I got a lifetime subscription during the last deal. Absolutely non complaints.

But these lifetime subscriptions are interesting for their business model. Services like these need ongoing income to continue running, and to research and implement new techniques around geoblocking. If a larger proportion of their customer base jumps on the lump sum payment method, it's less likely that their business model will be sustainable in the long-run.

Tl;dr: If too many people sign up on lifetime subscriptions, Getflix may not run for very much longer.

  • May not be around for 30 years, but as long as its around for a year or so, you are in the positive

  • +1

FWIW, I've been w/ unblock and they've really not responded at all re: Netflix crackdown on Geoblocking. Getflix seems to be the only service that's responded at al to the changes. For that reason, I'm signing up for this deal.

  • Getflix works well for me. I subscribed to this last round's offering.

Never had any hiccups with it and Netflix, Hulu or others.. the actual VPN also came in handy around NBA subscription time. I figure even if it lasts me another year or two, I've gotten my money's worth from it.

I signed up with the the viewpoint that if it lasts 2 years or more, then I've more than broken even.

PS. I probably never saw any Netflix problems as I signed up with a US account before it came about in Australia.

  • -5

I just use a throw away email and request a new trial every 2 weeks.

  • +2

Bought the 30 year deal last year after usually paying every 3 months.
    Happy with service.
Netflix USA works after adding ip addresses.
Also use the VPN which have no issue with. Got money worth and still got 29 years left

  • I had getflix. Netflix USA stopped working last month. But gives you VPN which is usefull

  • I have a subscription with "Private Internet Access" - is that enough to get US Netflix?

    • +2

No. PIA is blocked by Netflix.

  • Been waiting over 2 months now for Getflix to unblock my Netflix after I got tagged. "We're hard at work" is the only messages I get back. Well, it's been two months. I bought my sub back during the last lifetime deal. Not worth it.

    • +2

What did you get tagged for? I've had this since the last deal too and I'm permanently on US/Canada, never been flagged before

      • +1

A huge wave of tagging happened 2 months ago. Haven't had access since.

        • Are you sure it's tagging? I had to kill a couple of cookies and restart the browser once I'd made the DNS change.

    • +1

You know you can get it working at any time?

      https://www.getflix.com.au/netflix-update

      • +2

Depending on your setup. The new method is not possible on the Optus cable router, and when you do get it working, it is apparently not working on the Xbox One. May get around to plugging in a second router, can't be bothered with it at the moment.

        • +1

Routers provided by ISPs are generally terrible. It's an added expense but getting a good router - preferably one that runs DD-WRT/Tomato/OpenWRT - has many benefits. Xbox One works fine if your router is configured correctly:

          https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2517844

        • I didn't set any of those settings but works fine with PS4

      • +1

        Still doesn't work. Thanks though.

        • I appreciate that getting this set up correctly is not easy but it works for everyone else who's tagged, including me. The problem is almost certainly at your end and it's unlikely that Getflix will be able to do anything further for you as they do provide a system that works (for the regions they currently support).

        • @dazweeja:

The problem is almost certainly at your end

I have set it up exactly how they told me. I've been going back and forth with them for 2 weeks now.

        • +1

          @Dagmar:

I'm not doubting your effort but that doesn't negate the fact that their service works when everything is configured correctly. When it doesn't work, it means that direct requests to the Google DNS servers or the Netflix video servers have made it through. Sometimes it works without blocking access to the Netflix video servers (sometimes not) but Google DNS must always be blocked. This is simple network stuff, there is no magic. My suggestion is to post politely in the Whirlpool thread with the exact hardware you are using and see if someone can help:

          https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2517844

        • +1

@dazweeja: You didn't need to block the google dns but I was having issues so I got around to blocking that and the netflix servers and it all seems to work now.

Bonus is before I couldn't use the Chromecast to watch Netflix US and now I can but blocking the servers listed by getflix also fixed any issues I had with my samsung smart tv and netflix US.

  • +1

You can take my 'testimonial' with a grain of salt. But Getflix was the first unblocking service I had used and I've had it since the start of the year. I've had a couple of hiccups along the way when Netflix cracked down on proxy services etc, but after some digging around on the whirlpool forums and being able to do DNS forwarding on my router things seem to be pretty good again. I do find my speed is capped at around 30Mbps to Netflix when Getflix is enabled (I have a 100Mbps connection) but for the most part streaming is fine, occasionally I have to change my region, but that's once in a blue moon.

    • Can you stream 4K content through getflix? I'm assuming yes if you are getting 30mbps?

      • Also can you please post a link to the dns forwarding stuff you have done? Thanks heaps :)

      • I'm only on the $11.99 plan with netflix, so I only get HD content. Never tried UHD.

As for the Netflix DNS Forwarding you can find my reply to a whirlpool post here - https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2508180&…

But for those who don't want to follow the link, I added these two lines to my OpenWRT router DNS forwarding section. Seems "netflix.com" just wasn't enough after a while. Some of these links could probably be removed too, I just went off another user's recommendations.

