Seagate 500GB Wireless Portable Hard Drive - Green Only - Officeworks $45

850

After seeing this post I decided to go to my local Office Works to seek a price match. They declined but the lady at the counter scanned a Green one and it came up at $45. She then scanned all other colours and they were full price.

I could not locate Green on the Office Works website so cannot link to it but have included a pic of the product and my receipt. This is no Ex Demo and was in sealed retail packaging. Stock of these lines are kept behind the counter in a security cupboard and not on display.

If this is of interest I suggest you call first to see if Green is in stock locally.

    OP,
was there anymore Green units at Caroline springs?

    • +2

      No stock in Caroline Springs

Just spoke to the guy and he looked everywhere while I was on hold. But couldn't find one

      • thanks

  • how can they decline a price match?

    • -3

They can if they think the price is below cost.

Because it's not direct price reduction, you use 20% off ebay coupon code to get that speacial price. And officeworks policy doesn't cover that

  • Have been looking at one of these. Thanks.

    • +9

You're going to be looking a lot longer as there is no stock :P

      • Thanks for the update. Is this everywhere ?

        • The item isn't on the website so you will have to call around and see if anyone does have stock. Considering it's not available online chances are slim but good luck!

    Only "in store"

    • +1

If the green model doesn't even come up online, how can it be shown "in store"?

    How useful are these?
Do they do the same thing as plugging a hhd into the router?

OK.. I got one in a previous sale for $59 or something from OW. It actually isnt a bad unit but a bit slow. Can be used in one of 3 modes:

    1) Straight USB 2.0 disk - plug a MicroUSB cable into your computer and into the disk as per normal. This mode is the quickest of the three, but is only obviously available to the USB port in which it is plugged in. Having said that, it is still "slow" compared to USB 3.0 disks - about 30-40MB/sec sustained on large files.

    2) AP mode - The device will become a wireless AP that will allow multiple PCs and devices to attach to it and access it via SMB (Microsoft file sharing) or through http and a dedicated App. The AP can be either stand-alone, or it can be uplinked to another router through this method as well. Slowest mode and does only about 5-6MB/sec sustained.

    3) Member mode - Becomes a member device on an existing wireless network. PCs can access it on the same wireless network segment to read/write to it. Slightly faster than the AP mode to be about 8-12MB/sec depending on your wireless speed.

Note: all modes are mutually exclusive. Can only be one at a time.

It has its own internal battery that lasts for about half a day (10-12 hours) but mileage varies depending on your use. Can be charged via the USB cable to a 5V, 1A circuit. A mobile app for iOS and Android is available to access the content within and able to automatically backup your device to it.

Dont expect a small unit BTW - the surface area is slightly smaller than that of an old CD case and about 2.5x as thick.

Found one in the store, scan price not available, store manager scanned the blue one instead and said $95 and he refused to mark it down and want me to pay same price as the blue. Showed him the receipt uploaded still not matching. So no deal for me :(

  • No green ones at Morayfield 4506. Every other colour….. Sad face.
