    At $581.77, it's a steal. I'm so tempted to…

  • best I'm seeing is like 635 and that's without lens, damn bargain tempted myself.

Closest I can see is this http://www.cworld.com.au/product_info.php?ID=142903 $897 (same lens set I think)

    • Thats not the same lens, its one lens only for the price, not two lens's!

Best I can find online for Australian stock is $1400 +

      http://www.digidirect.com.au/slr_cameras/sony/sony_alpha_dsl…

Did find one that went for $650 second hand on ebay last month!

      • will be hard-ish to find a comparison price. A350 was replaced by A380 last year. Hence the clearance at OW i guess.

      • Yeah just noticed that, friggin steal, my sister will love me for awhile lol.

      • impressive debut markis! congrats

  • doesn't appear to be any left.

  • put the price in the title.

I've got one of these, really good camera, defiantly go out and grab yourself a flash for it, easily doubles the quality of the pics you can take, great cheap DSLR, i imported mine with the dual lens kit was 1k, although that was 2 years ago.

man tempted to get another one these are so good…

cant believe its so cheap…wish i could give this deal two +s!!!

  • Just got 1 from Vic it looks like for my sister, got order confirmation.

  • Nice - birthday pressie for the wife - how did you know I was looking?
Hope it's as good as you say…

edit: managed to pick one up in VIC

  • none in NSW

  • None in NSW it seems

  • none in WA

    • Just rang Subiaco, apparently Joondalup is the only place that has "maybe one or two" in WA.

  • None in SA.

    • I swear there's never any Officeworks Clearance stuff in SA!

      • agreed or not enough to matter

    • Think i may have just got the last one, was a display model at gillies plains. They checked the computers and there is no more listed in the state :(

  • +1

None left in Vic. It was $780ish when I checked a couple of days before.

  • Unavailable in VIC.

  • +3

I think it's good to say there is NO STOCK AT ALL.

  • It's very good value for a dSLR and twin lens. If you could afford a little more however, not getting one may not be a huge loss:

    officeworks and no stock

    quel surprise

    • +1

Rule for life: Click on Officeworks "bargains" expecting nothing. It alway is. Then one miraculous day when the stars align and the heavens open up, they might surprise you and actually have stock. That is also the day you should go buy a Powerball ticket. :D

  • I woud spend a little more and look at the Nikon's and Canon's of the world

    • -1

Agreed, Nikon and Canon are really the only 2 competitors in the dSLR world. On a side note, Sony cameras (most if not all) image quality suffers greatly above ISO 400 even for their SLR ranges, which makes its useless (defeats the purpose of SLR for good image quality) at night or low light environment from excessive noise.

Nevertheless considering the amount of money saved at this price it is a bargain, but IMHO I would rather pay a little more and get a lower end Canon/Nikon with better image quality. http://www.dpreview.com/ is a great site for reviews.

      • Too bad Canon and Nikon does have Carl Zeiss Auto Focus lens to play with. With the same price range, Canon wouldn't have wireless flash and Nikon wouldn't have build in motor.

The manual kelvin white balance will come in handy and the amazing LiveView is unbeatable.

  • for the people wanting this, can't you buy it online? looks like online purchase?
or are people trying to go in-store for this?

    • online only, sold out at checkout though. i missed out…

      • grrrrr its true

i got 'Product SOA350X is not available for backorder. ' error for NSW

    • it said online this morning but I have just checked the local store and they have it at the same price!

      • where? somewhere is Bris no doubt.

        • Windsor and Milton have them.

          • @markis10: so can i buy it from them and get them to ship to NSW? lol

            • +1

@prankster: If you ring the local store they can tell you where stock is in your state, some bargains do require a little big of leg work.

              • @markis10: I did. the guy said only south strathfield and coffs harbour have 3 unless sold today. called south strathfield she said sold out this morning. !!!

                lol people are really quick.

  • None @ Noosa, was told 9 in Qld.. 2 supposedly @ Maroochydore - rang store and told none Avail :{ goodluck

  • Just picked one up at Kotara. Scan said that there was one at Newcastle, 2 at Warners Bay and one more at Kotara. Some were floor stock though. Mine also came with a soft Sony carry-bag - not sure whether this is standard.

    • do you know if the remaining one at Kotara is a display model?

      • i think so. Warners Bay had two though.

  • seems to be out of stock now

  • Tried online, sold out. I really hope OfficeWorks had more than a few in stock…

    • You do realise that it was a clearance and not a regular sale??

      • Of course. However what we do not know is the level of stock around the country. Did OfficeWorks have 20, or 200 to clear? It makes a big difference.

