How is this model of Soniq? Am after one for the kids room but still need decent tech and slimmer body!

    Am looking at Sony KDL65W850C 65 @ $1998 for my Garage (ahem…mancave): https://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-home-entertainment/hd-televisio…

    • I bought this TV and it's pretty decent. I've watched Netflix on it and played PS4 and Wii U, and it handles everything fairly well. Might have to fiddle with the settings a bit in the beginning but it's been great.

  • +6

can this be combined with https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/251753
for an additional 5% off ?

If yes, it will be $284

    • +3

Can confirm it works with 5% coupon. You have to enter the coupon number at payment screen of checkout.

      • Yeah thanks guys. I bought it wicked Wed and picked up today awesome price $284.05

  • +10

Don't need it and really want it. I'll probably buy it.

  • +2

Yes the wicked wednesday code works. Makes it $284!

Bought one for $399 6 months ago (I think its the same model). I'm no TV expert but the video quality is fine for the price, the USB can play a huge range of files without fault, it works well for gaming without any noticeable lag, and if you're looking for a TV at this price range that's probably enough to drop some cash. We have a soundbar attached to it and it's a decent main TV

  • +2

Crazy cheap. I have a 32 inch Soniq I bought a few years ago for the kids games room. Was the same price as this, has been absolutely fine and has a surprisingly good picture and viewing angles.

    Manual for those interested: https://www.soniq.com/au/images/manual/E43V15C.pdf

Can someone who has one let us know if it picks up the new H264 high-def channels (9HD and 78 Horse Racing)?

    • You saved me a web search! Thanks heaps :)

  • Any wall hanging option? It is perfect bedroom size TV for me but need to hang it on the wall

    • Reviews on jbhifi say yes.

      • +2

        Thanks Poop

        • +1

It's actually a very light screen, so wall hanging it should be no issue :)

  • +1

thanks OP, I used the 5% too.

been looking at this price/size for a few weeks now.
next cheapest was a 40" Kogan for $324 delivered.

this tv is for the kitchen family area where picture quality not that important; news, cartoons etc
I can now put my G10 away for a rainy day.

  • +2

I got one in the last sale, mine had one dead pixel but I ended up living with it (you can't see a single dead pixel on this screen from say 45cm to 1m away).

The sound level is too quiet on the screen, but they have a headphone-out socket so you can add a 2.1 sound system (i.e. a cheap Logitech set).

Otherwise I'm very happy with it, and I'm going to buy another :)

    • Good to know! Thanks :)

    • How's the screen quality? and is it reliable? just wondering. 1 year warranty is way short

  • +2

Still using FHD non smart TV here Sony bought in 2009, 46 inch 2.5k

    • +21

Thanks for letting us know, I was only just wondering what you were using.

      • +2

Lol it helps making a decision? That's weird. I got no NBN nor I use 4k,and I don't care about smart features.

        • I'm kind of with Mr 2009 720p guy.

I have mainly all FHD tvs but its not like I care too much about FHD content to be honest except for consoles and PCs.

  • Thanks OP, got one. probably going to need a sound bar

  • +1

Whats the warranty on this tv ?

    • 1 year is very short. Perhaps you can file statutory warranty for 2 years

  • I hope we can use chromecast on this as it has a USB ?

    • you mean draw power from the USB? (chromecast connects to HDMI)

      • You don't need a usb port on the TV to power it.

        Just use a power supply.

      • So does that mean chromecast would not work on this TV?

        • +2

chromecast will work fine - connect via HDMI

  • Both of the HP Spectre laptops also have $200 cashback.

  • Can you use 5% off JB gift cards + the 5% off coupon?

    • where do we get 5% off on JB Gift cards ?

      • Just plain old jb cards bought using wish gift cards (5% off) at woolies. Do they still let you buy other gift cards using wish gift cards?

        • How do I do this? Do I buy a Woolworths wish card online and then use it in store to buy a jbhifi gift card?

        • @zedicuszulzoran: Yep at least at my woolies I just buy whatever gift card using the discounted wish gift cards. JB Hifi ones activated instantly - some gift cards take a day for activation.

