iiNet - Broadband2+ (Bundled) Plan Changes April '10

571

For those people still on iinet. Good news if you are on one of the bundles plans. Increases in quota limits. and increased speeds with shaping. Nothing yet for guys on naked adsl, like myself. But hopefully will soon.

New plans are on the link provided:
http://www.iinet.net.au/specials/wp-summary-tables-iinet.pdf

and should be effective immediately.

Niiice. That's twice in 6 months now. The new shaping speed will be great :D

Sweet, has already taken affect :)

Not that I get anywhere near my quota anyway!

    • Yeah, I'm actually tempted to drop to a lower plan now :P

      • I dropped down a month or two ago to Home 3. I was originally on Home 5 but over time I've gone down. Now for $50/month (plus phone) I get 50+50? Sweet. I can live on 30+30 (just!) but 50+50 is so much better. You used to pay $70-100 for that.

        • How much does it cost to downgrade plans?

          • @sloppy: $29.

          • @sloppy: If you call them you can probably get it for free (if you've never done it before, or very rarely), the fee is mostly a deterrent for people changing their plans regularly to scam more quota. At least that is what they said after the last update.

Good to see iiNet finally upgrading their plans and cap speeds

But since ive changed to TPG it has been great. Downloaded 1.5TB in 2 weeks of linux isos. :P

    • have your speeds and ping been the same since you've churned?

      • Speeds have been the same, Sync speed wise. Download speed wise is about 12-14Mbit. (Sync'ed 17Mbit)

        • I'm very tempted

wouldn't they be unmetered from high-speed local mirrors anyway?

  • Hmm, I don't think the apparel tag is what you had in mind. :)

  • TPG etc etc

  • does it include uploads in quotas? Some ISPs lately have been sneaky with this

    • not unless its naked

what about naked dsl with voip???

  • +2

can we get some naked love as well???

  • according to whirlpool forums iinet are looking into naked dsl and MAY increase quota limits in a month or so. No fixed date as of yet.

    • let me know when they do something for naked dsl… am on that! Ta!

  • good news, quota increasing 10gb for both peak and off peak hours. i am still with iiNet, bundled with phone, no plan/contract, but need to pay 30 dollars for line rental per month. Looking at TPG's offer, bundled with phone also, but cheaper and more generous download limit, or no limit if your exchange is available for TPG's unlimited plan with phone.

  • See they had crap phone bundle plans when I started 2+ years ago. Now for me to get a good bundle I have to cancel my line and sign up with them.

Without internetz! Guess I'm stayin' on my old plans :(

  • Wow This is brilliant news. I didn't go with iinet for over two years because internode was beating iinet hands down on value. Now this finally kind of makes the two companies even. I was waiting for internode's adsl2+ to be installed (currently only helstra and iinet) but now will just go with iinet :D

  • I would of preferred a better shaping speed than more quota, 256 is still slow. I've been on contract with them for 5+ years and its increased just 192kbps in that time.

    • the whole point of shaping is that it's a painful experience. If you find that you're shaped often, you then upgrade your plan and hence increase the ISPs revenue (so they can pay for bigger data pipes!). Some ISPs will give you ok shaping speeds (512kbps) but they often sacrifice something else to make up for the cost (poor service, clogged network, …)

      • I guess you're right. Though I'm on home 7 so I can't go any higher. I don't dl a lot myself but siblings may go on a random dl spree. Sometimes I'm get shaped halfway through the month and sometimes I have heaps of bandwidth left.

I strongly recommend iinet to anyone.

    Why go with iinet?
    - iinet was the first (one of the first, not sure) company in Australia to offer adsl2+
    - iinet protect their customers (The lawsuit with AFACT against iinet, which iinet won)
    - Uptime is great
    - If you ever wanted to cancel your contract (not sure why you would), you can after 6 months and pay $80 (Tpg have an outrageous cancellation fee of $350 and that's after 12 or 18 months minimum)

If you ever thought about joining iinet, now is the time to do so.

    • Lol for a minutes there, you sounded like a spokesperson

      Thanks for the info :D

      • No worries. Not a spokesperson, just a happy customer :)

I cant seem to edit my comment.

The contract is 6 months, if you cancel before 6 months its $70, after 6 months its free.

"Tpg have an outrageous cancellation fee of $350 and that’s after 12 or 18 months minimum"

      Huh???

That got my hopes up, no love for their other plans? some customers are obviously better than others.

  • Do you need to take any action to get this benefit?
If you were an Exetel user, they recently increased quota under new plans and you need to change plan to get this new quota and have to pay 'plan change fee' of $10.
