      It's 30mm drive on ear.

  • Any chance you could upload the "Special Buy" part of the catalogue?

    • I only took some pics when at a friends place that had the catalogs seeing as I may not get them until maybe wed hopefully sorry.

      • +1

        Aww, thanks anyways.

  • Anyone bought the noise cancelling headphones before? It's a tempting price.

    • I've heard their over NC headphones are good. I personally dont think on ear cut it.

  • How's this tv?

  • +1

Got the rest of the catalogue?

    • Only the pics that havnt come out sorry

  • Would this TV be useful as a PC monitor?

    • +2

65 inches…sure, how big is you desk and do you like looking up one metre to the top of the screen?

    • +1

No, there is significant input lag.

  • Only 1 year warranty on TV !!!

    No thanks.

I missed a deal on Hisense 65" UHD TV from TGG with 3 years standard warranty during their 20% off ebay promotion. It was around $1300.

    • Good point. There's been a quite a few faulty Bauhns do the rounds on Gumtree.

  • keep in mind that 'Smart TV' thingy on Bauhn is absolute crap. I am using it with Sony 4k DVD player (comes with netflix, plus lots of apps), and that does a trick. Upscale network stream, dvd etc perfectly to 4k

  • Just returned the 58" back yesterday as there was a significant lag in audio vs video. It's not a premium product. You get what you pay. The smart tv on it is just ordinary.

    • How did you find the quality of the picture?

I'll probably be running everything via a mini pc or nvidia shield anyway so I can delay the video or audio as needed.

The special in a review someone posted above for the 65" said the panel was 120Hz native, what refresh rate did your 58" run 4k content at? No use in buying a new TV if they are being dodgy with the refresh rate and it is really only 30Hz.

      • Sorry mate. Didn't check out the h and neither didi run 4k content. I also did update the firmware first before running the free to air channels

    • Did you try updating the firmware first? It's a known issue with the Bauhn TVs and the firmware update fixes the sync issue from the DTV receiver.

  • Does anyone reckon one of these would be worth a go if I'm only using it as a TV with HTPC. I never use Smart functions and don't watch free to air and have a Xbox if I need to see something specific live. The picture quality and input lag is my biggest worry. Can anyone thats been using one comment?

    • It has excellent picture quality and excels as an HTPC panel. It's just not good for gaming due to the input lag being pretty bad. I measured it to around ~150ms with a 1080p signal and ~60ms when displaying 4K.

I've been getting a lot of mileage out of mine since https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/209684

      • Hmmmm I guess I will probably use it from time to time for gaming so if that's a no go I suppose thats something to consider. Any movie or Tv jutter in 4k or 1080p playback? How the motionflow and interpolation?

        • +6

The input lag is a no go for console gaming. It's acceptable for PC gaming at 4k BUT you will need a ridiculous setup to power 4k 60hz. I got Batman Arkham Asylum working at 4K 60hz and that was awesome, but my 970 can't really power much else at 4k.

I've had no luck through many tries to get my Nvidia scaling settings to work the way they should - that is output a 4K signal but render in 1080p. That way I could have the options turned up high and the lower input lag, but alas no luck there after multiple tries. It's possibly because the EDID information that the 65" TV puts out is incorrect stating 1080p as it's native resolution.

There's cables/boxes out there which upscale a 1080p signal to 4k but the ones at a decent price point can only go 1080p60hz to 4k30z. I do think that in time we will see cheap upscalers that will be able to do 4k60hz.

No judder/motion stepping at all. The PQ is fantastic when displaying from a good source. The motion interpolation is bad, but I've always had a problem with motion interpolation as I work in the media creation field and am sensitive to all reasons why it's a horrible idea regardless of who implemented it.

The one flaw I have is random frame dropouts. Once in about ~45 minutes there will be a frame displayed that looks like a corrupted frame of video. Although this isn't in the media you are watching, it's the scaler corrupting a frame. The scaler is a piece of shit in this TV, super slow and a limited set of options. It takes about a minute from the moment you turn the TV on to the moment you can change an input source or a TV channel.

I wrote a lot about the picture quality and quirks in the other listing and also on the whirlpool forums. A real lot - http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2446216

  • Can anyone tell me what the refresh rate is on this TV. There's no mention of it. The previous model that was sold in August last year stated 120hz when using it as a TV. I'm not interested in gaming although I'm interested in buying a TV that doesn't have ghosting when watching sport in HD. The website doesn't say anything.