        • @spaghettiman: i didn't see anything about the wish cards being discounted at checkout? Is there a special link or something? New to having money to play with (well its been 10 years since I did)

        • @zedicuszulzoran: Buy them off cashrewards for 5.5% discount off face value until 14 June. Usually it's 5% discount.

        • @spaghettiman: @zedicuszulzoran Just a warning, got stopped from doing so this morning at my local BigW using Wish Cards to buy JB gift cards. Tried Wollies, no problem. Just go Wollies not BigW.

    • Yes, use the coupon, then pay with cash/card/gift cards

      • Thanks, just did it~

  • Oh i have this tv. Bought it a few months ago when it was on sale at my local jb. It was great but after it starts to die off (sound softens, unable to change channels, tv no longer picking up signals) It requires a bit of TLC as days go by but still a great pick up for this price.

    • +1

Couple months why dont you return under warranty how much did you pay for it?

      • They said i need a receipt which i no longer have :( and around 350

        • Did you pay with a credit card or cash?

        • Did you buy it with credit card?
Consumer law says you don't need receipt, just proof of purchase, so if you have a credit card statement with the purchase (or even a serial number would show up in their system) you are able to return it (doesn't matter what they say).

        • @Tokeyo:

payed with cash. They said instore that i needed a proof of purchase or they cant do anything about it :(

        • +1

          @annon: *Paid with cash.

  • damn. I already bought a TCL 40inch for $350 from good guys ebay… this jb deal is better I reckon

    • Isn't TCL a better known brand in China? Yeah 3" smaller is a bit annoying.

      • I guess tcl has three year warranty but 3inches is a big difference

        • Yes, I've heard the average Chinese TCL is 3 inches smaller. Yes, in total length that IS a big difference.

        • +4

@uniqualz: If you clear the mess around the TV, it'll look bigger.

    • Same. If you haven't picked yours up, just cancel it. Rang the TGG store this morning, successfully cancelled it and saved 70 bucks.

  • Would this work as a computer screen okay?

    • Would this work as a computer screen okay?

Perhaps, if you like to sit about 6 feet away from your monitor.

It would be almost unusable as a monitor at the normal 500-600mm viewing distance.
      a) Too large, you would be swivelling your head to look at it all.
      b) Too few pixels - the image will be grainy
      c) TV colour gamut is probably not the greatest for use as a computer monitor.

  • how would it go for watching sport - NRL, AFL - requires a fast refresh rate doesn't it?

    • Refresh rate will be fine for AFL & NRL, the only times I've seen refresh rate an issue is with F1.

  • Any experience in claiming GST back (will add $1 :) ) if I were to gift it to someone overseas!? Would I need to bring it along to the TRS counter as it would have been collected as special baggage when ticketing!?

    • yes you need to get it verified at the client services counter before you proceed to check in

      • I never knew there was a counter prior to checking your bags in - always had smaller items that were checked and claimed after passing through immigration. Thanks!

        • Edit.

      • Edit.

    • Claiming GST for a 43" tv. I want to see you go into the airplane with the tv.

      • +4

        Personal in-flight entertainment?

      • You can check-in after claiming GST…

        • That is right - found this here: https://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Ente/Tour/Are-you-a-traveller

You wear or carry the goods (unless they are liquids, gels or aerosols or oversized or bulky goods which the airline require to be checked in) as hand luggage aboard the aircraft or ship as you leave Australia, or check the goods in with your luggage after they have been verified by an officer at a Client Services counter.

And also this facility I never used - even better http://trs.border.gov.au

    Guys,
How is the performance with PS4? I'm planning to buy this tv today so instant answers would be really appreciated..
    Cheers,
    Sowny

    • Got one for my son for his PS4. He's rapt. I had a look and was pretty impressed. Very good for the price.

  • Thanks OP! Was looking for something like this :)

If anyone is curious about quality and colours a Whirlpool user took some photos of the E43V15B version and it looks quite good.

  • Just bought one for parents, thank you scotty.

I hope it lasts for a few years at least. I have not bought a cheap TV before from JB hifi

  • anyone has a spare 5% code to spare please =))
    Sorry for being needy!

