Wait, so it's not selected titles? ANY bluray?

    "Masness? THIS IS SPARSA!"

    • +1

      Fine print says

Cheapest one free. Trade not Supplied, Maximum of 2 copies of the same title in the same transaction. Exclude Pre-orders, Devices & Blank Media.

      • +1

        Fine print says

I think I'm falling for you.

  • Star wars here I come!

    • Why not get two?

      • +33

I think he/she is already getting two. Otherwise it would've been "Star War".

        • +6

          Star Warses?

        • @muncan:

          Star arses?

        • I slept with an astronaut once and got Star Warts is that the same thing?

    • $19.60 at big W
with 30% off sale thats on
not advertised online. I bought today

  • +1

    Masness=Madness?

    • Thanks updated.

  • +2

So I can buy a $50-100 boxset and get another one completely free? Seems a bit too good to be true. That's basically 50% off all blu rays.

    • +1

Yeah, will it work with the $260 Pokemon DVD box set? I doubt it.
And how about UHD Blu Rays? They're new and $50 each.

      • Exactly. I'd say it's selected titles.

      • Why do you doubt it?

        • Because JB has never done buy 1 get 1 free off everything and it seems a little too good to be true.

        • -1

@Yuri Lowell: They have. I remember once shopping at JB instore and they had banners saying.. Buy a bluray player and get 50% off all blurays.

        • +2

@overshopper: True but not really the same. You had to buy a $100 blu ray player.

        • @Yuri Lowell: yeh but the profit made on that would have been marginal

      • +1

Wow didn't know UHD blu-rays were out. What happens when you try to watch an UHD movie on a 3440x1440 monitor. Does it render at 3440x1440 or does it downscale to 1080P?

        • I think that would depend on your graphics card (assuming you're watching on a PC)?

        • @brotherrfranciz: I don't think a UHD bluray player exists for PC yet? So it would have to be via a UHD blu ray player.

        • +2

@Synk: for PC use a blu-ray reader which can read quadruple layer discs, just where to find software

        • You won't be able to watch it without a blu-ray drive that can read UHD-66 file structure and software(so far there's apparently none) that will actually play it too and don't forget you need a UHD monitor with HDCP 2.2, HDMI 2.0(though I'm sure you can just connect it via DisplayPort 1.3/1.4…), HDR and all that jazz…oh and I read that it will actually make use of those wide gamut monitors….

    • They have done 50% off a few times though.

  • NVM already resolved. Here

    • If I'm looking to buy more than 2 blurays/boxsets in this B1G1F deal, is it better to split up my purchase and use the coupon in the second transaction?

  • helll yea!

  • Looks good. I have a couple I need, just need to figure out what to get free with them.

  • +1

so i could get one seasons of game of thrones and the next season free ?!

    • +3

the box set of seasons 1 to 5 would be $79.50 each if you go halves with someone on the deal.
      it's very tempting.

      • i defiantly would if someone was keen!

        • if you're in melbourne, im definitely keen

        • @lewl:

i sure am il PM you

  • Aaarghhhhh…. bought Star Wars this afternoon, watched it tonight…

    • Return it. Buy it again. :)

      • +9

No buy it again, return it with the old receipt.

        • +1

          Awesome.

    • same as me

  • Breaking Bad Complete Limited Edition is down to $144. So buy 2 of these and it'll be $72 each, as cheap as last time when it was 50% off with 20% stacked on top.

    • 20% off blu-rays ends tonight, so it will be back up to $180.

      • well then we have 9 mins ^^

oh wait the 2 for 1 offer is only from the 12th of may.. gg then ><

    • $180 now

    • +1

Yeaaahh! I'm with you. So what were you saying again?

    • +1

Do they have a price match policy?

      • -1

Yeah, otherwise I wouldn't of posted this.

        • -2

Then I don't know why you got so many negs :-)

  • +2

I can't imagine this would be for all titles… That would be crazy.
Plus it would be incredibly sneaky to do it the week after having a 20% off sale…

    • I just spent $72 on blu rays today too :(

  • +4

came across this page on jb hi fi that says blu-ray buy 1 get 1 free… can it be true?

    • They've had one of these sales before, and there was a selection of about 30 movies. It's probably a holdover from that, or a placeholder for this week.
I just don't believe they'd do this for every blu-ray.

      • +1

        "showing 37 - 72 of 4889"

Looks like a lot more than 30 movies to me … 4889 ain't bad

        • Sale hasn't started yet.

    • Hope that link is the right one, has pretty much all anime collections on it, which would be extremely good value for buy 1 get 1 free

  • Thanks OP!

  • This will be my post nights reward - sleep deprived shopping woohoo

  • +1

All you stupidly expensive boxsets I've been wanting! You're mine!

  • +3

Not that impressed JB. I usually love your sales, but you have increased most blu ray prices (read single movie blu rays) back to their RRP - 50% off on which is still more expensive that the B2G1F + 20% off combos that you seem to have every couple or so months. There are a few BOX sets that might attract purchases, but Amazon and Zavvi still work out cheaper (in their random markdowns on box sets) on these even with our lousy exchange rate.

