        • @lovepeoplenotmoney: I have raised it by showing yours and unicorn's messages to the staff at Geekbuying several times a day with the recommendation of a refund as it was GB's fault for not cancelling the order.

Having Dora take over from Debbie is a result of my messages from yesterday it seems.

You might not believe me but I am trying my best to get a resolution. Becoming what Gearbest was is exactly what I'm trying to prevent.

        • @Clear: Would Geek Buying be willing to suggest any other solution/s to remedy this?

        • @Clear: So now they have put me back to Debbie to say: "phone has already been shipped out, we cannot cut it back". I know Debbie! Offer a better solution than to repeat yourself!!

        • @Clear: I'm curious, how did you raised my issue because Geek Buying is unwilling to cancel my order when I followed your instructions. Does Geek Buying know you advised me?

I sent this email to Debbie today: Debbie,

How about Geek Buying offering a better solution then just making me wait 2 or so months until you get your phone back to refund me for MY money after I already told you not to send it off?

If you can't offer a better solution, how about you get your manager or Dora or anyone else who can help you with the problem that you created and you aren't willing to fix?

        • @unicorns: Basically I've explained what's happened and that they should refund you. They know that I advised you.

Besides the options they've given you, the only other suggestion I have is the same thing I said to lovepeoplenotmoney. A dispute.

        • @Clear: It doesn't seem like it when the latest reply received today is:

          "hi dear,
we are sorry for the delay.
if you don't want the phone, please refuse to sign once the parcel is reaching you.
and let it be returned.we apologize for the inconvenience."

IF what you say is true, that you have RAISED the issue with GeekBuying. That they KNOW they should be refunding me and you REALLY CARE and GeekBuying REALLY CARES, how about suggesting to GeekBuying (since the support channel/Debbie is only capable of repeating the above and processing orders opposite to what is requested) that since the price was advertised for $213 AUD, that instructions were asked for and not provided, that the only available email to cancel orders is through Debbie but Debbie willingly ignored my cancellation requests, that Geek Buying reimburse me for the difference in the advertised price?

Otherwise Geek Buying should not be advertising on their website an email address to cancel orders through since that would be false advertising:

          [email protected]
About payment failure, invalid coupon, duplicated orders, cancel orders, report error

        • +1

@unicorns: This experience really consolidates proof why buyers must beware of geekbuying

        • +1

          @lovepeoplenotmoney:

Fear not my fellow oz Bargainers, there may be a way for you all to get your money back!!

So to update everyone who has been having issues similar to me, putting through a request to Geek Buying to cancel and the request not being processed correctly, DEFINITELY RAISE A DISPUTE WITH PAYPAL.

TIP: I found that by calling Paypal, they will help by putting you through the right dispute channel. [I raised a dispute electronically initially and they just cancelled on me because apparently it wasn't the right dispute] For me, Paypal processed it as a non-receipt claim.

You can check your progress in the Resolution Centre in your Paypal account. In addition, Paypal will also be sending email updates.

          1. Firstly, a dispute will be raised - in this stage all disputed funds are held until the issue is resolved.

I paid by way of credit card through paypal and paypal informed me that as soon as the order is put through, the seller can send off the product even if you ask them to cancel because the seller received the money already [that would have been handy to know]. But if a dispute with paypal is raised, they will look into it and it's a way to get your money back. [The benefits of Paypal :) Thank goodness!!] If both parties can't come to a resolution at this stage, Paypal escalates to a claim.

          2. Claim- Paypal will then review the case. This may take up to 30 days. The next stage would then be:

          3. Awaiting the Other Party's Response - Paypal asks the seller for more information. If the seller doesn't respond within 10 days, Paypal will close case and returns money to rightful owner.

The seller must have responded to Paypal because I noticed I'm onto the next stage:

          4. Requiring your action - In this stage, Paypal asks more question of the buyer to determine the rightful owner of the funds.

I wasn't specifically asked any questions from Paypal except did receive an email from Paypal saying if I didn't receive my item by a certain date then money would be refunded to me.

I called Paypal nonetheless to check the status and advise them that:

          A) I had received my product. I couldn't avoid receiving it (as Geek Buying suggested) as it was sent to an address where someone else signed for it on my behalf.

          B) The package was not clearly marked a phone [only markings were: it was shipped from Singapore to Australia marked as a gift and valued at $20.00. Interestingly no address from the seller - dodgy] so I opened the package.

          C) My repeated requests to Geek Buying requesting cancelling.

          D) The advertised price was different to what they charged me!

          E) The phone that I ordered and requested cancellation was advertised as a Redmi 3 pro and from what i could see on the box, it was a Redmi 3.

          F) I was not happy about returning and having to pay for overseas shipping costs.

