  • One thing I noticed when I was comparing SP4 to the X2, is that the SP4 has a full sized USB port. That tipped my decision to buy the SP4, I am sure the X2 is a very nice machine too.

I'm pretty sure the resolution is 1920 x 1280 rather than 1080, too.
Source: I own an M5 one of these… also the HP site :)

Sorry for hijacking comment… thought ppl might like to know.

    • is Futu Online is eligible HP Reseller for cashback claim ??

  • Do Windows and Microsoft office work okay on these M processors?

    • I have been using Microsoft Office since Pentium 90Mhz… and they also bundle Microsoft Office 365 on those N2840 Atom processors so I'll think Core M shouldn't have any problem.

      • thanks legend

  • If you are thinking of connect this to an external monitor then read this before you buy

    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Software-and-How-To-Qu…

    • I have used a generic USB-C to HDMI converter and connected it to TV with no issues.

      • I skipped through the post and it seems the issue is while you hook the 1-to-multi adapter and connect any device through the adapter, the machine cannot be charged using the same adapter.

        • I haven't tried that yet. Only disadvantage of charging through USB type C is that, There is only one USB type C port left for everything else.

        • @carlJack: yep I have the Spectre X2 as well and while I do like it, this is one of the drawbacks. I bought a 4-port USB3 hub that was bundled with a little USB-C to USB converter like this, for when I want to connect multiple devices.

      • I guess is just when you want to use it at your desk you can't charge and use external monitor at the same time. Can be annoying.

        • I don't own one, but I reckon you should be able to connect both monitor and mouse to one port and use the other port for charging?

    • i bought this one, and everything works, except power-through.

HP stated that no other charger but original spectre x2 will work.

  • Got one 4 weeks ago with M5,256Gb/8Gbram for 930 AUD (including 200$ cashback and 10% TRS).Excellent machine for the price. Even though this is 12 inch screen, its bigger than SP4. So SP4 sleeves dont fit.

  • Hi guys
How does this compare to this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/251438

Dell Inspiron 13 would be faster. You should get that if you need to work on the laptop whole day with CPU-demanding tasks. The HP here however is a 2-in-1 so it has touch screen and can be transformed into a tablet.

  • Is the new intel core m naming silimar to intel core i.

    I noticed Core m3, m5 & m7 vs core i3, i5 & i7.

Are the performance of Core M at par with Core i processors?

    • From what I can tell, the burst performance of M gets fairly close to the "i" processors, but sustained performance drops off a bit. I have the M5 version and while I haven't taxed it too heavily, it doesn't seem sluggish.

    • On par performance, but better power efficiency

      • This also allows for the 'm's to be fanless. Given that the surface suffers from some thermal throttling problems, I would expect them to be slightly worse with the fanless m design

        • The m's are fanless because they are significantly underclocked.

If you're only going to be using the unit for web browsing and light usage, then the M's are fine.
But if you're going to use it for more complex operations like video encoding or games, you'll find the M's are vastly underpowered.

Watch this for a real life comparison.

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJCL3nFfoMs

    • According to reviews, the m7 is on par or just slightly better than i5.
The main difference of m is that they are fanless and uses less power.

  • worth noting I read the ssd can be upgraded on this.

  • damnit i just bought a surface pro 4 second hand for 1450!

  • i have received this laptop from futu online deal, and i must say im very happy with it.

the kick stand design is totally under rated. after using it for a few days, i love it!
it allows you to hold the tablet in one hand with the stand locking your arm.

my only problem is the lack of accessories…
although i found that the galaxy note pro 12.2" is very similar in screen size, and buying that from xtremeguard to protect the screen.

you also get office 365 for one month, which is not advertised.

there are a few drawbacks however…
one thing is that it cannot use any usbc charger, it has to be hp spectre x2 charger. i testedbwith hp pavilion x2, but it wont charge.
according to hp, this is as preventative measure because there are so many fake chargers out there. however its said that u can charge it if it is shut down.

btw, this version comes with the pen, but no sim card.

    • how is the pen? I didn't know it came with the pen…

      • I think the pen on the Surface tracks really well, feels like pen on paper.
The HP is still very good, just that if you've used both, you notice the slight difference.
        Still very usable though.

The other thing is the shortcuts on the Surface Pen are much better - click the top to open One Note etc. Really good for fast Note taking.

Not sure if you can configure the HP, but the way the HP comes out of the box isn't as good, IMO.

        • I can't comment about the pen much, because I don't use it for drawing or writing. I think it's ok, there are two buttons with it, one of which can be used for right click, the other one not sure what for.
          I haven't explore if it is customisable…

      • Honestly the advertising effort is terrible. They could put more effort in it by specifying that it comes with pen and keyboard, it should help selling it more.

Plus they can explain how the kickstand can be used as a handle, and advantages of it compare to the surface.

In my opinion, I like this design better than the Surface, apart from the Surface being smaller, and has no bloatware, and higher screen resolution.

  • Which one are you buying? which one should I buy?
