Note these are very small sizes…

      That's right. This is a 1/4“ set.

  • Can I use for spark plugs as well

    • The short answer to that is no. The pieces in this set would be too small.

What's a set that would have a tool for spark plugs. I bought three different sets and none of them had it. I'm just an amateur mechanic so I don't know what to look for to be honest

        • Most brand name 1/2" sets will have it.

          VV
Below me has a much cheaper suggestion!

        • +1

They're just called spark plug sockets, you can buy them individually. Repco have a pack of the 2 common sizes in their $10 tool bin from memory

I wish metric-only sets were more common. AF is a waste of time, IMO.

Dude I couldn't agree more, I know some people will have a use for them, but most of us won't ever use it so why lug it around for the next 20 years. Waste of space should have a metric set with spanners

I have a Kincrome metric set from Bunnings. Bought several years ago. Very happy with it.

      • Also in full agreement about AF not been needed, I've had a Sidchrome 1/2" socket set for about 20 years. Can't remember ever using the AF sockets, they get in the way when looking for a metric size.
Just got a metric only 1/4" GearWrench from 20% off Masters sale and also feels excellent to use.

    • I work on aircrafts…and we only use AF. IMO, I would rather get a whole set of AF or a whole set of Metric if they sell any.
At the moment, I can only get Snap-On which sells them as a set, not half AF half Metric.

  • hmm it's not on their ebay site for extra 20% off unfortunately

  • Bought one. Thanks OP!

  • i was thinking of getting this from bunnings, but now undecided…

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/kincrome-41-piece-1-4-drive-sock…

might go with the Sidchrome now, but is it really that much better?

The imperial sockets (18 of them) are pretty much unless unless you have a vintage car, you are paying for tools you would never use. The Kincrome also has imperial sockets as well but not as many.

Quality wise they would be about the same.

Look for a metric set at a good price in my opinion.

You canna hand a man a grander spanner

It's an old marketing slogan for Sidchrome from a long time ago, back when Sidchrome was an Australian owned brand that made their own tools here in Australia.

      • Sky blu how old are you?

        • -1

That is unnecessarily irrelevant. I was asking if someone could explain the origin of the slogan.

        • +3

          @sky blu:

It is relevant, only because it was advertised in the 80's and 90's, so I guess younger people may not have heard of it before.

        • @matt_will_fix_it: darn, i thought that was Stanley's slogan… Actually, perhaps it was a hijack on stanley. ie, Stans the man?

  • Great timing! The 1/4" ratchet in one of my sets just started to crap out!

  • Damon.. Out of Stock…. I was too late

  • Damn i missed out. Oh well!

  • Been looking for a basic metric set, 3/8 probably. Really only need 10 & 14mm for oil changes.

  • Got mine today. The inner tray is made out of thin plastic. I don't think it is going to last.

    • I've got a few sets with thin plastic trays and they've lasted very well. Hopefully these last, too.

    • Can you tell me how many teeth there are in the ratchet?

      • do you mean how many clicks per resolution?

        • Yes, that's it.

        • +1

          @Dalton:

          About 72 clicks per revolution.
