'll be able to get it like I used to, I just know I will.

There are plenty of apps missing, not just snapchat. I now have an official TPG app to check my usage, a foxtel go app, official hangouts, google+, Brisbane Broncos, Netgear, private internet access, google authenticate, google drive, YouTube, hungry jacks, Firefox, steam, Kodi, translink, pluralsight, and reddit apps. None of these exist on Windows Phone.

As someone who has both, the app gap is massive and it IS a problem. It is slowly getting better, with companies now starting to jump on the UWP train, but it's still a long way off.

      • Readit is a great Reddit app on Windows phones, and my favorite Reddit app. Wish there was one as good on Android. 😀

Optus don't even have an app. Lol and another thing the Telstra app doesn't have live tile.

        • Yeh Readit and Bacon are much better than the android reddit app, and I wish they were on Android, but just pointing out that there is no official reddit WP app.

        • @MrFunSocks:

Yeah that's true. I'm using baconreader on Android. Relay is nice Android reddit app. I uninstalled the official app straight away. Lol

      • Add to that list the Nissan car monitoring app, and some crypto key apps that I have come across are not available. Some of these things are worked around by using a good browser, but realistically the browser needs to be desktop quality. Some might be worked around if they brought x86 functionality so that you could run the desktop versions of apps, is that happening with version 10?

        • Kind of, but more no than yes. They are allowing companies to virtualise x86 apps on Azure and basically let users remote desktop to them from their phones.

    • Facebook Messenger and the Facebook app are terrible on WP.

Messenger takes ages to load up a chat.

Honestly, I could be pretty alright if I convinced all my friends to get Whatsapp instead of Facebook, but Facebook is so necessary for uni. :(

      Mobile IE is atrocious.

IF they could improve and port Firefox and fix Facebook I'd be using a Lumia 640 again.

  • +1

Quite a few stock at Carlingford NSW

  • Anybody find any in WA (Perth)?

    None in Joondalup or Whitfords.

    • was about to ask the same question. Saw some in Morley a few weeks back, not sure now. Hopefully someone knows.

    • Bought the last one at Bullcreek WA

  • +1

    Is this the Chevy Lumina?

  • Thanks I think I got about the last one in qld.

  • +1

Slightly off-topic - I wanted to buy a phone (Alcatel View 5.0) that was marked down to $41.30 (from $59). I forgot my card and had returned the next day to buy it.

However, I found out some w**ker bought all 5 in one transaction in the morning (I came in the afternoon).

Oh well, I'm sure there's another phone that'll be as cheap.

    • +1

Yeah broden I'm sure enjoying this deal. There was at least 3 left in Bundaberg this morning. Marked $159. :)

    Care Instructions

     "Machine washable"

I thought this was just a joke

…checked target website and this is actually displayed as a "feature"

    • +5

To be fair its actually true.
I put mine through the wash, It doesn't work anymore but its Sure looks shiny and NEW

    • +1

Lol its not sealed so it will leak inside.

  • Thanks. I got one today. I picked one at Doncaster, VIC. Two more left at there when I've bought.

For someone wants to get one.. Camberwell, Chadstone, Victoria Garden are out of stock.

  • Sold out at Carlingford NSW

    • From quite a few to sold out within 3hrs… Oh man :P

  • +1

Got one from the Hobart (Tas) store. There were still about 5 left. Tried webchat to unlock, got told it was unlocked. I then placed my Telstra SIM in and it asked me for an unlock code :(

  • +1

Fantastic phone for the price - I payed $99 for mine (on a previous offer!).

Happy for my choice though - all worth it (& got all the apps I need - banking included).

    • Also very happy. Was concerned that coming from the lumia 630 I would be a disappointed in the upgrade, but the 640 feels like next generation hardware.

    • typo - I meant "paid" ;-)

  • I recommend NOT upgrading to WP 10. It's far worse than 8.1.

    • I wouldn't but they're apps I use only on available on 10.

      • There are actually less apps on wp10

        • +2

The apps I use that I can't find on 8.1

          Aussie tv ftw!
          Client for Hangouts
          Ozbargain
          Cricket Australia

And then there's all the apps that are redesigned and are better on 10 than 8.1.

Imo 8.1 is still better. It's stable, runs smoother and is better on battery life. 10 is slowly improving, but with my 640 I have already had it freezed up a few times. Performance is a bit down in 10, even doing something basic like tapping on different settings in the settings menu there's a couple sec delay while it loads.

    • +2

IMHO WP10 is better - I did install the "Upgrade Advisor"-app (and all related/subsequent updates).

      • The only thing to watch out (ie. before doing the WP10 upgrade/while on WP8.1), is to make sure you have all the "English - Australian" Keyboard and Regional settings installed first.
  • +1

Its actually 5 inch screen op

    • +1

Sorry, this whole bargain post was a bit of a joke in the early hours of the morning after a few drinks. Woke up and besides the title being amended, everything else was left as is.

Those specs are taken direct from the Target website which are still inaccurate.

Thanks OzBargain for giving Target and Optus a busy day and not deleting the post.

  • +1

Sold out in Castle Hill at noon. I managed to get the last one.

  • +2

Office works price matched this deal if you're hunting for stock. Got it for $65 - crazy bargain.

    • Thank you, got one for $65.84 from OfficeWorks :)

I guess Target doesnt have stock anymore.

      • Anyone who managed to get a price matched from OW are lucky. I was told at one OW that they WONT price matched with "Clearance"and "liquidation"stocks… :(

  • I like this phone, but I can't get it to sync my yahoo mail correctly, otherwise call quality and the phone in general is great (im not a heavy app user)

  • Can someone really provide the dummies guide to unlocking this phone

    1. I chatted to someone using the online optus chat telling them that I was soon to be travelling overseas
    2. a) They referred me to the online unlock link
      b) Received an error message when doing so
    3. a) Someone from Optus then called my number. They asked for my make/model and IMEI
      b) I asked them do I need a unlock code. They told me no need and just switch off and on and in around 20 minutes it would be unlocked
    4. More than an hour and when I put in a Aldi SIM the phone says Device locked.

Am I doing anything right? Please help!!

    • Optus cant unlock it on their end they supply an unlock code to you and you enter it when asked at start up with a non optus sim inserted.

    • +2

sounds like you chatted with a 3rd world country call centre who have no clue.

      • It sounded like a 3rd world call centre. I called last night (Saturday). Is it better to call during business hours?

  • I picked on up today thanks..im an optus customer anyway
    will try to unlock tomorrow
    cheers op

  • hmm the lumia 650 is taking pre orders for $299 at microsoft store 1 digit away in model number and add over $200!

  • -3
    • The item code in the OP matches the ticket in store.

    • nope that one isn't machine washable.

    • +1

No that's for the unlocked version. This deal is for the prepaid Optus version. Didn't see the unlocked version in store. :)

The 650 hasn't been released yet and will be cheaper from telcos and retailers like the 640 was. You are comparing rrp prices, ozbargainers don't pay rrp!

  • I had a 930 , still work till now like it , easy to use , win 10 now 's getting better everyday, used to have S4 ( broken down after drop ) , change to 930 , at first I don't like it but after get used to it I like it .

  • It is raining but I will be there

  • +3

OK, confirmed, If you are nice in the live chat and tell them you need oversees use, they will hand out the code. I activated the SIM first and added no credit. Have never been an Optus customer. Be sure to give them a 10 for being awesome if you pull it off!

    • +1

Wow…I failed again.. I am not the one who can handle this. I will pay you if you can help.. LOL

      • Is it bad to hand out your IMEI number? If not, I might just type it on here. As I have no luck getting my mobile unlocked.