        • I have the UHD subscription (get up to 100MBps with Optus cable) - I really like it but there probably isn't enough content to justify the plan upgrade unless you're a real enthusiast like me.

        • @cindernat: The fact that you can share your UHD plan with 4 people (only 2 people on HD) sounds like a justifiable reason.

  • Thanks! This cost about the same as a one year subscription to getflix which I was thinking of buying anyway. Great deal!

  • +1

even if it only lasts a couple of years its still a good deal.

  • Honest question: I would assume getting the US netflix via Getflix will mean it does count towards any monthly GBs download allowance whereas Netflix Australia does not?

    • +1

If your ISP offers quota free Netflix access then this is only going to work when not using US Netflix via Getflix .

  • Does anyone have experience with purchasing this if you are already a Getflix subscriber ? Can you add it to your current account or do you need to create a new one?

    • I just checked with Getflix support and they say need to create a new one :/

      • Thanks for that.

  • +2

Buying this is like buying a lifetime subscription to MySpace or Geocities or Netscape Navigator. It might be popular now, but in 30 years will be unheard of.

    • +1

As long as it lasts for more than 2 years, you will be ahead.

  • with Netflix going on with blocking VPN, would this still work though?

    • the DNS service has been working well so far for NF US. I use VPN for other purposes.

  • +1

Sad to hear we've only got 30 years left on this planet.

  • bought it and went to enter promo code and get this

Error: This promo code can only be applied to new/trial accounts.

bugger, should have read the terms more carefully.

    • +3

Just create a new account, that is what I did.

  • For 30 years of VPN it would be a good deal (if they upgrade the speeds over time…) but I can't imagine the SmartDNS trick working forever (unless Netflix was complacent) OR assume their VPNs won't be banned. Popularity guarantees visibility.

For a nerd it's easy enough to setup a super-budget 64MB VPS to use from $2 USD a year for VPN/squid-proxy purposes. On the other hand, Netflix has started banning VPS providers as well.

  • Getflix is removing support for PayPal.

  • -5

WARNING, DOES NOT WORK FOR NETFLIX USA

    • I signed up to a trial yesterday and have it working perfectly!?

      • Doesn't work on my xbox but does on PC.

It depends what device I think tbh.

  • +2

For roughly the same price as a year's subscription it's worth the gamble.

  • I've been trying for over a year to get a particular site added to Getflix. Very poor customer service.

  • +1

I've been using Getflix for about a year now, mostly without issue.

Getflix was flawless until Netflix began their giant crackdown. I was one of the account that got "tagged" and for about 2 months I had issues watching US Netflix on any of my various devices. Sometimes it worked, most the time it didn't. It seems Getflix is now working again on most devices, the main exception being Xbox One - which is my primary media device.

To bypass the Xbox One issue I used IPTables on my router which is flashed with Tomato firmware. For most people this isn't an easy fix. You need a router that supports custom firmwares like DD-WRT or Tomato and then be comfortable installing that firmware on your router.

So consider this if you use an Xbox One for Netflix.

  • Hi Guys, I have been leaning towards getting Netflix. So whats the go, If I get this deal. Then i need to get a netflix account / package. How do i choose if i get the US Netflix or AU Netflix?

    • No real difference, apart from the currency you're charged in. A Netflix US account will have access to exactly the same films/TV shows as Netflix AU.

      • huh? I thought people were saying that the whole point of this or other VPNs is that you get access to Netflix US that has far more shows available than the Aussie Netflix? I am confused?

        • +1

I believe Nightshade means when using from Australia. No matter what country your billing information is set up through you'll get the content of whatever country you are currently in. So if I have an AU account but I go to Japan, I'll now be watching Japanese content.

The DNS option offered by Getflix and others makes it appear you are in another country, thus getting you access to that country's content. e.g. I set my region as Japan in Getflix and now I can watch shows that are available to people who are viewing from Japan despite being in Australia.

        • @WeiKaiLe:

Oh I get you, so i should just get the standard australian account through the aussie website and if i go through getflix, I get access to all the content, not just the cut down BS.

  • Netflix blocked me for the Getflix -DNS. I did this DNS entry on my sony TV . What should I need to do now? Please help .Thanks in advance.

  • My apologies it is working again YAY!

  • Can I subscribe to it as an alternative to VPN services. I need VPN to mainly download stuffs.

    • I cancelled PIA to use Getflix VPN and it has been very stable so far (on my Synology NAS) so I am sticking with it.

      • Does it have any download limit?

        • No - VPN services typically dont have that kind of limit.

  • +1

Just thought I'd share my experience when using Netflix with Getflix through a PS3.

Any connection issues, ensure your IP has been updated if you don't have a static IP with your ISP.

