  • Good value?

    • Well it's basically a Mac Air and from experience the build quality of ASUS is not as high as Apple's; keyboard, touchpad, screen snd chassis

It is built for Windows though, that's what you prefer

  • Yeah. And cheaper. Need for video editing.

  • I got the previous model ux305fa new for $680 on previous ebay deal, i5-5200, 128gb ssd, 4gb ram, 13.3" fhd ips .

The new model has a qhd screen which is what your paying extra for, bit overkill really.

    • This one is 1080p

    • Does it have backlit keyboard?

      • Nope. One of the reasons I didn't buy one a few months ago.

  • possible to upgrade SSD in this by any chance?

    • No, nor the ram.

It's a great laptop, i bought one a couple weeks ago… before it went on sale :(

      • According to this it's a regular M2 SSD.

        http://www.ultrabookreview.com/10058-asus-zenbook-ux305ua-re…

        • Yeah you might be right, but taking it apart isn't going to be fun.

        • @Jorkus:
I bought the 303UA a couple of months ago and replaced the SSD with a Samsung Evo. It was not really a pleasant experience. The torq screws stripped very easily. I bought some phillips head screws which were the same size from overseas to replace them.

        • @Cheap Charlie:
I bought a torq head screwdriver set just for the job. Still stripped quite badly. Probably would work better with an electric screwdriver though.

        • @Cheap Charlie:

Yeah it was only a couple of screws that I had issues with.

  • +3

I wish it had a touch screen and backlit keyboard. It would have been a perfect ultrabook for me.

    • +2

How about this: Asus Zenbook UX303LA 13.3" (FHD) Touch Intel Core i5 256GB SSD 8GB Windows 8 Ultrabook

If you are ok with 5th Gen i5, you get Back-lit Keyboard and Touch for ~$1,119.20 (after 20% off) plus the higher capacity SSD, 256GB.

more than 10 available (but over 94% sold)

      Futu_Online and Brand New

Does look a bit thicker though… and it's 1.45 Kg

      • Thanks nismo. I would prefer 6th gen CPU and weight no heavier than 1.4kg. Yes I'm a very picky person..

        • No problem. I am still using an old Asus U30SD!

2nd gen i5, 1.98kg, bought for ~$600 at msy nearly 5 years ago.

I can't justify spending over $1K for myself, so I'd want those kind of specs under $1K! Like $700-800 max.

        • @nismo: So I am not the only one still using something of that vintage….I have a U36SD that has been SSD/RAM/Windows 10 upgraded..>I wish I could get a better screen but it runs beautifully still.

Looking at UX303/UX305 for my GF hence browsing old threads

        • +1

          @aim54x:
          Yep, I've done the RAM/SSD/W10 also :)

I've actually got 2 SSD's, one has Win 10 the other Win 7.

Yeah, those ASUS models are quite appealing, just a bit out of my "I must buy it" price range.

Strangely, my eBay link above now goes to a HP ProBook - seems Futu is playing funny buggers with eBay item numbers, because the Sales History goes back to March - which is the History of the UX303 I linked - this has me worried how often this happens?

        • @nismo: I can't say I've paid to much notice about eBay IDs.

I'm looking to snap one of the UX303UB's from tonight's SE epic hour

The ultra-sharp screen has an amazing up to QHD+ resolution of 3200 by 1800 pixels

Screen Size 13.3" 16:9 IPS Full HD 1920x1080

    so which is it?

    • I spent too long typing my question, you beat me to it.

    • up to QHD+ resolution of 3200 by 1800 pixels

      There you go.
They probably copied the description off the ASUS website for the UX305 line which has several variants.

  • The description claims both 3200x1800 and 1920x1080 resolution. This review says ASUS offers it in both, but I don't know how to tell which is which.

    • Yes, this offer looks like the 1920*1080 screen version.

Price $1080 is a $200+ saving over Umart, who sell this notebook for $1299 here:

      https://www.umart.com.au/umart1/pro/Products-details.phtml?i…

    • +2

Good point, thanks. I would actually prefer the lower resolution I think, trying to push too many pixels on underpowered hardware is a bad idea in my experience. Also you'd have to use Windows scaling on everything so it wasn't minuscule.

  • Interested in buying this for sure - couple of questions though:

what is the video card on this?

Also, is it possible to get TRS from this company?

    • Are these sales GST inclusive?

If you pay GST you can claim it back via TRS, but if you don't, then no dice..

Trouble is, I can't tell whether or not GST is included from the webpage…

This with a touch screen and backlit keyboard for the same price would make me drool. Unfortunate it has neither :(

    • -2

      It also needs neither?

Either feature would also add the the weight.

      • If you have ever tried typing in low light (eg. on a plane at night) you'll know how useful a backlit keyboard can be. As for touch screen, personally I think it has limited appeal on a non 2-in-1 notebook. It'll also push up the price significantly.

        • +3

Learning to touch type is the best bargain :)

I have the 305FA version of this which is the core M 5y10 with 4gb RAM / 128gb SSD for about 6 months. Beautiful machine, great IPS screen, great battery life, bit slow but fine for web browsing/MS Office, but the core i5 would fly. Very solid build quality with aluminium case and keyboard is solid.

This model (i5) has a bigger battery so expect 10-12 hours real world battery life. Only negative I would say is the trackpad is not so great, but I always use a wireless mouse. Just remembered lack of backlit keyboard, this would be also be handy, slight negative but depends if you need it.

But you won't get better build quality on Windows laptop, on par with Mac hardware IMHO.

  • Great for the portability and screen. Should be pretty zippy with the ssd, too

  • Still think Dell Inspiron 13 7000 was a better deal. For $639.20, it ticked all boxes, probably except the weight(1.66Kg).

As someone mentioned , 13" MacBook Air is selling at the same price as a part of the Ebay Group Deal. It is worth to give it a look if you don't mind Mac OS X.

        Inspiron are pretty uninspiring

Sounds like you have never touched this variant of the Inspiron. ZenBook is undoubtly good, but this Inpiron is not bad either. Heck it even has a touch screen and backlit keyboar, which this Zenbook lacks.
        http://www.dell.com/au/p/inspiron-13-7347-laptop/pd

Macbook Air 13 is $1349 vrs this offer @ $1080.

That's the price before the 20% off. After the discount, MacBook Air 13 is $1079.20 and that's about the same price as this Zenbook($1080, which is the price after the 20% discount).

        • I am looking both and can't decide.
Any advise which one would be better for my son in uni?

        • +1

@A4classic: Depends on what he'll be using it for. For just the usual office applications, browsing, social media etc. either will be fine. The Macbook is probably a bit better built and might have some more "desirability". If he's doing a course were he needs to use custom/specialised software then a windows laptop will be better.

        • +1

@A4classic: ask him. This is much better if he is keen on Windows. The Mac will have good resale value though

    lol ASUS

  • I'm trying to purchase this now, but I don't seem to have an option to enter the CLICK20 code. If you click buy now, you go straight to the 'commit to purchase' page. Can haz help?

Sorted- link is to the Group Buy page, but this needs to be purchased by searching for it through the Futu store.

    Thanks OP

Am I missing something or are they the same?

The ever so slightly more expensive one has Windows 10 Pro, the other Windows 10 Home.
