      • Same thing happens to me. So im not sure wherethe we are eligible or not.

        • Not eligible.:(

"Existing customers can check online whether they are already on an EPL eligible plan when pre-order opens on 15 May. EPL will not be available for pre-paid mobile, home wireless broadband, and other older selected postpaid mobile and mobile broadband plans."

  • Does anyone know if there is anyway to watch on more than 1 registered device at the same time?
We've got optus at home but I'm sure my brother and I are going to watch separately at the same time.

    • Only 1 device plus Fetch simultaneously.

      http://www.optus.com.au/epl

"With access to the Premier League on all your devices (on selected plans) the action's where you want it to be. Register up to 4 devices to watch Premier League. Stream on 1 device plus simultaneously watch on Yes TV by Fetch."

      • Yep got that bit. Was just wondering if there was any way to upgrade so that you can stream on more than 1 registered device?

  • +2

That's great, managed to get onto this from my $30 postpaid. From what I can tell I can just watch these on their website? Don't need any of the Fetch TV stuff, correct ?

    • +1

Yep you're correct. App, Website or Fetch TV

  • Okay signed up successfully, whats the best way to watch on my iPad or phone?

  • Hey guys, I just used my sisters Optus postpaid mobile number and she was sent a code. What does she have to do now?

    • wait until the 1st of July I believe when you can register.

  • Anyone know if you can get a discount on the plan if you don't want/need Fetch or EPL?

Seems like quite a few extras that I wont be using.

    • Sell the access to someone else?

We couldn't find a service that matched the credentials you provided, please check the input and try again.

    :'(

    • I get the same error and I am on the $90 entertainment plan

    • Same here. Live chat popped up and they did it for me.

      • How did you get live chat to pop up?

        • No sure. Probably because I stayed on the site for several minutes trying to get it to accept my Optus account details.

  • Awesome received confirmation email:
"Your plan includes Premier League at no additional cost for the life of your plan whilst Optus maintains Premier League rights."

  • ✌️✌

  • Cool. Two weeks free then I'm off of Optus anyway!

  • can someone think of any reason why you wouldnt be able to mirror the epl website onto a tv; which means you dont need fetch tv to watch it on tv?

(as in can you effectively pick a pretty low priced mobile plan to access epl and watch it on tv?)

    • +1

Website on laptop over HDMI would work or Apple TV.

  • I have a work mobile provided by work and currently still 1 year left on my ISP provider contrac with TPG. How would I be able to watch the EPL come July?

  • Sorry, just for clarification.
You can watch it live on an android/ios app?
I'm getting confused with some comments saying its available live on Fetch only.

    • Android has been announced. Other smartphones and tablets to be announced soon. Apple TV has also been confirmed by the Optus CEO. You can register 4 devices but only watch 1 at once. Fetch is treated separately to the devices. You can watch on Fetch at the same time as a device.

I feel sorry for any older generation football fans that wont understand the finer points of running an app on your tablet or PC then using an HDMI cable to hookup your smart tv. The generation of folks that just used their remote to switch across to the correct channel.

I also cannot believe there are people that would watch an EPL game on their smartphone! Wont that be great, get the lads around for the Derby, get in some beers and we all crowd around the coffee table to watch Damo's iPhone for 90 mins!

Sad that content has come to this. I guess if Optus worked at my house I would be OK with it. Literally the single and only thing Optus sells that I have an interest in is the premier league.

Have any OzB's out there worked out the cheapest way to get EPL from Optus. Assuming somebody has absolutely no interest in any Optus products other than EPL what is the cheapest way to get EPL. Dont assume switching across existing Broadband plans or Mobile plans, just vanilla, straight out get EPL. My suspicion is that cheapest way is you could buy the $30 a month plan, get the free login then toss the SIM card in the bin. You pay the $30 a month until the contract expires.

    • The absolute cheapest is to find a friend or family member who has Optus and doesn't like the EPL. Ask them to sign up for free and give you their login details. Older generation fans should be more than capable of operating an Apple TV or could pay $5 a month for a Fetch Mini.

      • My elderly parents in law (poms) would not know what an apple TV is much less how to use one. If I went around, set it up for them then acted as their personal telephone help desk every time they tried to use it…maybe they might or else they would just not touch it again out of embarrassment at not knowing how to get it going.

I thought the Fetch Mini required you to also have another Broadband Plan with Optus and a Fetch TV subscription as well.

The option to switch across to Fetch TV as an alternative to Foxtel would be more appealing if the EPL wasnt the only drawcard. Until Fetch TV shows the walking dead and Game of Thrones I would be robbing peter to pay paul to switch across.

        • My parents - both in their 70s - can use iOS devices just fine. Apple TV is a pretty low bar - turn on, select icon of app. Unlike the Yes TV by Fetch STB which only works on the Optus broadband network, the Fetch Mini is only available to Optus mobile customers and can be used on other ISPs. No Fetch subscription required for EPL. $15 entertainment pack is optional but there's no doubt that Foxtel has much better shows.

        • @dazweeja: I have an Apple TV myself and understand how easy it is to use, maybe my in-laws have untypically low tech skills (hope wife isnt reading this!). I know from having helped them with tech stuff for years that they, and many of their friends would seriously struggle, particularly if they didnt have a friend or relative that could help them. I have been trying for ages to get them to try the Foxtel on Demand function which requires the setup of a single Ethernet cable and they are scared and intimidated by that wanting to call out and pay for a Foxtel technician for a 5 min job.