Ensure you're signed into the PSN Network (lately, mine had been signed out without telling me and Netflix wouldn't connect - this was because of a DHCP issue).

Try the steps here and configure the settings on your router: https://www.getflix.com.au/netflix-update

Cycle through the different regions as only one of the sites may be working for the US, UK, etc.

  • wow, am i glad i have notifications turned off when i posed this.
ultimately i went with this service because
    1. Unblock.us failed me, with horrible customer service which didnt work, then no word from them in over a month (lucikly i was over seas for most of it so didnt watch any netflix)
    2. when i compared to other 'DNS proxies' the price was on par with their yearly services. so as long as this last for more than 1 year i am saving money.
I did the trial first of course, and it all worked. they openly update when something goes wrong (reading their forums and such) unlike unblock.us who just removed any mention of netfilx from their page
i guess its also worth mentioning that im using consoles for most of my viewing, so setting up is easy as changing some DNS settings.

  • They'll probably go out of business soon, anyone remember Gateway computers?

  • How does Getflix work? Do you have to setup your router or every device you want getflix to work on?

  • Wish I got in when this was around: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/221011

But alas, smartflix are charging ridiculous amounts so this will have to do.

    • I loved how Smartflix looked and worked, but no apps.
so I couldn't get it on my consoles or devices.

  • I've tried different email addresses but despite all of them being new accounts I never got the 10% coupon despite entering it at the 10% off popup ad :/ Checked my spam folder, nothing there either. I'll probably give in and pay the full amount but ugh, annoying

    • I got it.. Try deleting cookies or using different browser.

      • I used MSE, Chrome & Firerfox

        • what email? I just used gmail.

        • @mit: Gmail & Google Apps (my own domain) - didn't make a difference

        • @backslashio: thats weird…

    • same happened to me I messaged support and they replied pretty fast and gave me a manual code to get the 10% off

  • This seems a bit bad if Getflix are just extending the deal inevitably… who knows.. in another few motnhs it could be half the price.

    • They did this last time at this price, then it bumped up to US$59 until recently

  • Heads up the Melbourne and Sydney DNS servers have been flagged by netflix. Perth server is still good.

    I've logged it with Getflix.

    • Just read their Twitter feed; change your Netflix region to United States Central 1 or 2 and it should still be okay. They realise there are issues with US Netflix and think they'll have it sorted soon.

  • Thanks Op, tried a few trials and although hit a few road bumps despite router configs, for $50AUD I think even getting a year's worth will be good value.

  • Thanks OP.

Managed to get it working via the router changes.

Out of curiousity, are subtitles working for you guys for Netflix US? My subtitles stopped working recently and i'm not sure if its the device im using (although Netflix AU works fine..)
Or that it is meant to be delivered via kne of the routes that are now blocked.

  • Hi all, how do you tell if GetFlix is actually working ? Is there a way to check that I am actually on the US Netflix ?

GetFlix site says I'm all good to go, but just interested if I am seeing US Content.

    • A good test program is "Glimore Girls" as that is on US Netflix only hence if you can open and watch that you've got US working.

    • Another way to check is to load up Netflix, and if you see "Australian TV Shows" or "Australian Movies" in the "Browse" menu, then you know you're still using the Australian version.

  • Bummer - sold out, just as I finally managed to get around the blocking issue!

OP, you may want to mark this as expired / out of stock…

    • +1

Downvote me all you want. It doesn't change the fact Getflix has now stopped working for EVERYONE.

      • +1

This does sound a bit suss doesnt it?

  • Has this recently change to new/trial accounts only?

I have been with them since November last year and I bought it only to be told that my code doesn't work for existing accounts.

In any case, this post should be updated to reflect that it is new accounts only.

Signed up with a new email address and it worked.

  • -2

Just want to second Dagmar's comment. I have a Getflix subscription and Netflix does not work anymore. They have recommended users turn off their region setting and browse local content.

    DON'T SIGN UP!

Thanks OP for the original deal, just want to make sure no one wastes their money now that the service doesn't work.

  • I changed to US Central 1 and was able to continue watching again, this is what happened last time, and they rolled out new servers to other regions. I had a total of 5min down time before I was watching US Netflix again.

  • latest update from Getflix

'US regions should be working again now, all other blocked regions have been removed for now while we work on a longer term solution.'

  • This deal is still active and expire in 3 days

  • +1

Deal is still on, looks like it is a rolling deal that is always about to end…

  • Keen to get this, use Netflix on the new generation Apple TV. Do they have a guide to set this up?

  • +1

    Deal still works
Now have Active (10971 days remaining)

    Total Price $35.10 USD

Interesting to pick this up 9 months on…

Do people still find more content available on US Netflix compared with Australia Netflix?/
Can you bypass this with the category search:

    http://whatsonnetflix.com/netflix-hacks/the-netflix-id-bible…

    • +1

yes, there are shows that are only accessible through US Netflix that don't show up through category search.
