If you're one of those nvidia fanboys who want to get this card ASAP, and would rather pay RRP than $1200 for local stock, here it is. Shipping costs considerably cheaper than the massdrop deal, you're guaranteed not to pay the 10% GST for >$1000, and you're getting it from Amazon which should ship faster and be easier to deal with re returns.

I personally don't see the hype of getting a card so early and would recommend you wait for the price to fall (or just wait for the GTX 980ti deals), but if you want it immediately, then this may not be a bad deal to consider.

Btw, the Evga/Gigabyte/Msi/etc are still selling for USD200 more, will update post if they fall to RRP.

    • It's $300 ($200?) cheaper than buying locally.

      • +1

Sure, but that just shows that the local prices are far, FAR above RRP.

    • It is the founders edition, not the regular 1080.

This seems to be RRP for the founder's edition. Probably best to wait for the custom cooler cards as they are meant to be cheaper. Not to mention AMD's offerings are set to be announced in the next week or two.

  • Any aftermarket card will always be cheaper (even if it's just by 10-20USD like a comment above) and run cooler, more powerful, too (Many cards would also use custom PCB instead of reference). So unless you really need a new GPU now, I believe other cards should come out within a week or two.

While a good price compared to Australian pricing, aftermarket ones would provide superior values (if you can wait a little more)

  • If memory serves correctly for tax valuation purposes the currency is converted on the day that it ships and not on the day of the purchase. So if the dollar weakens a lot it may come in over $1k thus paying GST and duty. I haven't looked at import taxes for a few years, but pretty sure that was the rule when I last researched it.

    • It is the rule, as talked about in the main post.
And yeah I'm not really sure when it's finalised, I assume it would say what you paid, not its item valuation at the time of shipping on the outside. I guess if it says the USD ammount and customs see it and work it out and its over 1k, then u might be in

I clicked on the link and it says, 2 new from $899.99
think they had too many orders and so pulled the price.

    • Yep, it's over for now.

  • there are some experts here so ill ask. if I upgrade to the 1070 will my 8 gig of ddr3 cut it? its a 3rd gen i5 hence the ddr3. keep in mind I like to game but always looking for the sweet spot in price performance over bragging rights (I am an ozbargainer after all.)

    • +1

Yes, 8GB is very capable. People will suggest you buy more, but it won't offer that much.

If you spot faster 16 DDR3 RAM on a deal, consider getting it then, but only some circumstances will it improve performance.

    • Yeah, 8gb of DDR3 is still the sweet spot. It may require a bit of memory management on your part, as in you will likely run into ram bottlenecks (fps drops, stuttering in game) if you attempt to, for example, play battlefield with 40 tabs running in the background (at roughly ~80% memory usage will yield negative effects on experience regardless of speeds). At this point, DDR4 is a slight improvement over DDR3 with respect to gaming and general usage performance, and is thus only really worth upgrading too if you are forced into it due to a CPU upgrade.

  • OR another way is to get it in an all in one!

  • I'm still running a HD6850 from 2011 lol, I'm going to put a 1080 into my new build. Going to be a friggen beast

  • Still running GTX 560. Will this card run DoTA2?? :)

seems cheaper than original post and looks like it ships to AU

    • Similar price after delivery is factored in. Damn it is out of stock now :( saw it a few hours earlier and it was in stock, forgot to post it.
