$85 for $100 to Spend on Anything at eBay Via Groupon (Single Transaction, Multiple Items)

This post contains affiliate links. OzBargain might earn commissions when you click through and make purchases. Please see this page for more information.

Update 4: Working again

Update 3: Despite the button showing up and being able to get to checkout, you can't purchase the vouchers anymore.

UPDATE 2(9/6): It appears the deal is active but you can't access it via clicking via OzBargain. Copy the link and paste in your browser. You may need to refresh a couple of times before it allows you to put it into your cart.

UPDATE (24/5): The deal is active again.

Groupon is offering $100 of eBay credit for only $85. You can buy multiple things via add to cart but must use the credit in one transaction. You can get $10 off for new Groupon accounts so $75 for $100. Groupon have fixed that.

  • eBay Voucher Code is valid for use in a single transaction only
  • Limit 1 transaction per voucher. Multiple items can be purchased in one transaction (up to a maximum of 10 items per transaction).
  • The voucher expires on 31 July 2016 and any voucher which is not redeemed by 23:59 (AEST) on 31 July 2016 will cease to be valid
  • eBay Voucher Code is valid for use on ebay.com.au only.
  • Your eBay Voucher Code will be emailed to you in approximately 2-4 business days from the email alias: Groupon ([email protected])
  • Not to be used in conjunction with any other eBay or PayPal coupon/voucher.

Groupon eBay T&Cs

3 bought as of 4:15PM. Found this deal through Groupon's cryptic Tweet earlier today. Not sure if you can use cashback but Pricepal has 9% for founders.

Buy anything on eBay like more gift cards (gift card inception)! no nevermind, T&Cs say you can't do that.

From lplau:

If you get a refund, the coupon will become active again with the amount. Therefore it can be re-used.

I just got a refund and on Paypal it will say "Refund Coupons to be sold on Groupon", but it actually goes to the coupon code that was used. Therefore it can be reused.

      • Hahaha

  • Hey has anyone successfully used the WELCOME code for this promotion? I'm talking to tech support after it failed to apply when using Paypal to checkout, and have been told quite definitively "you will not be able to use the promo code for the eBay deal"

    • scotty did and worked. I think around the ~30 or so bought mark it was working then it stopped.

      • They fixed it up.

  • Probably worth noting:

    • eBay Voucher Code is valid for use on ebay.com.au only

Not sure if that limits overseas purchases if you can still add .au to the link??

    • You can add .au to the link and it'll work.

      • And what exchange rate might you expect? Prob lose 5% right there.

        • +1

Surprisingly good, it's not using the dodgy PayPal exchange rates.

Eg this random item is US $169 or AU $232.35 on the eBay site. That is actually better than xe rates which aren't even obtainable anyway or US $169 = $234.67.

Time to buy gift cards on eBay.

    • Excluded

      • Professional tip: Not if it is sold in the different location, or two locations.

    • time to read terms and conditions ;)

  • This would have been good 45mins ago

    • You need to wait 2-4 days anyway

      • I would have waited…

  • I want to buy 20 pcs of the same item, which will exceed the $100. Just not sure if the 10 items limit is applicable to separate items? Or applies to same item also? Any clues?

Also not sure if i can buy multiple of the $100 vouchers from groupon and buy 2 lots of 20 pcs and save $30 in the process?

    Thanks

    • I'd be pretty confident that it only applies to separate items, that is how eBay promo codes have worked. You are only buying 1 item (just in multiple quantities).

  • Also not sure if i can buy 2 of the $100 vouchers from groupon and buy 2 lots of 20 pcs in 2 separate transactions and save $30 in the process?
I don't mind the additional quantity as I need it anyway.

  • edited. But thanks OP.

    • Not to be used in conjunction with any other eBay or PayPal coupon/voucher.

  • Cheers, OP! Got two vouchers :).

    • multiple emails?

      • You're allowed to buy max of two :).

        • Hm. Odd.. When I tried to buy a second, it said I reached the max limit.