  • Hi guys,

I've been looking to get a digital SLR for a while now, and this seems like an amazing price (even if the camera is a bit old). Can anyone give any advice on whether this camera will be suitable for a beginner to DSLR's? I've put one on hold and am hoping to pick it up after work, but would appreciate some feedback.

    Cheers to markis10 for posting

    • yes, ideal for beginner. has liveview. doesn't have video, but then again you aren't paying $1000.

    • What sort of shooting are you look at doing?

    • love mine, they used to be minolta until sony bought them out, so the quality is quite good, easy to use, and it encourages you to use them more, heaps better in low light than a point and shoot, just make sure you buy a flash, best investment i made for mine, although genuines cost 3-400 :(

    • Thanks for the feedback. Zhenjie I'm looking to do very basic shots, ie scenery, family, perhaps some macro shots. I picked it up from the glen at lunchtime, salesman said he got at least 20 calls in the hour before I picked it up! Initial impressions are great, easy to use and the automatic settings produce good pictures. Looking forward to playing with the features a bit more.

      • This will certainly be a great start SLR for the shots you intend to take. Macro shots might just be ok, nothing compared to a proper macro lens but certainly better then a p&s.

        • I was going to provide feedback on the macro as well, but as im a novice user im not sure if im doing it right, but you cant get really close to something it just goes blury, think you need a special macro lense… either that or zoom in with a large zoom lens from a distance away…

          • @wisc: Correct, you either need a macrolens if you want are close to the subject, or have a good telelens (telemacro) with wide aperture and zoom right in. Unfortunately neither of these lens really do that. Good for everything else otherwise.

    • +1

Any details about the city stores ?

      • The ones listed above were the only ones that had stock in Victoria I believe, as I also got the same info when I rang around

  • Both Milton & Windsor are sold out. I managed to get the display model from Ipswich. I have no idea how to use a DSLR.

    • do what most people do - put it on auto and shoot. over time you can read the instructions, maybe buy a book or do a course.

    • Yeah I got the last one at Milton which was also the display stock.
Note: Display stock are discounted an extra 5% if you ask =)

As above post: just set it on Automatic mode and point and click.

      • +1

They didn't give me 5% off. They said they can't because it's a clearance item.

Edit: I showed the Ipswich Manager this thread. He said the other Managers who gave 5% off clearance display models have done the wrong thing but he was nice and gave me a 5% refund! Yay.

  • +1

For an overview of stock just call their call centre: 1300 OFFICE (633 423)
Gives you an indication of whether or not they have stock and saves calling every individual store.
Once you get a shortlist call actual store to see if indeed it's still in stock.

  • maybe try calling harvey norman instead?
    ask for a price match?

    • [1] would HN price match it?
[2] would HN have this camera?

    • Harvey Norman will only price match if the item is in stock and not a clearance item. The Sony camera at OfficeWorks fails on both counts.

    • pre-clearance price $775: http://www.lasoo.com.au/search/a350.html

picked up a display model for $550 in sydney (not CBD). had some minor scratches on the LCD, so they took another 5% off.

  • Does anyone any good deals on CF memory cards? What class/speed do I need?

    • +1

the 133x will do fine, it works with UDMA but there is no speed advantage as far as i can tell, also you need a special card reader to get the full advantage of UDMA,

Also, the card reader i have (in my 3.5 bay) doesnt read the UDMA card properly.

kingston 133xs seem to work fine, 8GB stores heaps of pics, about 35 bux from your local swapmeet or online somewhere…..
i also had a slower 4 gig card that came with the camera and it seemed to work fine.

  • ok called the stores that would have the camera but they don't, so OP should update title to say, SYDNEY ALL SOLD OUT!
    wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

    • Wentworthville still has the display model with 5% discount.

  • WA - Jandakot and Mandurah may have some. Got the last 1 from Joondalup :)

  • Courier just dropped mine off, god I love the same day delivery.

    • Just got mine too.

Just found out there's no memory card included - need a CF card now…

      • picked an 8gb up off ebay for like 26 bucks, no biggy.

  • i am so tempted but decided to go for olympus PEN instead

  • this is an awesome deal, but newer models will come out soon, hopefully with full HD video recording.

    • +1

      and cost >$1000

  • +1

For anyone wanting info on cameras, the biggest website is dpreview.com with in depth reviews on most DSLRs. Most cameras will last for 3-5 years, so it may be better to pay a bit more and get better quality if you can afford it.

ISO should be good quality up to at least 1600.

This is a real big bargain, especially if you don't mind throwing it in the bin when the body dies. Remember you are locking yourself into a brand, also especially if you buy a flash and more lenses, which will last longer than the body.

The long lens alone is worth about $250 but then can only be used on Sony cameras. I would recommend Canon over Nikon then the others.