  • Hey guys,
I have an old Sonic TV from a few years ago and it still works fine.
However, I am looking to upgrade.
I just missed out on the 5% code.
Does anyone have a spare one to PM me?
    I would appreciate it. :).

    • Just go sign up for JB instant deals and you'll get yours

      • I did mate, but it sent me a different deal for a sound bar.

        • That's yesterday's email. Just wait and see. Might take a while to reach you.

  • +4

Just a heads up for you all (something I didn't take note of so my mistake): Take a note of the stands. I had to refund mine because the table wasn't big enough for this type of stand (unlike the TV stands that are at the centre and can fit on most compact tables).

    • Thanks for the tip. Your post prompted me to check the dimensions of my tallboy that I was going to place it on and I found it was only about 92cm wide. I think it still would have just fit, but I couldn't chance it and decided to let this one slide :(

Great deal nevertheless, especially with the 5% discount code.

    • At this price, I probably would have considered buying a piece of ply or MDF the length of the TV and putting that on the table for the TV to sit on. Maybe paint it black too.

  • Thanks op, ordered one.. Good value unit…

  • Thanks OP. Got two.

  • Anyone have any idea how long they will be at this price, want to go down on the weekend and use a gift voucher?

  • Also any suggestions on a swivel mount for this? Will be mounting this in the bedroom.

    • Not sure on swivel mounts, but you might be interested in checking out http://www.selby.com.au/.
Might have something that suits your purpose.

      • Are these recommended? Been browsing ebay and these are pricier, but probably better quality.

        • +1

I purchased a cheap $20 mount from them and quality is great. I've also never heard anything bad about them, seem to be the right balance between quality and price. There are some older forums on whirlpool discussing them that you can check out if you want.

  • anyone has a 5% discount code that they dont need :)

  • Would be any good for Xbox gaming?

  • Thanks OP. Got it last night with additional 3 yrs replacement warranty for 50 bucks…..if I happen to keep it for that long. :) Good deal for above decent TV. Let's c how it goes.

I am a newby at multimedia systems, any idea to get well priced (around $50) sound bar or speakers compatible with the TV? Thanks.

    • If you are using it as a bedroom TV or in a small games room etc the logitech Z113 2.1 speakers for $21 (see it in another deal posted here) seems a cheap good solution for you.

      • Thanks. R u talking about this deal? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/252057

        • Yes. I dont have them but my understanding 2.1 computer speakers are good enough for a bedroom. Of course if you are putting them in the living room they won't be loud enough and you will need a proper sound bar with subwoofer costs $50 or more.

  • Bought one from Glendale NSW with 5% off coupon. They had heaps of them in boxes ready to go yesterday.

I've had a refurbished Soniq 42 inch for a year or two now ($279 delivered, thanks to OzBargain) and it's been great for the price.

For those of you wanting to wall mount it, make sure your mount is 400 x 200 VESA compatible. I stupidly bought a 200 x 200 mount, doh! Have had to buy a another mount.

    • Are you mounting it on a single or double stud?
Im looking at a single stud as an option, but thinking if I need double. I'm mounting it between the door and the cuboard and need to be able to move it a little left and right to open and close some doors. Convinced the Mrs we needed the 43" with this price even though we both agreed the space was only big enough for a 32"

These are the one Im looking at.

      Single Stud
      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Plasma-LCD-LED-TV-Wall-Mount-Brac…

      Double Stud #6
      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ultra-Slim-3D-LCD-LED-TV-Wall-Bra…

      • I'm no DIY expert, but luckily this TV only weighs 8KG, so it should be forgiving. Very lightweight and skinny compared to our other TVs.

I stupidly bought and installed this one originally (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/182099761391) - expecting the TV to have 200x200 VESA screw holes. It's attached to a single stud with 3 screws and is very sturdy. To buy a bracket converting 200x200 to 200x400 would cost more than a new mount.

Last night we ordered the Single Stud swivel mount (X-Bull) from eBay as a replacement - the first link you posted! It's rated up to 50KG, so should give plenty of buffer even when extended. Should have it installed next week.

Maybe someone with more skills and knowledge can advise?