        • @guy incogneto:
You probably had to buy two of them at the same time.

  • +1

Note the recent Woolies gift voucher deal, similar $10 off for new accounts. I was refunded via a paypal email with no explanation from Groupon (poor form, a simple courtesy cancellation email would have sufficed). So warning to those who bought prior to this being fixed, your voucher may be refunded in a few days also.

  • Haven't been able to source a cheaper way of buying a motherboard for my PC repair so this fits the need nicely

  • can i use two vouchers in same transaction?
nvm "Please note: eBay Voucher Codes cannot be combined at checkout (1 Voucher Code per transaction on eBay)"

  • +2

I wonder if their strategy is to hope a lot of people buy this and don't get around to using it in time.

    • +2

Thats pretty much a strategy of all gift cards and vouchers.

Brilliant idea for the retailer/seller. They bank your money upfront.

  • "The voucher expires on 31 July 2016 and any voucher which is not redeemed by 23:59 (AEST) on 31 July 2016 will cease to be valid"
This part is tricky. eBay will have their inevitable 20% off. Still, a good buy if you need something @ $100 now.

  • -1

Can this be used with COLLECT 20% code?

    • No:

Not to be used in conjunction with any other eBay or PayPal coupon/voucher.

This deal is for an 'eBay Voucher Code' so you wouldn't be able to enter 2 codes at checkout anyway.

  • OP said he bought 3, i also decided to also buy 3.
thanks for helping me make up my mind.

    • +1

I meant the ticker on their page said 3 bought, it now says 409 bought. I'm struggling to figure out what I will buy with 1.

      • Doh so you only bought 1? Its alright. Ive made a large list of things i want in the last few days :))

  • Was anyone able to purchase using the welcome coupon? The email I received says groupon promo codes are not available for use.

  • +2

Has anyone actually got the voucher emailed yet? Although it says 2-4 business days but could be faster? An email shouldn't take 2-4 business days I personally think

    • I haven't got it its been a day

  • Are we able to buy multiple vouchers to use on the same ebay account in different transactions?

  • how do you get cashback? i go via cash rewards, but cannot search for this deal

    • Cashback probably won't work but may as well try, go to:

It's not searchable on Groupon's site.

      • cashback not payable on any kind of gift cards

    • I ran into this problem as well.

What I did was click the link from the ozbargain post. Click buy now, choose paypal and continue. Then closed the page before paying.
Went into Cashback, clicked through to the Groupon site, and under My Coupons - there's a coupon being "processed" in your account, I clicked the link there and started a new purchase of the coupon.

A few minutes after purchasing it, I got an email from Cashback saying it registered.

      • and under My Coupons - there's a coupon being "processed" in your account, I clicked the link there and started a new purchase of the coupon.

what happened to the "processing" one in the list after you made the new purchase?

        • +1

It goes away after a while

  • woohooo looks like cashrewards worked with this. just got an email saying it just got tracked on groupon. hope they do pay out.

  • Is 2 the max? Do we need a 2nd account to buy more?

  • I understand collusion between seller and buyer is forbidden but is there any seller that sells mint-condition $100 collectible notes from I dunno, 2014? Or is that considered a "gift card".

    • seller would still be hit with about 15% in fees (paypal + FVF) so total cost for your $100 bill will be $117.65 - 15% = $100 + postage…

  • Damn, I was thinking of getting around this .au thing. Thanks Telios!

  • Just got my voucher. I ordered 15 mins or so after the OP posted this deal.

  • Got the code emailed. Used it up already on an item displayed on ebay.au by choosing the 'worldwide' option but located in UK and listed in GBP. Worked. No problems. Some coins saved. Thanks OP.

    • -1

It should only not work if you have an item in your cart that is not IN AUD

  • Got my code 30 minutes ago and successfully used to purchase 100 Australia Post stamps box.

Happy with the saving of $15.

  • +2

Received, and spent on whisky from Dan Murphy's and a card game.

  • is the deal back? it seems available

    • Looks like it. Have removed expiry.

