Proof that Getflix will be in business for eternity?

    • +20

Agree. I don't trust these Lifetime bullshit anymore. I don't even believe their 30-year bullshit. Getflix could easily be sold to a new buyer next month and your current subscription can mean nothing. The new owner can then demand you to pay a new subscription fee again.

      • Oh well. $35 is not very much to lose then. Worth the risk imho.

        • +65

I find your lack of ozb disturbing.

        • +2

LOL. I'm still going to do it and in 20 years time and I have only paid $2 a year, my ozb will be awesome!

        • +2

$35 is not very much to lose

I have to subject myself to my boss for nearly 2 hours for that. Hell it is a lot for me!

        • @StiffHindQuarters: I look at my money the same way! As in "how many work hours will this cost me?"

        • @cnrmlj: Or your subscription could just last 2 months once Getflix changed ownership, then your ozb will be epic fail.

        • +3

Well that is just the sort of high stakes risk taker I am.

      • Exactly! Even one has to take into account the speed technology, the internet and telecommunication networks are going by the day. Forget about 30 years, where will the internet and technology be in 10 years' time? Will geoblocking still be a thing? What will be the laws regarding VPNs and anti geoblocking companies? Etc etc. I can totally understand if they want to attract new customers, and people like us here in Australia we actually need these kinds of services. The problem is when they try to use some old, shitty tactics to sell their services.

        • +41

I predict that in 10 years time Australia will still have the same crappy internet speeds of today…

        • @backslashio: Sad but true. We're way behind the rest of the world when it comes to technology and internet services.

        • +5

Hell people paid subscriptions and bought hardware from ICETV back in the day. They got bought out (or folded and then got bought, idk) and then everyone lost their subscriptions. Wonderful.

New age, new form of entertainment delivery, another company will fold up.

        • In 10 years time, if you still have this, you'll have paid $AU4.80 per year.

        • @backslashio: No way, our NBN is going to be much faster than today… But by the time it's finished (lol government contracts - maybe 2030), it will be slower (relative to the rest of the world) than our speeds today.

        • +2

These services are about $3-5 a month. At this price, if you get more than a year out of it, then you start to incrementally save money.

      • Fellow ex-Icetv member?

    • +1

      no, it's not

    • +3

Somewhat unrelated but I bought a lifetime subscription for AnyDVD HD about 7 years ago and now they're defunct because of new laws (which is stupid because imo you should be able to make digital backups of your movies & watch imported blurays that would NEVER get released locally - like the Criterion titles)

      • Was eating and writing similar comment above when I've just seen your comment. You're right, these things will be probably be a dinosaur-age technology in the next couple of years so this talk of 'lifetime' is a lazy person's way of selling their shit.

      • Slysoft now known as Redfox - your lifetime key should still work: https://www.redfox.bz/en/

    • I just picked this up.

It worked out the same as what I pay PIA for 1 year's VPN subscription and PIA has admittedly given up on the Netflix crowd. A real shame since PIA is generally a really good VPN provider.

If this lasts any longer than a year for me it will have been worth it and I still get a VPN unlike many other unblock services.

I have had a lifetime VPN deal go south in the past but I did get 3.5 years of service out of it, again for about the same price as 1 year with PIA.

  • +23

Looks like they are getting desperate.

Netflix is catching up on them and probably Getflix is trying to profit before Netflix can find a permanent work around geoblockers

Either way, good deal while it lasts

    • -6

They don't really have to 'find a permanent workaround' they can just block getflix's IP. Not really sure why they haven't already. But enjoy it while it lasts.

      • +6

        Until Getflix changes their IPs.

      • +1

We're ultimately talking about IP ranges here, which can be bought and sold.

      • +3

thats what they did. that & it appears to have targeted IP blocks from datacentres.
It'll depend on how much they play cat & mouse.

The thing is it's not just Netflix they're useful for.
I use (DNS4me) to watch NRL matches, use amazon prime (music & apps), UK & US catchup channels.

    • Yup, these lifetime deals from Getflix are a sham. For those of us with flagged Netflix account things have been rocky over the last few months with Getflix.

You'd want to get atleast 2 years service for this to be worthwhile and I am not too sure whether Getflix will last that long or not….

  • +8

Great business idea. Sell what you can't likely provide. Take the money and run.

It's called the "Dick Smith Strategy"

        The Dick Move.

      • Getting Dicked

    • +2

I know religions that do that….. wait, all religions do that. Wait, so Dick Smith is a religion???

      • Hahaha thanks for this

      • No he was just a naughty boy.