Good thing with Paypal is that they informed me they reimburse shipping up to the value of $45.00!!
They send a link for a form to be filled out after I post it.
They also warned me that Paypal will choose the location to return the phone and wait until they supply me with the address to return the phone to and that it most likely would have to be returned overseas.
They told me to ignore the seller (another positive sign) if the seller asks me to return to an address the seller suggests.
I checked Australia post's postage calculator from my post code to China and it looks like it could easily cost me less than $45 to send back with tracking and signing on delivery as well!

So now my case is currently being reviewed through Paypal and they will be getting back to me within 10 days time. I have been informed my prospects of success is strong.

Omgosh thank goodness!!! Looks like I am on my way to getting my money back and shortly, reimbursement for the return shipping. What a relief!

If you haven't done so already, I urge you to put your claim through Paypal!! The seller should not be getting away with your money that easy! Especially dishonest sellers!!

        • @unicorns: That's what I said to you and your friend. A PP dispute was going to be the easiest way of getting something done about it.

At least it's being sorted in the end.

        • +1

@Clear: But can everyone see just how willful Geekbuying are at dishonouring buyer requests, even your advice?

        • @Clear: GeekBuying just can't be bothered with upholding cancellation requests or even trying to troubleshoot customer complaints.

And what about the stress, anger and frustration of the customer? Who is willing to compensate me for that? Geekbuying? I may be getting my money back but what about the misleading advertising?

The fact that you haven't specified that settings needs to be changed in paypal on your advertisement also shows you don't care who else gets caught up in the same mess.

It's obvious I'm not the only one experiencing this. Does GeekBuying think that it's the norm to experience this with every purchase since they can't be bothered to do anything about it?

I am taking the time to post this so others can see firsthand just how much GeekBuying cares about their customer. Or lack of.

        • @unicorns:
Give your credit card company a call and ask them to do a chargeback.

        • @aarick: Thanks for the suggestion. Have also done that but it's taking a while for them to get back to me, no update yet.

  • Yep, I just bought one and it works.. Look for +Applycode when you checkout in left hand side.. It was a bit tricky to find.

    • How much were you charged in the end?

      • 221 dollars of which I get 7 dollars from cashrewards

        • -6

Cancel the transaction because they over-charged you, see above discussion. Use PayPal protection dispute and share your dispute reference number so we all coordinate case action against them.

        • +4

          @lovepeoplenotmoney:

As explained above, you need to change your settings if you want to pay in USD. Otherwise PayPal will do the USD > AUD conversion instead of your credit card and you'll end up paying more with a weaker exchange rate.

Instructions on how to change your PayPal billing currency:
Login to PayPal, click settings, click payments, click pre-approved payments, click select available funding sources, next to the credit card you want to pay with click 'conversion options', then click 'Bill me in the currency listed on the seller's invoice.'

        • @hamza23: see above comment. cancellation request was made and completely disregarded by GeekBuying.

        • @hamza23: The cancellation request was made to you, and willful disregard of the cancellation request was proven by responding to the very same cancellation request email! Such unethical practice persists to disrespect and lower the standard of professionalism, willfully strives to dishonour merchant obligations, and processed the transaction to avoid cancellation. Very dodgy merchant, beware

        • @lovepeoplenotmoney:

I'm not associated with Geekbuying. I was just letting you know how to pay in the sellers listed currency in PayPal as there was some misinformation about that. Hopefully that helps for next time, I'll leave you to it.

        • Hope you are successful getting your money back. It feels like GeekBuying are trying to rake in as much money as they can and rip off as many people as they can

  • +1

I'm kicking myself. I paid $300 for mine. Still. $300 for this phone is still worth it. I think I'm an official Xiaomi fan now. My family have been using their things for years, and I kept scoffing at them. Now that I own one, the value for money beats anything else out there. Sure there's a band that's missing from the 4G frequencies, but I'm quite happy on 3G. I don't have lots of data anyway, and I'm happy to use free wifi where available.

  • Any phone technies have any criticisms about the snapdragon 616 and adreno 605?

  • anyone had any luck pairing this phone to stock bluetooth in Subaru Impreza's? I have tried a redmi note 2 prime with no such luck (pairs fine: recipient can hear you but no sound via speakers) , but asus zenfone 2 had no problems.????

    • Check Bluetooth options (>). Phone audio and media audio needs to be on.

      • Thank you…..Was only connecting phone audio only. paired both audio and media. Selected both under bluetooth options. now it works.

        Thank you!

  • Is the phone delivered in an unopened box or does Geekbuying open the box to install their own custom rom.

I ask because there does not appear to be an official international ROM available for download on the xiaomi website.

    • +1

I am curious about the ROM too, rep.

Do we need to flash the ROM with the international ROM?