      • Not working at the moment, maybe a glitch…

        • Hmm weird. OK, have expired it.

        • +1

@neil: midnight in syd and i managed to buy 2:)

        • +1

          @koga:

          Cool…and back to unexpired again..

        • @koga: did u buy before?

Looks like you cant rebuy more than 2

  • Can't purchase, keep getting

There was a problem submitting your order.

Different error message on the mobile site

    Oops! That deal-id is incorrect

    • There was a problem submitting your order.

      yep same :(

  • From memory there were 890 bought at deal expiry. Still showing 890 bought now. Damn not getting another one after all…

    • 910 and going up now

      • Cheers. Grabbed another one.

  • I just tried to buy it but my account has been deleted (or suspended, I don't know…) after my purchase.
it was $75 because I used my $10 groupon account credit. (referral $10)
Weird I used the same email address for groupon and paypal.

Is this a trick of groupon that erasing their website's credit?

    • probably didn't like you using their welcome credit.

      • It was not their welcome credit but my referral credit which was sitting their for several months

  • anyone else getting a redemption error (50008) when entering the code?

  • Can they legally say "no refunds" on this? Or is it only the seller (if they have an ABN), not eBay who are considered for Australian Consumer Law?

    • You need to finish reading the sentence

No refunds for change of mind

      No problem with that.

  • Yibbidy Yibbida.

I went ahead and purchased 1x gift card just now (everything went fine - Groupon website says "Thank you for your Groupon Goods order. You will be receiving a confirmation email shortly advising you of next steps" and I even got a PayPal invoice. Time of purchase was 10:55am, Sydney time).

Thanks neil [OP] for alerting me to the bargain!

    • It's been 7 days and I still have not received my code. Anyone else not yet received their code?

  • im not very familiar with eBays workings.. Is it possible for any old joe to sell something valued at $100 and allow these coupons?

    • Seller isn't involved with that part of the transaction (assuming it's not a cash transaction). That's between the buyer & eBay/Paypal.

      • Thanks. Would that allow someone to make an ad for $100, buy it using their own coupon and profit the difference, minus fees?

        • You are going to buy your own item that you are selling? You can't buy your own item with the same eBay account.

        • the fee is currently free for this month so enjoy it.

        • +1

@mmcs: that's just the insertion fee, there's a final value fee and a Pay Pal fee has as mentioned in an above comment: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/3707152/redir

I sold something last week, $238 with $47 fee. It costs a lot to sell.

        • @Sage: 15% usually. Still cheaper than opening your own shop and getting people to go there etc…

  • Voucher code not working how come? Looks like you have to wait for the code via email….Can't use the one via View Voucher online

    • +1

Yes, you answered your own question.

Voucher one isnt really a code for eBay

      • Cool. Indeed the one via website is not the eBay code with page on barcode

    As mentioned above, back again:

    • oops nothing wrong

  • How long do you guys need to wait until a code is emailed to you? It's been 2 hours since I purchase one…

    • Next day or two.

    • -1

WHOA!! 2hours!! Call the ACCC!!! False dodgyness!! lol

it says [ Your eBay Voucher Code will be emailed to you in approximately 2-4 business days from the email alias: Groupon ([email protected]) ]

      • -1

Dude its just a quick question. I just wanted to know what others had whether 2 days or less.

Groupon and Scoopon had in the past had deals that did not ended well, because the supplier denies service or make it difficult to make a booking eg. hair salon

It ended up no where, also don't forget to woolies e-giftcard codes leaked

        • ahhh okay….

          long day..

    • woohoo!
ordered 6am and recieved code 3pm!

      • It's been 23 hours still nothing here. I wonder why some of you get it so soon?

        • I bought one yesterday morning and got the email 5 hours later. Bought another one at midnight today but still nothing after 15 hours. So it's a mixed bag.

        • @underwood:
Thanks for your input. Hopefully my money didn't go down the drain. I don't wanna do dispute another Paypal payment

        • @neonlight:

Hey mate, have you got yours yet?