  • no stock at the Atwell or Mandurah stores in WA. :( If anyone knows of any stock in WA, let me know!@

  • Picked one up from Keswick store(SA)this am. I see its started… http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Sony-DSLR-A350-Digital-Camera-/160428…

    • They have many left at Keswick?

  • How is this compare to Canon EOS 1000D / Nikon D90? http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/10762
Is it worth to pay triples price for Nikon?

  • No last one I’m afraid (ex display).

  • Any SA's OW still have stock?

  • All the Melb stores are outta stock …

I called that 1300 OFFICE number earlier .. found all the stores city and north and then did the ring around. i found 1 camera left at Epping which i picked up at 8pm tonight ..

While i was there some lady called up and was trying to trace them down as well.

The thing i dont understand .. the guy checked the stock levels of the other stores via the computer at Epping. He then told her stores like Richmond and a couple of others had stock. By when I rang them at 6pm they said they sold out earlier.

I'm not sure if staff are holding onto them for others or if they just dont want to sell all the stock or what the deal is.

When I rang Ascot Vale, told me they had one left, the guy went to find it and came back saying they probably miscounted on their stocktake the other week. Like wtf? How the hell can you miscount on an expensive camera like that?

Also, anyone know anything bout the OfficeWorks refund policy? I bought extended warranty through them not realising that Sony had paperwork in the box offering an extended warranty. The guy didnt mention anything about it at the time when I asked him :(

    • +1

I think their central stock system updates the stores stock each night, so that the call centre only has an idea of the stock at close of business the night before.

From memory Office Works have a refund policy that allows a change of mind.

    • Was probably sold that day system doesn't update until the next day. Probably beaten by a fellow ozbargainer

  • anyone know what the biggest memory card this camera holds ? i cant find the value for a CF card

    eBay has a 8gb Kingston for $34 … eg http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Kingston-8G-8GB-CF-Compact-Flash-card…

though they got 32gig ones available for bout $100 … this would provide almost limitless photos :D and i rather pay extra and get a bigger card …

    • I use the kingston 8s, great cards, though the ones on ebay may be non genuine, have to watch out for those, i had two one read half the speed of the other one, (that said i didn't have a fast reader, it was only USB 1)

now im a bit more cautious with cards, readers and writers…

    • The user manual states that it can accept cards up to 8gb

  • Hi all, I picked up one from Ascot Vale last night that was put on hold for me. I have another (new in box) on hold at Ringwood, and one display model on hold at Richmond, which I will not be needing, so if anyone wants one, call Ringwood or Richmond fast!

    • +2

I dunno if I should negative you or positive u.

Negative cuz u were selfish enough to hold 3 units.

And positive just because you are telling everyone there untis now.

      Hmmmmm

      • Hey, I could have just cancelled my holds and not told anyone, but I made the effort to let fellow Ozbargainers know first….I think that is worth a + ;)
I just wanted to make sure I got one as I have asked for stuff to be held for me before only to find it's been sold when I get there…I drove half way around Melbourne to get mine! Hope it was worth it…..

        • yeah great cameras, and i cant stress this enough, get yourself a good flash for it, totally changes the camera, i show people,
          1. no flash usually comes out really good, if not a bit blury.
          2. built in flash - usually the people look sickly as it makes them look pale/white, really bad
          3. flash pointed directly at a person, looks better than the built in flash, nateral, looks ok.
          4. bounce it off the roof, (face it away and on a slight angle) pics look amazing. natural and come to life… easily doubles the quality of the picture i rekon.

          • @wisc: suggestions / models for a flash ?

what have you found works best ?

            • @CereaL: I just bought a sony genuine one… i had a 400 dollar budget so was able to get a 46 i think it was…

was limited in that i had to get it from JB as i was returning another camera i got as a gift :)

should be able to get the 58(?) for around that price imported.

but basically they are the 2 current genuine Sony ones. because i paid a bit for the camera, i wanted to go genuine to ensure i got what was right for the camera.

    • so that would explain why ascot vale had one showing last night but the guy couldnt find the product!

i should have gone in and said i had prerung and where is my camera :P

  • Well I think Victoria has offically ran out of stock.. Just rang stores like richmond and ringwood and they said they've ran out.. So anyone who ordered two wanna sell me one? :)

    • how much do you want to pay for this bjorncyz?

  • can someone please upload a copy of your receipt pls? i want to try to price match at the good guys. cheers

  • i'm really after a SLR around this price, i don't have any experience with these so i'm just after an entry level one. missed out on this officeworks bargain which would have been perfect. does anyone have any recommendations as to where we can get another SLR for this price? thanks