  • I got the Mi5 few days ago, it's got some crapware inside, I really need to re-flash the phone but non of the instruction is clear enough to do it. Does anyone know how? thanks for your help.

  • +1

Somthing funny with the exchange rate - giving me 154 USD but ~220 AUD (should be about $213 AUD)

    • That was the exchange rate at time of posting. PayPal have a currency conversion fee. I recommend using a CC without fees if you have one.

      • +1

Where is the option to use credit card? There's only PayPayl or western union, without any option to use credit card.

    • +1

We had the same problem too in the previous replies from earlier. You should check with that to see what happens first before buying.

    • -1

Check with the guy's response in the discussion above. He's going to make you pay $222 because of a restriction at the payment stage. Beware buying.

  • +2

Really not happy with GEEK BUYING - I bought the phone already and paid for delivery too to get this delivered within 3 to 5 business days.. Date - 29 MAY

Next day I get an email saying:

    "Thanks for your order.
We are sorry to inform you that the TNT couldn't ship from HK warehouse which you ordered from .
Please be at ease. For this case, we will ship it by DHL which usually takes 3-5 business days to you ."

At this stage, I was fine. Date - 30 May

But today I got another email today saying:

"Estimated Delivery is about 15 to 30 days " - Date 1 May

I lost 3 days and I still have to wait for 15 to 30 days..

PLEASE BEWARE. I am going to cancel this order!

    • The delivery time does not include processing.

If you send me your order number I can confirm what method of shipping they're actually using.

      • Thanks, I have PM'ed you the order number.

      • +1

        Hi Clear

Can you please check the status of my order - #3672949?

Payment was made 7 days ago, and I dont think its been shipped yet? Are geekbuying able to just cancel this order and refund payment in full? Not very happy with a 7 day wait with no action taken…

        • Send an email to [email protected]

A lot have been shipping this week so it may be sent out tomorrow.

    • +1

Actually, becareful because they will send the item anyway even after you cancelled like we did. Geekbuying, Clear, hamza23; try to avoid culpability to excuse them from refunding you. Please dispute PayPal buyer protection.

      • I'm not associated with Geekbuying, I was just trying to assist you use PayPal. I'm a Moderator on OzBargain. I'll turn my tag on a I'm not sure you are following. Associated users like Clear have an 'associated' or 'store rep' tag next to their username.

        • Thanks for clarifying and my apologies for mis-referencing you. Many requests were made to Geekbuying and Clear to fix the problem, but willful neglect and disregard for customer requests were dishonoured in order to avoid the cancellation requests as **opportunistic* means to keep customers' money.

    • +1

I had the same message. It's certainly inconvenient, and you'd think they could disable the TNT Option for products shipped from their HK warehouse, but it's not the end of the world.

Still a good deal for this phone - I just hope it doesn't actually end up taking 30 days to arrive (Still waiting for confirmation the product has been shipped, 5 days after placing the order)

      • +1

Should have read our warnings, Geekbuying have been dodgy to @unicorns

    • +1

Yep I got the same message. I only saw it this morning though so 12 hours after it was sent. :/
I have responded saying I would be happy with DHL if there was no additional charge.
Kinda annoyed as well that I had to pay for speedy delivery when the Ad said it shipped with 2-7 days.
If they tell me I have to pay more I am going to attempt to cancel as well as it was suppose to be a phone to use while my current phone is away for warranty. 15 to 30 days delivery I will most likely have my phone back before then.

      • -3

I've put the request in to remove the option of TNT on the HK warehouse in future.

Any problems PM me your order number and I'll help out.

        • +1

Well I am not sure what is happening. They have partially sent my order via the 15-30 days shipping as it is in the China warehouse even though I paid for TNT for the whole order.
But the phone itself has not been sent.
There has been no response yet to DHL shipping at the same price or why the phone was not sent.
I will PM you my order number to see if you can find out what is happening.
          Thanks.

EDIT: My bad I re read the original email they sent about not shipping via TNT and saw the said "Please be at ease, for this case, we will ship it by DHL which usually takes 3-5 business days to you." Thought they asked if I wanted it shipped by DHL :/
Not sure why they sent the rest of the gear via normal instead of TNT though. A bit disappointing that the car mount etc that I got for the phone will not arrive close to the same date as the phone.

        • +1

@escorpse: double check the email, they want me to pay $32 extra for DHL shipping. Mighty annoyed

Please be at ease, for this case, we will ship it by DHL which usually takes 3-5 business days to you ."

and "If you do not want to ship it by DHL, we’ll change it to registered airmail which usually takes 15-30 business days ,we will refund the shipping fee to you."

No mention of having to pay.

Everything bar the phone has been shipped though. Still waiting to see tracking for it. Annoying as the first time I dealt with them everything was great. Now this.

