    Suggestions ?

This Worx drill is brushless. Looks like the Stanley one isn't.

In case you don't already know, brushless drills are "smarter" since the electronics control the amount of power needed for the task at hand (and hence uses less battery power in most cases). They also last longer as they don't have the carbon brushes.

If you don't have an impact driver then I'd go for the Stanley. A very handy tool to have!

btw… I personally don't have any brushless tools as I don't use them everyday and couldn't justify (to my wife) paying the extra money.

    • The works is a hammer drill and will work on masonry, the other one wont

  • Guys, can this be used for normal screw drilling? in product manual it seems like a normal drill driver with hammer option?

    https://images.worx.com/en-au/manuals/WX_DIY/au-wx372wx372.1…

    • Can be used for normal screw drilling. You can set it on the torque to hammer if so desired.

Placed an order. Was having a look at these a while ago. High quality, the brushless motor is just phenomenal. Makes the drill smaller while just as powerful/if not more powerful than their brushed cousins.

Thanks OP, picking one up at Braybrook.

  • Looks like the price has gone up to $99.

    • Yes. They'll come down again before we're much older.

  • Damn it! My egift card just arrived but price has gone up now. Duhh!

  • Why is the price increased?

  • Price has increased for me too :(

  • Did a click and collect last night, woke this morning and had not received an email for collection, so knowing how it works went down to the store and happened upon the guy in the tool dept. writing someones name on one; ran to the shelf to pick mine (2 left).. As I was sorting it out, noticed another customer head straight to the shelf…

Moral of the story, they have the "click" part sorted, still need work on the "collect" so you'll still need to help them :)

    • Yeah they are painfully slow in the picking department. I've had more then a few orders where I'd have to pick it myself.

    • yeh still waiting for my collect email ( canberra Airport), thinking of just going in tomorrow and collecting it myself from the shelf

      • I went into my local store yesterday, they had one of these drills on shelf and my order was not ready for collection. I took the drill off the shelf and went to the service desk where I asked the woman there if I could just collect the order then and there. I was told to "Come back when the order is ready!", even though she confirmed they only had that one drill left in stock. I asked to speak to the manager and he put it through in about 2 minutes, while the woman stood there talking to another employee about how she couldn't wait to go home.

Glad I did this as the manager confirmed that they're not getting any more stock, and all other orders would need to be sourced from other stores or refunded.

  • Got burned by Masters shenanigans with click and collect. Will definitely go in to the store next time.

  • Anyone have any idea what the warranty is on this model?

The Masters site says "5 year trade motor warranty", but doesn't say anything about the general warranty on the drill or the batteries.

Concerned about this, Master's situation being what it is.

Also - any practical benefit with the 20v over an 18v drill?

Even at $99, still seems to be good value.

EDIT - Finally managed to speak to someone at Masters Everton Park, who told me that the warranty is 3 years, and 1 year on the batteries.

Still got the warranty problem with Masters going out of business soon, though, as this appears to be their own brand.

    • There is probably a warranty agent listed in the instructions.

Essentially there is no difference between the 18 and 20v. Just different ways of quoting the battery voltage IIRC. The battery is normally listed as 3.6v per cell so you get 3.6v, 7.2v, 10.8v, 14.4v, 18v

A fully charged 18v will actually test as 20v with no load. Selling it as a 20v is a little dodgy though but i guess still technically accurate.

  • Check it out guys,, Still in stock from eBay store Masters Click & Collect

    • Not the same price $99

  • And you can only do click and collect from stores that do not have stock as there is no postage option??

Got my message to collect today. All good. Thanks OP.

finally gave up waiting and had time to visit the store (canberra), 3 left in stock in the middle of the store on the clearance table, was able to collect it myself, 3 days and no one had time to collect my order… walked past a worker just standing in the middle of the aisle staring at the ground… at least i got it got it for $79.20

  • In case anyone missed this and really needs one Aldi has on on sale on the 25th, 89 bucks and only one battery and probably not brush less but is a bit more powerful at 24v and only 1hr fast charge. Probably not worth posting but might be useful to someone who needs one and can't waste time lurking

    • That doesn't sound like much of a deal.

If it isnt brushless and it is a generic brand you might as well get this: https://www.masters.com.au/product/100808605/wesco-18v-cordl…

      • That's not a hammer drill, so useless for drilling into masonry. If someone had to do something this weekend it might be worth it.

To be honest, as I had mentioned earlier in another post, when the average drill gets used for 30 seconds or so a year I don't see why you can't take the extra minute to run a cable, and save the time worrying about batteries, chargers, lack of power, and pay as low as 15 bucks for an xu1 or a 909, but someone might be drilling something on the harbour bridge, or a shed on their farm that doesn't have power or something I guess