    • +1

As someone who imports a lot from the US/UK there are plenty of movies that are cheaper to buy here than from Amazon.

      • Edit: Wrong topic. :p

    • +2

I partially agree. They are just puting some makeup on their usual promotions. Usually the 3 for $30 (which is the new 2 x $20) are the $15.98 titles. With 3 for $30, each title ends up being $10, plus the 20% off ends up at $8. With the b1g1 they are still at $8 (actually $7.99).

However, for new titles (if you are willing to pay launch-day prices) and box sets, this should be amazing.

  • I got told a few years ago that JB were looking at both bringing in white goods(they were correct on that), and moving outta Movies (and possibly music), I get a feeling it will happen.

    • +4

You wouldn't download a washing machine. Sounds like a sensible strategy.

      • There also isn't much profit on media, I'd imagine the large shelf space too doesn't help.

        • But there is much higher volume and return customers. Also other than online sales, they don't have much in the way of competition for home media.

Maybe one day they'll get out of the business, although I suspect it'll be because they get forced out due to digital distribution before they make that jump themselves. When that day comes I suspect they'll be closing a lot of stores…I'm not sure areas like the Brisbane CBD need or could sustain three JB's in a 500m radius selling predominantly white goods that in many cases will need to be sent via delivery truck to the customers.

        • Exactly. I still go in sometimes to check their vinyl collections, they almost charge twice as what is available online. Plus streaming is totally killing off hard copy media.

      • +1

        I would if I could.

      • +1

This comment reminds me of those old anti pirating pre-rolls on DVD's. "You wouldn't steal a car"

  • Anyone know if this is in store only? or online only?

    • +1

Well that looks like a Catalogue…. so I'd imagine both.

  • -7

does that include all Blu-Ray?? keen towards PS4 games. ;-)

  • I'm dubious about it being for all Blu-ray… but I'll go down and have a look at a couple of box sets I'm interested in just in case.

  • +1

Wow, looks like all titles possibly? If so that would be awesome!! This time I will be organised and actually take a picture of my collection before going in, getting excited and buying a title I already have…

    • I got an electronic list… though it's still caused some duplicates in the past :(

  • +1

went into a JB store this morning (Indooroopilly QLD) & spoke to the store manager. He said the B1G1F offer is valid on only a selected range of Bluray Box Sets. Wouldn't give me any specific titles but said that sets over $150 are not included in the deal!! :-( :-( However, can't hurt to ask when the deal starts on Thursday tho! good luck to everyone

    • This would make sense based on the list from the link in one of the comments above. It was all box sets, which also included dvd/bluray combos for whatever reason

      • The link above was sorted by price, hence why all the box sets appeared first. If you click on the last page button for that deal it shows a bunch of cheap blu-rays.

        • You win this round, person with the logic to load more than two pages…

    • any box sets $149? :D

    • +1

No where in the terms does it say 'items over $150 excluded' so I will argue this hard if they try that.

  • Saw then making the banners up at lunch. Bluerays in store do appear to be 10 dollars more than matching dvds which i dont think is usually the case.

There is nothing to say its not all bluerays. The only conditions writen on the massive banner. Was purchased in one transaction. Max of two copies per title. Will not serve trade

    • DVDs have always been cheaper than the Blu Ray equivalent.

  • Will UHDs be under this promo

    • +1

      yes apparentely

    • Any good 4K movies released?

        • Thank you.

      • 'The Revernant' and 'The Amazing Spiderman 2' are the only UHD titles JB sells that are actually truely UHD, and not a simple upscale from a 2K source. 'Sicario' is also on that list, but JB doesn't seem to stock it.

        • That is good to know. Sicario and The Revernant are alright movies.
Pity 4K movies are still quite expensive.

Also pity that my wife says "No more blu-rays!!"

        • +1

The Revenant is pre order, so won't be eligible for this sale.

        • That's true, but The Martian is the only HDR enabled UHD title they sell: http://www.highdefdigest.com/blog/ultra-hd-not-always-4k/

  • Was thinking. Its the cheapest items that will be free. Not the cheapest of the two similar priced items if buying 4 or more.

For a buy 1 Get 1 free deal I like to buy two similar priced items. To get the cheaper of the two for free not the cheapest items of the multi buy order.

    For example if I buy 4 items. 2 @ $100 and 2 @ $50 in the one transaction.

Will I need to make sure to scan the similar priced items first and then get the discount applied every two scanned items.
eg will the checkout take into account 2 x $100 100 is cheapest then 2 x $50 50 is cheapest. Total $150 when scanned?
    Or just calculate the discount based on the total order eg 2 x $100 + 2 x $50. 4 Items 2 x $50 are the cheapest Pay $200?

Wonder how this works as above if deal is also available on-line?

    • +1

From my experience, I can say it's going to be the 2nd option. Their systems are quite clever in this matter.

    • With your example: 4 items, 2 @ $100 and 2 @ $50 — the 2 @ $50 will be free.
If you want 1 @ $100 and 1 @ $50 free, you will need to do separate transactions/orders.
This is the way all systems do it. The only exception has been Myer in recent times.
You can do a test order online once the deal is active to be sure.
