180

Samsung PLS 27" LS27E370DSJ/XY 4ms Wireless Charging Support LED Monitor. Was on sale at $329 last month, price went back to $399, and dropped down to $309 today. Yes 27inch with ony 1920x1080 resolution probably only good for oldies like me. It's a PLS panel though with 4ms GtG response time, and Qi-compatible wireless charging for your phones.

I am not old, but I still prefer 1080p.

  • Monitor newb here, does anyone know if there are better alternatives in this price range? It is within my budget and I'm after a monitor for general web/doc and light gaming. Also I have only used a 21" Acer (at home) and at work it's like 2 x 22" AOC monitors so will 27" be too big? I've seen on youtube people doing split screen on a single monitor hence why i'm looking at a bigger monitor.

I reckon Samsung is a decent brand for this price. I bought it at $420 in 2015. Size wise it's pretty good, at first you might feel like it's a bit big, but you'll get used to it in a short while. And once you go big you won't look back. I use it for web/docs, and also for Xbox gaming and it's decent. I do feel it's slightly too big when I'm playing games like LoL or FPS though. The thing I love about this monitor is that The bezels are tiny, so it won't feel as big as it actually is, and takes up less space, compared to another 27 inch of its class. I would def go for it.

Personally I don't think 1080 is enough for a 27" but that comes down to preference and how far you sit from the screen. For 1080 I would stick with 24, though YMMV and this is a pretty good buy.

      • Thanks for your replies. I will probably wait for the next higher resolution monitor sale. The LG 29" Ultra wide looks good too.

  • Just bought one.
Been using 24 inch monitors for more than 5 years
Will let you know what I think of this one
I checked out the higher resolution monitors at that size and they display windows 10 in microscopic view.

    • DPI settings probably need to be turned all the way up to 144.

        Short review on monitor

        Positives;
Colours on screen are deep and vibrant
        Quality of video is excellent
        Brightness is typical samsung excellence
Menu options are easy and plentiful
Wireless charging is a genius integration
Size of monitor is excellent and efficient
        Value for money is great

        Negatives;
        Stand is not height adjustable
        No Vesa mount
The white colour theme is not my favorite, black would have looked much nicer

Overall it's been an excellent buy. It's great for using 2 applications side by side. I even used 4 application split up and it was very handy and the extra desktop space was a great advantage.
Never once looked back at my 24inch.definetly recommend it, it's great value for money in my opinion

        • Thanks for your insight. What's your opinion on the resolution (1920 x 1080)? I must admit it is very tempting after what you wrote but everyone talks about higher resolution (21:9) and this one is only 16:9. I'm no expert but the monitors I'm using (22" ones) are already 16:9, so that makes me feel I should look for higher res? Not sure lol but if I stretch my budget a bit more I could be looking at the LG 29" Ultra wide…

@sky blu: I have only used 16:10 monitors in 24inch.
I currently have 4 at home all dell's
My needs have changed and I went from multi monitor setup to only 1 24inch 16:10 dell.

After using this monitor I have honestly found a positive improvement. Size wise it's excellent and productivity wise it's also great except that it's a bit high on the stand.

Before I bought this monitor I went to Harvey Norman and checked out all there 27 inch monitors.i saw the high res monitors and they displayed windows 10 using really small fonts and task bars etc. I know there is a way around it but not every application on Windows 10 caters for high res. Picture wise I know you can't compare 2k or 4k to 1080p but if you need the higher res than definitely get it.

For my needs as a desktop monitor the high res was not a must. I mainly use my pc for gaming (mostly driving games), media consumption, browsing and the odd office project. This monitor suited my requirement perfectly and was a welcomed upgrade.

The picture quality is very nice. I sit close to my monitor and I didn't find it ugly to watch it's actually a very pleasing picture. For $309 it's great value.

        • @tighta55: Thank you. I think I'm sold. Will see if I can go pick one up tmr (South East VIC). Does it come with screen splitting software? How do you do yours?

        • @sky blu: I'm not sure if it comes with screen spitting software… I meant I can open 2 applications side by side in Windows
This size screen can comfortably accommodate..

Hmm probably better get one this instead of two 21" for example. (Budget $300).
Is this good enough to split the screen one chrome one excel for example? Or two comes.

You should probably buy an Ultra-wide monitor instead. Those are 2560 x 1080p which is 21:9 and will fall in the $200~250 range.

However, after seeing it for myself on my ex-manager's desk, the screen is actually fairly squat and has roughly the same vertical height as a 20 inch monitor. Yes it was wide, but it simply wasn't tall enough.

My workspace had two 24" Dell Ultrasharps, and working on it is simply glorious. I have the same setup at home now with 1 BenQ G2420HD and 1 AOC 24" monitor,

      • yeah been watching that LG 25"for a while. maybe need to increase budget and get 29" model (same series, the lg ultra wide)

  • Mind you, don't use this as second screen for connecting to Mac. It needs higher than 1080 for 'better viewing experience'.

  • Omg i got quoted in someones deal

  • Im old but now that I've been using a Dell 27" @ 2560x1440 It would be hard to go back to 1920x1080

  • hi OP and @tighta55, how did you get the $309 price? the link shows $399 and same on their "parts list" catalogue for 14/5/2016 - 16/5/2016. Is this price specific to any particular state/location?

    • I got an email from MSY with this Samsung monitor for $309 and it says "available instore or online Mon 16/05/16 to Wed 18/05/16". Hope it helps

      • Thanks @sky blu, I am interested in getting this Monitor but concerned they might not honour the price since I can't produce email and their website is currently not reflecting the deal. Would you be kind enough to forward me a copy of the email from MSY so I may try my luck with them? If you're OK with this, I can PM you my email address?

        • Yes of course, PM me. I'll ring the 2 stores near me (South East Melbourne) regarding price and stock as well before I go and pick one up. Will update

        • @sky blu: hey @sky blu, many thanks. I have managed to ring them to check the price and they have since fixed their website. I have now managed to order 1 at $309! :)

        • @Mcz: oh thank you lol. Which store you going to? And anything worth picking up as well. It's still one trip to the store.

        • +1