        • +2

          Hi Clear,

I realise you are not a direct employee of GeekBuying, but you do marketing for them. I bought your deal, only to be told I needed to pay an extra $32 for DHL shipping as I couldn't wait the 15-30 days otherwise. I have since bought another phone elsewhere and requested my order cancelled immediately. Suddenly they can ship through somewhere else. I want this order cancelled and I want it cancelled now. My order is 367657. I am mightily unimpressed with this company and they've left a hell of an impression to a first time buyer.

          Regards, Joshua Webb

          hi rep

I placed an order on the 1/6 and paid for DHL however still no news on when order will be shipped…..order no 3675445…my understanding was that I will have parcel to me in 7 days but it seems order is not even shipped yet

        • @alfa3276: Shipping time does not include processing time.

          I'll see where it's at.

Thx for the update but 7 day to processing seem bit odd…

i'm on the same boat as you. REALLY PISSED OFF with Geek Buying!!!!! Such disgusting dishonest company!!!

  • +1

Have just requested to have my order cancelled. Like the rest who ordered I got the email about no TNT from this warehouse, along with a request for $32 to ship via dhl or wait 15-30 days. No thanks

    • You're another victim, I hope you post all the specific details of your case, just like the articles I've embedded above. We can compile them to take legal case action.

  • +1

I was just going to pull the trigger on the gold version and read the above comments about TNT shipping.

  • When I try to use the coupon, I get "Sorry, the coupon code is not valid for orders less than USD 169." and if I make my order larger it then says "Sorry, the coupon code is only valid when the item sells no less than USD169." I feel like I'm doing something wrong, I've tried both codes and I add the silver phone to cart
In addition is there any of a coupon code for package B silver? I'd totally buy that as a package rather than separately.

    Cheers!

    • Have a look through this deal, which is cheaper. First check if anyone is having any problems.

  • I purchased it on the 31/5/16 as I am leaving the country for a long while on the 24th of June I opted for the TNT shipping method only to receive and email a few days later prompting me to pay the $32USD for DHL to ship me the package as TNT was not available. I paid the $32USD as I am in a rush to get it, I sent them an email asking them to reimburse me the TNT shipping cost only having them ask me to pay the fee for DHL AGAIN? I would rather get all my money back now than wait god knows how long for this phone to arrive.

    • Send me your order number and I'll get it sorted.

      • 3674499 is the original order number
3683003 is the order number for paying the DHL shipping fee

        • +1

Sent them multiple emails asking to be refunded the TNT shipping cost I paid and still no reply…

        • @Chooka13: Geekbuying will not refund you and do everything they can to ensure they keep your money.

Just got my phone after many e-mails pushing for a tracking number and getting many promises… I bought this for my mothers birthday as her old Iphone is failing.
I thought I'd better open the box and check if it's a 'real' Xiaomi phone. The packaging did look a little faded and just didn't seem right.
I've gone to http://www.mi.com/verify/#imei_en to check the serial number and IMEI and is coming up as an invalid number..
Is there anything else I can do to check if it's authentic?
How should I approach this? I paid with an Amex card through paypal

    • Losing the IMEI is a common issue after flashing some ROMs and is all over the mi forums. In this case I suspect it was the international ROM did it, but I don't know for certain.

Many people on the forum pointed to this or this to get it back.

    • Report this to PayPal, try as much as you can to get your money back. Also warn as many people as you can about Geekbuying.

    • Mine just arrived today and same story - IMEI coming up an invalid number.

  • The IMEI on the box is the same as the one on the device… so nothing was lost

  • and the box and product doesn't have the product authorization security code like it should

    • I've never seen a fake of this phone before. What's your order number?

  • My order number is 3672648

    • Thanks. I'll speak with GB.

      • +1

I'm not hearing from anyone.. I need an answer/resolution very soon as the phone is meant to be a gift tomorrow.
Can you do some pushing for me clear?

        • Alright I've asked them to make it a priority.

        • thank you :)

        • +1

          Still no response
I'm going to contact PayPal early tomorrow. I would have thought this would have been a high priority for GB..
          Very desapointed.

        • @bcouper: With it being only 5:38pm in Shenzhen, there are at least 4 more hours to respond. I'll raise it with them again.

It might not have a 20 digit code because it's an international version. Indian stock doesn't.

        • @bcouper: We got scammed when we followed advice to cancel. Geekbuying are not to be trusted

        • They ending up responding…. but i still haven't been given a good explanation as to why there is no security sticker or officially verifiable IMEI code.
How can I be sure this isn't a fake?
And I don't understand why Indians are not given the same opportunity as the rest of the world is, to check if their phone is genuine.

        • @bcouper: Staff on the mi.com forums have mentioned that some new products like the Mi5 for example no longer include an authentication label. I spoke to a manager at GB and they're seeking clarification from Xiaomi.