        • @2ndeffort:

That's fair enough. I think you hit the nail on the head - it's not that some people of that generation couldn't do it, it's that they're scared of breaking something, and really just scared of technology in general. They'd rather just avoid the whole thing altogether.

I worked in IT Support at a uni for a while. In my third year in the job, one of the older lecturers was working on his Mac and asked me what the difference between a file and a folder was.

  • so got a code… is there an app or website where we can test this out to see how it works?

    • gotta wait until the 1st July i think. same question i asked before and that's the answer i got.

  • Can someone help me understand this statement found at the bottom of the optus epl page:

"Where your plan includes a Premier League subscription at no additional cost, your bill will show a $15 charge and corresponding credit."

Is that saying that you'll be charged $15 more to your bill and it'll be converted to $15 credit without choice OR it's just a display on the bill and you're not actually being surcharged anything?

    • +2

Your bill will show an extra charge of $15, together with an extra credit of $15 which cancels out the $15 charge. You pay $0 extra as the end result. Just some accounting rubbish, for now.
However, the $15 credit is only available for 1 year. Afterwards you'll have to pay for the extra $15 charge unless you cancel the EPL subscription.

      • Thanks for the clarification! Just wanted to make sure I wasn't paying for credit that I don't need.

  • How would you stream epl to projector?

    • With a HDMI cable from a smartphone.

  • I wonder how many plastic eurosnobs are in this thread?

I'm a Leeds United supporter so I'm sticking with Foxtel, that way I get the Socceroos and Adelaide United matches plus all the other leagues and cup competitions on Fox too.

If I want to watch EPL I'll just catch a game on delay on one of Foxtels new team channels or via other streaming methods on the internet for free.

I'm not paying an extra $30 on top of my current bills just to watch EPL and don't want to switch over to an Optus plan just to do so, either.

With the amount of backlash this has caused, hopefully there are many others that will boycott it, leaving Optus in debt and with no choice but to sell it back.

  • +1

I'm not a soccer fan, but in the spirit of OZB, I was compelled to sign up anyway because it's free!

  • +1

I am an EPL supporter but I will not be held to ransom by Optus. Optus is an inferior company with inferior services. The reason they have to resort to these tactics is because they cannot attract customers through better products and pricing.

In todays consumer society, companies are attracting customers through better services and products and pricing. It is a real pity that Optus is reverting to jurassic-age attitude and treating the consumer public with contempt. Forcing consumers to signup to your mobile plan and internet is deplorable.

Optus Broadband/Internet will not be able to provide uninterrupted HD EPL because their service is sub-par. You will forever be in buffering mode. Foxtel was not cheap but I paid because it was a good product.

Optus…hang your head in shame. Your actions are despicable. Even though I am a huge EPL supporter, I would rather not watch it than be strong-armed into it this way. In fact, I will continue to pour my dollars into supporting Foxtel until you realise the error of your ways and apologise to the Australian Public for your deplorable actions.

FYI…I would have happily paid $200-$300 a year for a web based subscription service (similar to the NBA League Pass). That's how you win customers. Not by treating them this way.

    • -3

      Anyone call a waambulance

    • -2

seeing you are on ozbargain, I dont think you actually spend $200-$300 per year.

    • Their $30 a month SIM functions as a $360 web based subscription service. Then you can watch on the website (HDMI to TV if you choose), or Apple TV. Using your own internet. Or use the apps. And you'll also have a SIM with unlimited calls and 1.5GB data which you can use or throw in the bin.

    • You lost me at…

"Foxtel was not cheap but I paid because it was a good product."

  • Anyone have the sitelink on pc to stream ? or which phone app I need installed ?

    • Neither are available until sometime in July.

  • +1

Calling it now, in 18 months time (maybe sooner) representatives of Optus will be in the press saying that it is a national disgrace the number of people torrenting EPL games. That it is theft and that we should all as a society hang our heads in shame. There will be nothing in the article about how they held people to ransom in order to follow their favourite football team.

  • so for some of us we get it free for 1 year, others get free as long as their plan continues?..

    • yeah it seems if you are on bundled home broadband/home phone its while optus has rights.
those on sim only mobile plans only get it for one year
rang optus and they confirmed i wont pay in year 2 on my $90 plan.

They also threw in a free upgrade to the Fetch TV Mighty for free (no new contract) which is good cause its WiFi Finally!!!

  • I think that's the case. I'm on a $75 entertainment bundle and I get 1 year. Any one on a $90 entertainment bundle and getting it free for life?

  • Thanks for this signed up and got it for at least 3 years… optus going hard soon to take over Telstra… who wants a bet ?

    • lol considering optus rent the cables from telstra, im gonna say no..

  • I just called optus after trying to register my $60 mobile plan (discounted to $40) and they told me I wasn't ellegible unless I recontract for $60 per month (without the discount). They said the $60 plan is, but not my deal). FFS. Has anyone else had the same experience.

I'm pissed off at optus and foxtel…

  • Anyone else receiving a flood of repeated confirmation emails from optus in the last few hours?
I mean it's nice that they give me confirmation but 1 email is enough thanks.
    http://i.imgur.com/bC9TO9F.png

  • Got a total of 6 confirmation emails

And 2 x "You will receive free access to the 2016/17 Premier League season.

We will begin charging you $15/month from 31 July 2017, billed each month until you decide to cancel."

    • I got the exact same combination of emails too.

    • The 2016/17 season is free and they will charge you on the 31/07/17 for the 2017/18 season, unless you cancel.
