  • Just bought and wanted to redeem but cannot, due to being on my P2 QLD license, and not opens… That wasn't mentioned on groupon. Should I ask them for a refund?

    • When can you go for your full license? The voucher doesn't need to be redeemed until September, which works out well for me.

      • Not until march 2017 unfortunately…

    • Glad i didnt end up buying it last night then, thanks for the heads up lol :)

    • P Platers are eligible for Essentials package. I just signed up! $39!

      • +1

How did you do it? Unless I tick the box that says I'm 21 and over with an open license (which I don't have) I can't proceed

        • Tick is needed for platinum.. For essentials you need to select essentials product

  • Just FYI you need to have a full license

    • Thanks. I'm on Red P's so no deal for me!

    • How do they know? Are they asking for licence detail? I dont have Australian licence but i hold full international driving licence and was thinking to buy this deal :\

      • when you accept the terms and conditions.. there is a check box to confirm age and license particulars.

      • I m sailing in the same boat .. Any confirmation that an international drivers license is valid for the deal

        • When my battery failed last month and i called them to jump start the battery they didnt ask for my licence, they only asked for my details and policy number. I believe they will only ask you for your licence if you want to claim the $500 at fault excess

  • On a related topic, Allianz battery service is a bit of a nuisance too. They offer a three year warranty, but if you claim on that warranty you must pay for the battery and call out. You will get a refund if the callout decides the battery is faulty, and you'll get a new battery - it's a bit of a gotcha if you are on your last $100 before payday and they want you to pay $300 to come replace your battery under warranty.

    • +2

The key is to never reach your last $100 before pay day.

      • that's true. But some people don't have a choice, especially someone like my daughter still in high school and with her first car. I paid for the roadside assistance and the battery when it was fitted. But when the battery failed, she tried to use the warranty replacement and thats when we found out you have to pay first, then they will refund you.

        • I'm sorry but there is always a choice. This is $100 and this is Australia. Unless said person had to buy a battery before their 1st birthday, there is always a choice.

          $100 is

          10 meals eaten out,
5 Article of clothes (could even be 1 but i'm severely underestimating)
          30 coffees,
          1 domestic flight,
14 hours of the dodgiest asian boss work.

Yea, there is really never a reason to reach the last $100 before pay day. Manage spending and have a rainy day fund. As a kid I always made sure I had emergency buffer money that I would never spend. I hated asking my parents for money.

@lolbbq: Your utopia must be incredible.

  • Awesome thanks! My $99 renewal with RACQ was due this week! Good bye RACQ!

    • +1

      $#@! missed the cashrewards !!!!!!

  • Me too. Bye RACQ. Hello Allianz-just bought it.

  • +1

RE the tyres part of the deal.

I just got some quotes. With the $100 off, Road Runner (the allianz partners) come and do it at your home for the same price as I could get it done at Bridgestone, same tyre.
So not an altogether bad deal, for the convenience factor.

  • +2

Is Allianz roadside assistance good in Brisbane and surrounding areas?
I have never seen their vehicles around.
I have seen plenty of RACQ vehicles.
They are cheaper at $39 for new client standard level where RACQ is $86, but no point saving $47 if you have to wait for hours when you need them.

    • Same question here, are they good in brisbane?

    • Yeah I had membership with them back in 2013, used once for flat tyre, came in 25min. So I would say not bad. But can't compare them with racq.

This one^ Two good & two bad. That's ok. What's not is that the rep took kudos for the good, skirted one "bad" completely, then ditched (apparently) the other bad where they asked for more details from the reviewer…

    Just an FYI.

    Awesome, thanks OP!

    $39 minus cashrewards 8% is a good deal :)

    • Thanks for that. It worked on Groupon my account.

  • Groupon 12% off code MISSYOU also applied…

Not sure if it works for everyone but did on my existing account so brings price down to $43.12…

    Thanks OP!

  • Can someone please confirm if the $500 insurance excess work for the following scenario?

    • Insurance excess $750.
    • accidentally scratched and damaged the side door (no other vehicles involved)
    • report to the police for reference
    • repair costs $400
    • Claim $500 excess and pay the remaining $250 out of pocket.

    Overall save $150 ($400-250).

    • Check your insurance PDS, as most insurers will not accept a claim where the repair value is lower than the excess payable.