      • I wouldn't mind meeting a few Dick worshippers

    • +1

It turns out quite well for customers sometimes. I've still got a VPS with ChicagoVPS that I'm paying US$49/trianually for. The new owners (colocrossing) still honor it, works out to around AU$1.85/mo for 2GB ram, 50GB SSD, 3TB bandwidth. I'll admit the service was average for the first few months, though with the new owners it's a high-quality server for $1.85/mo…

The original owners were known for doing 2/3 year deals just to stay afloat, though using my trusty credit card (which I could ofc charge back if the worst happen) it was definitely a risk worth taking.

Moral of the story, worth the risk when it's this cheap.

  • +3

Been using Getflix since August last year and have had no problems so far.

    • +3

Me too, but I lost a lot of regions when Netflix started cracking down on all the geo-unblockers.

I can still get US and UK, and I managed to watch something in Canada recently, in 5.1 no less, though the quality kept flipping between two levels (looked something like 720p and then 576p and back again).

But a lot of the good movies/shows are in South America, Denmark, Germany and other places because it's cheap to license English content there. Hope they can stay in business and get a workaround for some of those regions…

      • +1

I watched The 100 today from Canada in 1080p. :)

It's always the usual issues (ISP, time of day, congestion etc).

      • +4

Apparently their work around is a lot more intensive on their servers, hence the drop in region support and patchy quality.

    • I've been using getflix since last year and primarily use my ps4 for Netflix. I constantly get "you are using a proxy server" detection errors that stop my videos from playing. I have to use their mobile app to change from one US server to another then it will work for 2 or 3 videos before bringing up the error again.

Looks like this service is nearing its end.

      • did u do the whole 'create a new PSN account, with details pointing to USA'?
i havent had any issues using this step?

        • No but I have always used a US PSN, never created an Australian one before so I don't think that's the issue.

      • Are you changing DNS/etc settings at router level, rather than on each individual device?

The Netflix app(s) had at least two measures to stop people evading - one was defaulting to Google DNS, the other was tagging accounts internally. Last time I checked, the only 'safe' workaround was blocking Google DNS in the router..

(Ps. Not defending them - I cancelled after weeks of troubleshooting and I have a modem that doesn't support it.. will maybe look at a second bridged router when I have more time to binge).

Lifetime 30 years? Is there anything I missed? Is the world going under again in 30 years?

    • +13

      It's a Mayan thing.

    • +1

Do you know if you do bad things and get 'life sentence', it is roughly about 30 years too? - sent from Alcatraz Island

    • They mean your lifetime. They are basically saying you'll probably be dead by then.

      • +1

        eneloop poisoning.

    • given the rapidly shrinking prices I suspect 30 years is far longer than a lifetime for Getflix.

  • +2

Always used to pay monthly (or 3 months) Unotelly since 2011, Nov last year thought of subscribing for the annual pack…and now, Netflix US doesn't work, and Unotelly doesn't officially support Netflix US either. :|

  • Getflix includes a VPN as well so even if you only get a few months out of it this deal is worth it

    • +2

I mainly use it for the VPN (for ughhh… stuff) now that I can't get US Netflix working.

      • +3

I was just watching US netflix using Getflix about 5 minutes ago.
        Paid about $32 last year.
I think if it wasn`t for getflix, I would have given Netflix (Australia)he flick and just got the free presto viewing deals that come up often.

      • What's the VPN like for 'ughh… Stuff'? Logging, Speeds etc

        • +1

It's good. They claim to keep no logs. Torrent speeds for me typically max out at around 4-6 MBps. If you're not downloading torrents, the Aussie servers are good for 9+ MBps.

  • +3

Hope this works better than my year Uflix subscription I bought that stopped working in 3 months.

    • +2

My uFlix subscription is still working. It used to break and I had to change it to another region (eg. flick it between US and UK). But recently, it has been very stable.

I even bought a router to load their custom firmware but have not needed to do it as all seems to be working fine.

      • Hhmm interesting. I'll give it another crack.

    • I was with uflix and they were great until the crackdown when it became a bit unstable. My sub expired just when they started to suggest buying a second router. I'm not real keen on that because it's another device to run (ozb4lyfe) and it seems like a clumsy solution.

My ISP offers free Australian Netflix traffic and I've got a few devices in the house. I use to have my PlayStation set to America (with medium quality video) and my appletv set to Australia (HD and free).

Instead of logging into the website to change region, I just switch devices. Much easier for my gf to manage.

Does anyone know if getflix can offer the same options?

  • +2

Getflix says they're overhauling their services, and it's currently working for multiple locations (e.g. US, Canada, Japan) after the Netflix proxy crackdown and their contuining it for others as well

  • +10

I bought their 30yr deal last year, been using it daily since, no problems, when Netflix rolled out the new protection I just needed to switch regions to a new US one, since then they have rolled out new region servers for a number of other regions that bypass Netflix protection. I think the reason for this is Netflix isn't actually trying to stop people, they are just doing the bare minimum to appease their content providers, so I don't think Getflix will ever stop working completely for Netflix, but it's also usable for Hulu and BBC and a bunch of other places, and as others have said, the VPN is useful from time to time.