    • +1

It's a good question - as you mention the website doesn't state the refresh rate, and neither does the manual. In fact the specifications listed in the manual for the "0716" model are a bit lacking compared to the previous "815" model.

      Comparison of selected specs below:

      ATVS65-815 vs ATVS65-0716

      Resolution: 3840 x 2160 vs 3840 x 2160
Panel Native Refresh Rate: 120Hz vs (not given)
      Luminance/Brightness: 270 cd/m2 vs 220 cd/m2
      Contrast Ratio: 4000:1 vs 3500:1
Viewing Angle: H:176 / V:176 vs (not given)
      HDMI Version: 2.0 vs 2.0
HDCP version: (not given) vs 2.2
      Power consumption: <230W / <200W

Given the differences here it's pretty clear to me it is a different panel. The screen caps of the OSD in each model look significantly different also, so I'm guessing the OS is different also. Is it better or worse overall than the previous model? Who knows!

      • It's up to 120hz at 1080p and up to 60hz at 4K.

        • Thanks c0balt - that's what I would have assumed, but I wonder why chose not to include these details in the spec list in the manual.

          @Jad:

No worries. I should probably elaborate a little seeing as I'm one of the few people who have this TV and know a little about the workings. For DTV - the TV will pick up 50i - convert to 25p in the scaler and display that. You can use motion interpolation to bring it up to what I would guess is 120hz (3 levels of stepping) - but the motion interpolation is very average and for my tastes I always leave it off. The steps are off-low-medium-high with no indication as to how many interpolation frames are displayed. The quality of the scaler is poor in this TV. You will get a much better FTA DTV experience using an external receiver.

For PC use you can select 120hz and use a computer to do the motion interpolation for you (https://www.svp-team.com/wiki/Main_Page). It's much, much better this way. Although I haven't used it with this particular TV - there's no reason it can't be used as the TV will report as a 120hz RGB monitor to a PC at 1080p. I personally have no use for anything over 60hz due to only having a single 970 GPU, so I didn't try it out besides a proof on concept - and it worked at that but I think I remember the picture a bit softer at 120hz than 60hz.

4K is different. It will only be recognised as a 4:2:0 capable TV (not an RGB monitor) and it took me a while to get 60hz working as it would only display 29, 25 and 24hz originally. I have a feeling that the TV reports the EDID information incorrectly. It's something I always meant to try was over writing the EDID information to better reflect what the panel is capable of out of the box, rather than screw around with pixel timings in the advanced resolution settings to get 60hz displayed.

    • You are mixing up refresh rate with response time.

I wrote about it in depth here for a better understanding. It's about the 4th reply to the first comment.

  • Thanks Jad.

Looking at the comparisons you've made and the fact that Bauhn haven't responded to my email, I can only assume this is a different TV. I'm not going to bother trying it out. I would have thought Aldi would try to improve their products with every new generation, but it looks like they are not. Maybe decided to compromise the spec's in order to keep the same price as last year. I have noticed that Hisense are also no longer specifying the refresh rate on their new ULED TV's.

    • Bauhn haven't responded to my email

I got a response but didn't fare much better! After asking Tempo about some details which were not included in the manual, they simply replied with an attachment of said manual….

  • I've read a lot of mixed reviews, I still have a 6+ year old Samsung 50" plasma (ps50b650s1f). I basically use it for free to air ABC Kids and movies/shows through a raspberry Pi.

Would anyone care to help by offering how they think it would compare to replace the above tv for my purpose ? Keen to know opinions as I don't know much about the comparisons.

  • Planned to line up at ALDI this morning for the 65" but luckily JBHIFI have their SONIQ 65" on sale for under $1k.

    • You really need to look at them before you make a call, because the Soniq IMO has below standard PQ, and the Bauhn 65" has almost top tier PQ (when setup right). Soniq have used some decent panels, unfortunately the 65" UHD with 3d that I looked at was probably the worst quality PQ I've seen a Soniq have (given the technology available at the time).

The contrast ratio and response time stuck with me as being very sub standard, I couldn't even judge the sharpness because of how dull and flat the picture looked. It's possible however that the TV was set that way to make the more expensive brands look better with perhaps a higher profit margin.

JB should have them on display (they do at a few places around Melbourne) and when I had a look last year they look very average verging on bad. It's possible that it's a different model to the one I looked at, but the Soniq 65" I looked at last year when considering the Bauhn 65" during that crazy sale made me set on not getting the Soniq.
It's night and day the picture quality between them.

      • This soniq is not the 3D version. I am attracted to the 3 years warranty vs 1 year. I am happy with the picture quality after 2 days of use.