    • Will not work.

  • Does anyone know if you can transfer the package to another vehicle during the 12 months or does it stay with the initial vehicle registered? I'm planning on selling my car in the next couple of months and would like to transfer to the new car at the time.

  • +3

The $90 puncture cover (as part of the premium level) is pretty poor due to the sole provider you can claim it through - a normal puncture repair is fairly cheap (I pay about $25 for car tyres, $35 4x4) but their provider charges $55 plus a $99 call out! Even if you "save" $90, you're still paying almost $40 more for a standard car puncture!

  • got the premium package for $54($69-15(discount code + Cash rewards)). The major benefit that I see is the $500 insurance excess cover, if it really works.

    • Which code did you use for $15?

targeted promo code.. check the Groupon email's .. it should be in between the deal tiles.

        • can you please educate me to try get $54?

          I got: (using RETURN)
          $79 x 0.85 = $67.15

          Cashrewards x 0.92
          =$61.78

        • @chinezejew: I had $10 Groupon credit as well. :P

I just got the following email from 360Assist..funny thing is I bought the standard cover, not the platinum:

ah well, you got a free upgrade

  • What details do they ask you to buy the roadside assistance?
Only about the car covered or also name, surname, address, date of birth, drivers licence number, etc?

  • The problem with Alliance Road service is that they can not compete with RACQ, NRMA, RAA, RACV etc. The problem is there are very few contractors on Alliance's list compared to the mentioned national roadside service that are everywhere in every metropolitan area. What about when go to the country for a drive and breakdown? I know for a fact that you will wait hours for service because they can't get contractors all around Australia.

Also, if you leave the state association you could also lose benefits and discounts on other products (like insurance).

For me, I will stay with my state motoring Ascociation, as I know they cover all of Australia better than any, and I mean any other, so called road service provider.

The Platinum level for $54 as some OZbargainers have bought is a very good deal, but on second thought I will only really need it if towing is necessary (I can replace a flat tyre and have enough mechanical knowledge to fix minor problems on the road unless spare parts are necessary).
In the last 10 years I only required towing once. Was not very far from home and it only costed me $50 (cash no invoice).
Had I paid roadside assistance for 10 years even at only $54 per year it would have costed me $540.
I know it is for peace of mind and some people like to insure against everything, but is it really worth spending $54/year to insure against an unlikely event that may only cost $50-100 (normal towing in metro areas) if it happens?
    OZbargainers' thoughts?

  • I bought this on Thursday 09/06 at 3PM and immediately redeemed it on FixedPrice website.
48 hrs was the turn around for $500 insurance excess and Allianz roadside.
Received email from Road Rewards but not yet from Allianz.

    • 2 weeks and no activation email from Allianz(AGA) yet. Fixed price customer support doesn't have any idea on the status neither does Allianz

Raised a ticket with Groupon for refund.

  • Now the same deal is on Our Deal.
It looks like they are racking up the customer base. They would have sold thousands through Groupon.
But are they increasing the number of assistance vehicles and phone operators to cope with all the new business?

  • +1

I had to use Allianz three weeks ago. I'm based in Brisbane and was driving from Melbourne back to Brisbane. When I was passing through Broadford VIC which is about 1 hr 15 min away from Melb, my car gave an overheating warning so I pulled over and had a look. Looked like a bad water pump. Rang Allianz who got there within about an hour and towed the car all the way back to my friend's mechanic in Malvern.

The repair took two days. Allianz paid for a hotel and car hire for the two days, plus an extra night because the car was ready in the afternoon and I wouldn't be able to leave again till the next morning.

They were quite easy to deal with. They answered the phone really quickly every time I called them. The car hire and hotel is organized by a separate team so every time I had a query they'd have to call me back, usually within ten minutes or so.

I sure am glad I bought platinum cover!

    • hey,
so is this only for a Platinum member getting free car hire/accomo paid for etc? i cant seem to tell.

      • Yup. It's classified under "Emergency travel benefits".
        https://www.allianz.com.au/roadside-assistance/

They also called and paid for the taxi from the mechanic to the car rental location. If my friend and me wouldn't fit in the tow truck, they would have paid for the taxi fare from the breakdown location to the mechanic too.

  • sold out now.
