  • TECH499 results in $4.99/year. It's 10% more but not bad for annually.

but the TECH499 only applies to 1 year domain purchase. If you choose 2 or more years, you get an error saying "Coupon doesn't apply to any of the products in the cart." And I'm guessing there may not be specials in a years time to renew at that rate.

What part of this in the subject line is NOT clear?

      "with Newsletter Subscription 10% Code"

I think dyl was just offering an alternative coupon code, in case anyone preferred to only pay for 1 year. It's a legit (and potentially useful) comment. Don't be so harsh!

      • use coupon directly on domains.get.tech rather than other site. Results in $4.99/year. Not sure if it renews at same rate or not. OPs method results in $49.99/10year - 10% (news letter sub), which is cheaper though required a 10 year plan rather than year-to-year.

Hope this clears things up a little, my apologies.

according to crazydomains relax.tech is available for ~$9k

    • +1

      broden.tech is available.

      • excellent, I've got a PS3 lying around here somewhere!

I tried to purchase, however I go to checkout before I can enter my domain name?

If you have registered successfully, please let me know how you specify your domain name.

    • From the stacksocial page:

Note: Use the coupon code to redeem and get your domain on www.get.tech

  • The $50/yr renewal price is a bit of a kick in the nuts, but who knows where they'll be in 10 years time

    • -4

You still retain your domain though if you have paid for it

      • I guess paying in advance means if you want to shift registrars you'll forfeit the remainder of $61, but you can shift anytime.

.tech at namecheap is US 0.88 with whois privacy.
For 10 years it is a good deal. These domain prices will settle between $10-$20 per year

$650 like most RRP is bogus, real value about $150

    • -2

Check the 10 year registration fee , it's around $500 USD

Annual renewal after first year is over $50 USD.

      • Why are you getting negged? Helpful comments.

  • -2

renewing for 10 years is just silly at this stage there are at least 20 registrars offering renewals at under $50 and several at $30, and I bet in a year there will be many many more.

    • -1

      So based in your logic $30 X 10 = $300 for 10 years

Or register for 10 years for the price of 2 With this deal

Do the maths before you comment

i said it was a good deal over 10 years, i am just saying it is a new TLD, prices will drop dramatically, and if you only want to register for 1 year there are much better options out there.

Thanks EC, picked up two domains for ten years.

    • -1

You are welcome. Picked up a few too .

  • I may be wrong but isnt it possible for these guys to cancel your lease of the domain if your domain ends up becoming popular and is worth a fair bit all of a sudden. If not cancel, at least block renewal of your domain unless you pay a very high price? How does one permanently buy a domain for a fixed price instead of leasing it?

Also for the popular domains, take relax.tech as mentioned above, selling for 9k. Does this mean someone has bought it and is reselling it to you for that price?

    • -1

once you register it, they cant take it away.

No, of course not. You OWN the domain.

How does one permanently buy a domain for a fixed price instead of leasing it?

You own it 100% for the period that you pay in advance. Nobody can take a domain away… even if you forget to renew there is a grace period of about a month before you lose it.

No, it means that the TLD (domain creator) has deemed it to be a Premium domain, so they can ask a high price for it.

      • Thanks very much for that detailed response. Wasn't aware of these policies. I guess I was just being too paranoid.

  • +1

Thanks guys. Scored something very impressive which really lends itself to subdomains.

Did it via Paypal, let them do the conversion and it was billed USD $45 >> AUD $62.86

Ordered, Code applied, New Acct setup, Activated, DNS… DONE!

  • Potential for lots of different TLDs to popup shortly given the large number of TLD applications that were received. Apparently it costs 185K to request for a new TLD plus annual $25k if they have more than 50K SLDs.

  • Domain privacy is included, so it's not a bad deal.
    Cheers EC.

    • -2

      for the whole 10 years?

      • I'm not sure, but it seems to imply so….
I guess I'll find out in a year or two.

    • Domain privacy is included, so it's not a bad deal.

EDIT: Found the privacy setting and it appears to be included for the ten years! Thanks!