  • +1

Does it work for UK Netflix?

    • Yes, UK was down for a week or two, but it's OK now.

  • +1

After being a happy unotelly user for a year I got sick of it no working reliably and tried a getflix trial. Once setup has barely missed a beat and certainly increased the "wife acceptance factor" :)

I'm due to buy another 3 months so not a huge leap/risk to try the lifetime plan. I purchased one for someone else that has been running fine for 6 months so they've gotten close to their monies worth.

What I was wondering is how people find their VPN service. I'm currently with PIA and it's pretty good and their apps work well on Mac, Windows and iOS but just wondering if anyone has any real world experience with the getflix vpn?

  • +3

Can you stack two or three 'life-time' together to make this last 60 - 90 years?
assuming both you and GetFlix can still survive that long… Getting ready to see the fast and the furious 100.

    • What… are they going to do a "Weekend at Bernie's" with PW's body?
      :D

  • people, it's like $2 a year with a VPN. i'm like….woooahhh. been using for the last 2 years…..happy as…not so happy when i see them rolling out 30 years subscription for 50 bucks! i paid over 30 a year! but still can't fault their service thus far.

    • What region sells Netflix for $2/yr?

      • +1

there are multiple free websites that are unblocked as well.

        EPL on StarSports(India) for one.
Much better quality than shitty streams and don't have to fork over $50 a month to Foxtel for it.

        • ignore sorry

  • +2

One day when Foxtel offer $100AUD for 'life-time' Foxsport channels, you know they won't be bidding for any serious sporting events anymore. It is not that difficult to understand the same concept here.

  • +1

I've been on the lifetime for 4 months and was with them for over a year before that. Happy with the service. I haven't really been disrupted since this Netflix thing. Twice I've had to check their Facebook page and change servers (about 2 mins work if that). Last time was over a month ago. I do only watch US usually, but they say US, UK, Canada, Netherlands, Denmark and Japan are all supported using their new method. Might be worth trying their free trial and see how it goes with the devices/regions etc that you use before committing. Obviously no guarantee that it will work into the future though.

  • I would be all over this if it was a monthly subscription, but I can't even see the logic of buying a year(and why 30yr?) if Netflix has already demonstrated they're against geo-blocking.

    • Monthly US $35.10?

I pay $35 a year, this doesn't seem to bad in comparison.

  • +1

I'm still paying monthly for getflix and love them :) have had a few issues with netflix but I blame them for that not getflix.

Last night I watched GOT on the HBONow app and tonight I'm watching multiple courts at the French open on the Eurosport app neither would be possible without Getflix

    • +1

Do you pay for Eurosport channel?

      • Yes I've purchased a one month sub won't likely go past that.
I've been impressed by the quality of the broadcast, I'm airplaying it from my iphone to the appletv it has not buffered and appears to be HD the only problem is that it won't allow the phone to be used at the same time without killing the airplay. I plan on searching the appletv store to see if there a native app just haven't had time yet.

  • +5

I can't decide whether I should jump on this or not. All these conflicting comments… ugh.

    • me too…well you've got 3 days left to make a decision :P

    • I was with UnblockUS until the Netflix cull. I've switched to Getflix on a recommendation of a friend, and so far so good. I occasionally need to go back into my Account to renew my IP, but I chose the US region from their recommended list and so far, so good with Netflix.

They do have a 14 day trial I think, so maybe see if that works?

      • Yeah. Started 14 day trial which will I have now 2 days to figure out. So far so good. I had recommendations for Uflix also but everywhere you go there's somebody that's having trouble with some SmartDNS company…

  • +2

happy getflix customer here as well. I have the lifetime subscription as well

  • +1

I have had Getflix now for about a year working well the majority of time. In the last month Getflix has been failing badly, to the point where I had to try something else- completely not working(and I tried everything to make it work). 1o days ago I tried Uflix and its been perfect. At $2.75 per month I think that all anyone should commit to. Any one of these companies may be blocked permanently at any time. My recommendation is just go month to month with Uflix- at the grand total of $2.75 per month its a cheap bet- cancel anytime.

  • Worked out to be about AUD $50. Good deal!! Only for new accounts. The code must be activated on Getflix within 30 days.

  • -1

People still use Netflix? I cancelled my sub instantly after using Kodi. There's just nothing like it!

    • I use netflix, plex, kodi and free presto. no reason why you cant have both!

    • Don't understand this? Isn't it the same as saying I don't go to the movies anymore since I got a cd player? Different things.

      • I'm just saying why bother paying for a vpn/proxy etc to get those extra channels, when you can get Kodi for free and if it comes with those channels and more?
